Bang Colombia is now out

Here are my comments from reading Bang Colombia, as someone who spends many months per year living in the country.

I'll split this up into two posts. First is about logistics, details and improving the Spanish phrases for better communication.

The second post will be further ideas for building the right emotional state. Also insights about the culture and what makes the women tick.

The book talks about gringo hordes in Medellin. They're really only concentrated in 10% of the city. The rest of Medellin, you'd hardly ever see one. It's true that there are lots of hostels in Medellin with lots of travelers. They spend most of their waking hours drinking beer on the patio and chatting about travel, doing drugs in the room and watching DVD's around the hostel.

To never see a gringo in Medellin, just do the following:
Avoid Blue and Babylon at any time
Avoid Eslabon Prendido on a Tuesday and Bendito Seas on a Thursday
Stay away from Oviedo mall, Parque Lleras and the walk downhill to the Poblado metro station.

I really enjoyed Roosh's Medellin Diaries. I did shake my head while reading it because the venues he was initially going to were all heavily on the backpacker circuit. There are plenty of other options in the city.

On the choice between Bogota vs Medellin and Cali. Choose Bogota if you like the pace of big cities. Choose Medellin or Cali if you like something more provincial. Even the area in the city you decide to stay in will affect how you feel about the place. Pick to suit your style.

Venues in Cali. Don't bother with Avenida Sexta. It's decades out of fashion and is one of the least interesting parts of the city. Malls are an option for early evening. They have bar zones. Casual people traffic is much better than what you'd find along La Sexta.

Spanish phrases

"Quieres tomar algo otra vez?" means Do you want to drink something again (right now)?

Instead, use
"Quieres tomar algo en otro momento?" or
"Quieres tomar algo en otra ocasion?"

"Tienda de animales" is not widely used in Colombia.

Use "tienda de mascotas", which is the name for a pet shop.

"...una pregunta de español" is confusing

Use "...una pregunta sobre el español"

The line about music "es popular por aqui?". To Colombians, the word popular means downmarket or ghetto. They would interpret that question as asking whether this venue is ghetto.

Use "es muy escuchada aqui?"

Good additions, looking forward to part II.

Night game and opening groups: You can open groups by dancing one song with a girl in the group. It's a pretty standard way to get to know new people. Latin music is usually designed for dancing as a couple. Many girls will welcome the invitation. They'd prefer dancing instead of sitting around and watching the action.

When you've been dancing with only one target, a reggaeton song is a chance to get the rest of her group dancing all together in a circle. Her uglier friends getting less attention will appreciate the chance to dance a bit. They'll be happy you thought to include them. This gels you better in the group, raises your value and reduces cockblock issues later in the night.

Asking them to pose for photos will raise the energy level as you're engaging a new group. Colombianas love photos!

Observe what a Colombian guy does when he reaches out to meet a guy at another table. More often than not, he just offers up a shot of liquor from the bottle to the other guy in a friendly way.

Getting her to your place: Roosh suggests a line "Would you like to come back to my place for a drink?" I would make this more specific. Earlier in the night, ask her what she most enjoys drinking. When the time comes to invite her to your place, you now know exactly how to frame it.

Your invite her to drink a cocktail you make with her favorite booze, drink tequila shots, a bottle of champagne... Whatever you established ahead of time that she likes.

Listening to music or watching a film is another good pretext. Remember that Colombian homes always have the TV in the bedroom. Now when you begin watching the movie, you're already lying down beside her in bed.

If it turns out your apartment has an extra TV in the living room, rearrange things ahead of time. You want it to be so that the only available DVD or home theatre is set up in the bedroom.

Music: Listen to music in the bedroom, too. No matter if the stereo system is in the living room, say you want to listen to live concert DVDs. You can buy those in the street beforehand for a couple of bucks each. Get Aventura, a salsa and merengue mix or whatever.

Music is a great way to build emotional state.

Roosh talks about how your date breaks off the conversation to sing along with her favorite song until it's finished. That is right on the money.

Colombians pay a lot of attention to lyrics and the feeling behind the song. They like to feel the emotions that it stirs up.

Obviously, this is very useful if you want to build sexual tension. Doubly useful for guys who don't speak Spanish so well but do know the right songs to play. You're leaning back sipping on a whisky and meanwhile Marc Anthony is doing all the work getting your girl warmed up.

Colombians are not always adventurous when it comes to new styles. You may be tempted to DHV by introducing her to some music you know well. That may work, but it's probably easier to ask her to explain a Latin song to you. What's the message of the song etc.

As Oscar Wilde said: "There are only two kinds of people who are really fascinating - people who know absolutely everything, and people who know absolutely nothing." So be the guy who knows absolutely nothing about this song or that style and get her to walk you through it.

Money and being congruent: Roosh's advice is not to pay for a taxi, because you want her to feel invested in you by paying it herself. I strongly disagree with that. She has already invested plenty by getting dressed up for the occasion, making time in her schedule and dealing with the bus or metro to get wherever you're meeting.

Colombian women are very plugged into the nuances of clothes and outfits and the right level of sexiness. If you suggest she can stay over and take the bus home in the morning, that shows a lack of understanding of her situation. There's no way she wants to take the bus home in the morning in last night's clothes. She probably chose a moderately sexy look for when she comes over to fuck you for the first time, and now you want to send her back on the bus in those clothes at 8 o'clock in the morning. Even if her outfit is not much different from what a regular Colombiana gets around in during the daytime, she will feel everyone judging her for it.

Beside that, she simply may not have the disposable income to pay for a taxi. There could be reasons involved that have nothing to do with how she feels about you. For example, Colombians borrow the money to buy an item and pay it back over two or three monthly installments. Suppose she had all her disposable income committed a month ago due to something she bought before she met you. Now you just put her in an impossible situation and for no good reason.

When she wants to rationalize it, she'll decide it's your fault for not having a car or motorcycle. If you can't offer to drive her around yourself, I recommend just paying for the taxi and don't guilt her about it.

A lot of gringos screw up by not being congruent with money. They invite the girl to hang out at their expensive apartment and then refuse any money for a taxi. Drink only expensive liquor but are stingy with sharing it. Go out to an expensive bar and dress like a hobo.

Try to calibrate your behaviors consistent with a guy who's generous because he likes to enjoy himself with friends. On the other hand, don't be a complete pushover.

You'll be paying her way for any activity that you invite her to. You'll find if she likes and respects you, she'll take the initiative to gift you things. Maybe in ways that don't cost much money. That might be inviting you to lunch at her family's place, paying for the movie ticket on discount night, a token gift or whatever.

Nice insights Tigre. Paying an insignificant 5 dollars for her taxi ride back home is a no brainer in Colombia. In your 30 and 40s in Colombia, being a bit generous with the ladies, but not a pushover, is what it is all about.

Bang Colombia is now out

Finished this book on my commute to/from work in two days.

It's generally a good overview about the challenges and hurdles of gaming in Colombia. I've been to all of the cities Roosh mentioned in his guide (Bogota, Cali, Medellin). Medellin was also my favorite in the bunch.

You really do need some time to break down Colombia. It's also a place where speaking at least conversational Spanish is a huge plus since most girls don't speak English at all.

Colombian girls are also more "traditional" in some ways than American girls. They are big on you, as a gringo, taking them out to dinner and treating them to a good time.

The best part about Colombia IMO is the friendliness of the people, especially in the smaller second and third tier cities. They are actually more preferable than the "Big 3" Roosh pointed out, but your Spanish needs to be decent. (Armenia, Manizales, Barranquila, etc).

It would have been nice to see Roosh visit the Carib Coast. There are some good looking girls in and around Cartagena and up towards Barranquila and Santa Marta.

Also, there was a mistake in Roosh's initial description about the women in Cali. He said that their darker features are a result of their stronger percentage of "African-American" ancestry, implying they are descended from African-Americans from the United States, which is obviously incorrect. The term "African" would have been the right choice.

What Roosh really gets right is the tools you need to have to game in Colombia (Day/Night/Internet). All these pillars deserve their proper attention.

All in all, it's a good book, but unless you're going to spend a long time in Colombia, I wouldn't go there to get laid (excluding p4p).

Some stuff yes like the description of traits such as Paisas being the flakiest women on the plant, other stuff may be out of date like night life places, Parque Lleras for example is much different than it was back when Roosh was there.
