I'd like to bring this thread back to the original point which was less a solicitation for advice on my personal situation and moreso to develop a process chart that would help others in a similar situation.
If the general sentiment is "either confess and accept the consequences or end it altogether" then there's not much point for this thread to continue.
However, if people have found themselves in a situation where the aforementioned options aren't ideal then the fruits of this discussion could be helpful. Judging by the PMs I've received I'm not the only one who sees value in this.
