Boston police captain's son faces 20 years for school shooting terror plot

The son pleaded guilty back in May, why is this just making headlines now?

A Boston police captain's son faces 20 years in prison for plotting an attack on a college to support the Islamic State group.

Alexander Ciccolo is expected to be sentenced Wednesday in Springfield's federal court.

Ciccolo agreed to serve 20 years behind bars when he pleaded guilty to terrorism charges in May, a month before he was scheduled to go to trial.

Prosecutors say Ciccolo plotted to use assault rifles and explosives to carry out his attack at an unidentified school.

They say Boston police Capt. Robert Ciccolo's decision to alert the FBI about his son "likely saved the lives of numerous innocent people."

Alexander Ciccolo's lawyers say Ciccolo had a troubled childhood and struggled with substance abuse issues. His lawyers say Ciccolo had no real ability to carry out his plans.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

It's made headlines several times already. Was kind of a dick move by the FBI since the father turned him in. They should have just put him in a nut house, not orchestrated an elaborate school assault with explosives, assault rifles and a 20 year sentence. They're going to get a lot less active cooperation from family members if they keep doing this.

Given the other stuff that was going on in Mass, I assume they used him to justify protecting the sketchy informers they've been using in other cases.

< Agree - sounds fishy. His dad had no other recourse than to call the fucking FBI? Should have dealt with it internally, used some connections and forcibly sent him somewhere far away instead of sending him to jail for 20 years.

Like Simeon says I would hope a police officer would be hip enough to law enforcement tactics that he would know problems should be dealt with "in house" whenever possible.
