College football coach suspended for saying referee "raped us"

U Mass football coach made comments that were almost equal to actual rape, so he was suspended for a game and forced to undergo a struggle session that showed he was properly re-educated.

Quote:Quote:

Massachusetts suspended football coach Mark Whipple for one game Sunday after he said one of his players had been “raped” while complaining about the officiating Saturday in a loss to Ohio.

Athletic director Ryan Bamford announced the suspension of Whipple without pay for the Minutemen’s home game against South Florida on Saturday, and all team activities leading up to it. Defensive coordinator Ed Pinkham will serve as acting head coach.

“On behalf of our department, I deeply apologize for the comments made by head coach Mark Whipple on Saturday after our game at Ohio,” Bamford said in a statement. “His reference to rape was highly inappropriate, insensitive and inexcusable under any circumstance. Coach Whipple’s comments don’t reflect the values of this institution, our athletics department or football program. Mark is disappointed in himself and understands his serious error in judgment.”

Whipple is in the fifth year of his second stint as UMass coach. He has also been a longtime NFL assistant coach. He is 14-40 with UMass since 2014, but from 1998 to 2003, he led the Minutemen to five winning seasons, including a Division I-AA national title. UMass now plays at the highest level of Division I, the Football Bowl Subdivision.

“I am deeply sorry for the word I used on Saturday to describe a play in our game,” Whipple said in a statement. “It is unacceptable to make use of the word ‘rape’ in the way I did and I am very sorry for doing so. It represents a lack of responsibility on my part as the leader of this program and a member of this university’s community, and I am disappointed with myself that I made this comparison when commenting after our game.”

UMass lost 58-42 at Ohio in Athens. Whipple called the officiating the worst he had experienced in his long career and was asked about a possible pass interference call against one of UMass’ receivers that did not draw a penalty from the Mid-American Conference officiating crew.

“We had a chance there with 16 down and they rape us, and he picks up the flag,” the 61-year-old Whipple told reporters.

He later used the word “mugged” to describe what happened to his player.

Whipple’s contract runs through the 2020 season and pays him $500,000 this year.

This is obviously bullshit but I think I'm more pissed about the fact that a college football coach is pulling in half a mil a year.

Honestly that's pocket change for a head coach in the college football world. Look up how much coaches at bigger programs like Alabama, Michigan, Texas, Ohio State, etc. get paid. As much as CEOs at some companies.

Heck, even their assistant coaches make around a million each at those places.

College Football is big business man, when you don't pay your players anything you've got plenty of money to pay the coaches! Hell some coaches are making 10 mil+ a year.

Even some assistant coaches are making 2 or 3 mil a year! These football programs are like Fortune 500 companies now, so of course the insufferable PC culture of high level corporations is going to creep into the locker room as well.

No need to use logic to say how absurd this is, as logic does not play a role in anything anymore when it comes to the college campus. In a time where schools out do each other to be crowned PCU, it does not surprise me that an athletic director from UMass suspended their head coach for off the cuff remarks like this. I am waiting to hear that UMass is now on lockdown because of the obvious riots that will ensue from this.

Indeed, the highest paid person at most major universities is the head coach of the football team.

Good use of vocabulary there Roosh. A "Struggle Session" is the process of intense public hazing and humiliation of a political dissident in Communist china, that precedes his internment in a reeducatinon camp, from which he would be lucky to return alive.

For $500,000 a year to do what is presumably a life long dream job, he did not hesitate to apologize and I suspect convinced himself quickly that what he said truly was wrong.

What options does he have? Show some dignity and quit? Ha! Fat chance. His mansion house mortgage, private schooled kids' tuition, etc make that out of the question. $500k per for a Multi year contract is an insane amount of money for what he does.

Well rape hysteria in the news at the moment.

Back in 1994 a BBC pundit Alan Hansen apologised for saying of Soccer World Cup USA match highlights "the defender wants shooting for that." He made the public apology because the Colombian defender Andres Escobar (whose own goal had led to Colombia's early exit from the tournament) had been shot by somebody who had allegedly said "Thanks for the own goal' after killing him. That had happened just a week before.

Pretty sure Alan Hansen said that plenty of times after that but I bet he always felt a little self conscious when he did.

Ford, Swetenick(?) Ramirez, Rape! Rape ! Rape! Gang Rape! "The official out there raped him" or words to that effect..
"How can you say rape??" etc. etc.

It's not the first time people have had to apologise for their choice of words even pre feminist-ReEEEEEEeeee!!! but I agree about the silliness and the cultural marxist moment that we are living in.

Sad to see him trivialize rape like that. One day I hope that he's in a relationship but wants to bang other people, so decides to drink to much and flirt/lead them on anyways, then suggest they go to their room and get naked. Then realizing that to avoid looking bad the only option he has is to say he was raped (extra-judicially because courts are scary and complicated) has to make the difficult choice to do so. Surprised they didn't sentence him to carry a mattress around for the rest of the season.

In many states, the college football/basketball coach is the highest-earning public employee.

Would they have suspended him if he had said "They murdered us". Does that mean murder is OK?

I have used the term "Prison Rape" in the past. Does that mean that not only am I misogynist in using the term rape, but also homophobic in that the term denotes inmate on inmate sexual assault?

A. Mark Whipple sucks as a coach. He's awful. Really bad. They'd have been better off firing him.

B. Rape is such a touchy word nowadays. I suggest we replace it with 'snuggle struggle' to avoid triggering snowflakes.

Thank me later!

Anyone else remember Howard Cosell's little monkey comment from 1983?

This is where it all started.

Nothing is metaphorical. Nothing is idiomatic. There is no such thing as a figure of speech.

It is always literal.

And always motivated by pure personal badness.

Cosell Wikipedia Entry

Quote:Quote:

On September 5, 1983, Cosell announced a Monday night game between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys. During the broadcast, Cosell stated in reference to Redskins wide receiver Alvin Garrett after his sixth reception of the evening, that Washington Coach Joe Gibbs "wanted that kid, and that little monkey gets loose doesn't he". The comment brought immediate criticism for being racist, specifically by then-president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference the Rev. Joseph Lowery, who demanded Cosell apologize. Cosell declined, stating first that he did not recall making the statement and then that it was an appellation he had previously used for athletes of all races and a term of endearment he employed with his grandchildren. Furthermore, Cosell proclaimed that his civil rights stands for the rights of black athletes spoke for themselves.

Nothing new under the sun.

Except he didn't get fired.

Whipple should be thankful he has any job in football, he sucks. But that is why the left is making a case out of him, because he is in a weak position.

Although i've lived abroad, i never thought of retiring outside the U.S. But now, i feel i almost have to go to Latin America. Costa Rica, Panama, Puerto Rico. Close enough to the US I can come back for healthcare or a 1st world vacation. But far, far away from the Orwellian thought-crime nightmare that is unfolding. My fear is that, in 10-12 years when i am ready to do this, LatAm will also be a feminist gulag.
