Another old American masculine icon is gone. Burt Reynolds, one of Hollywood’s most popular leading men during the ’70s and early ’80s in such films as “Deliverance,” “Smokey and the Bandit, “The Longest Yard” and “Semi-Tough,” has died. His rep confirmed that he died Thursday in Jupiter, Fla. He was 82.
So, this makes Daryl Dragon, the 'Captain' from 'Captain and Tennille' the only American 'macho' still alive?

Damn. This one hurts. First movie I saw him in was 'The Longest Yard' -- I watched it with my grandfather as a boy.

RIP to an icon.

RIP Burt.

One of my favorite characters out there.

I have been watching the price of one of my dream cars, the 1970 Trans Am, go up in value over the past decade. Now, I fear, there will be a run on these beauties.

One thing I found interesting about Burt was that he refused to watch Boogie Nights, arguably his best role.

I suggest watching The Last Movie Star which may have been his last role, filmed last year if I understand correctly. It's loosely based on his own life.

I remember seeing Lee Corso on ESPN College Gameday discussing his friendship with Reynolds when they played together on Florida State's football lteam. Corso said, "With his looks and my car we had a great time."

Story time:

When I was a youngster i went to college in st. Louis mo.

Being from an island, I took as many opportunities as possible or to drive around with friends and see as much as possible. One weekend, a friend and I decided to drive to Memphis. On the way down i-55 we saw a sign that a car dealership in Dexter Mo was the home of the Chicken Pit car from Stroker Ace. We got off the highway and went to find it. We took tons of pictures. Sat inside the car, put on hats, etc.

On the way back, we found a bar in Poplar Bluff Mo called Las Margaritas. We were underage, and they didn't ask, so we got wasted. The bartenders wouldn't let us drive, and sent us to a shoddy motel. We wound up staying all weekend, and not going to Memphis.

Now this is not a very interesting story. However, Jim Nabors, a gay, but also in stroker ace, became a local celebrity, and real estate baron here in Hawaii later in life. He would always be at events and parties. I went up and introduced myself one day while I was in the Navy. I told him how I had seen the Stroker Ace car. He thought it was hilarious. Maybe he wanted to have sex with me.

Jim Majors whipped out his old Motorola flip phone and called up Burt Reynolds. Jim Majors put me on the phone with Burt Reynolds! He had a goofy voice and said just some basic nonsense like "alright buddy you keep on livin" or something like that.

Story concluded. RIP Burt Reynolds.

Aloha!

To many women, his masculinity was intoxicating. Now masculinity is toxic.

RIP Burt.

Kona, we are trying to mourn the passing of Burt Reynolds here.

Do not start a sentence with "Jim Nabors whipped out . . ." in this thread please. (And misspell Nabors to confuse us.)

"The Longest Yard" was one of the very first movies I'd seen Burt Reynolds as a kid growing up in the early 1970's.

I have heard rumors that he wrote a tell-all biography that dishes out a lot of dirt about Hollywood. It was to be released after his death.

No idea if the above is actually true. I guess we will all find out soon.
