Transferwise's new 'Borderless' Account - my thoughts
Interesting thread. I used transferwise a few months ago to transfer 100 bucks. It worked well.
Did any of you use it to transfer big amounts? Like 10 or 20k?
Never done it and I am a bit nervous.

I live in Europe but have some minor income and some minor expenses in USD each month. Would this solution make sense for me, or better just to set up a U. S. bank account?

The max I have sent from a personal account was $40k and that was from Indonesia to Uk and no questions asked. My dad has had a few questions sending into Indonesia but after saying it was for medical expenses no follow up required.
Akwesi if you set the USD borderless account up it only works for ACH AFAIK not for swift transactions so should work for you.
I'm sorry guys I have a total brain freeze with this stuff.
Can I use this as a means of getting funds from my Vietnamese account to my uk bank account.
I can't transfer directly as my employers refuse to give me the paperwork my Vietnamese bank requires (which is illegal but.. nothing I can do).
Thanks.

They will send to Vietnam but dont support sending out.
Yeah.. this is the pisser. Almost impossible to get the money out.
My bank demands a one year visa '"showing more than > 365 days left"' on it before they will countenance an international bank transfer. Go Figure.

Local money changer not worthwhile? Otherwise you should be any member arriving in Vietnams first point of contact so you can swap your Dong for $$

Lol, I don't think they realize that there's no such thing. However, they probably mean a temporary residence card, which looks like a visa stamped into your passport but is actually not a visa and usually is good for 2-3 years.
