Violent brawl erupts inside nail salon over botched eyebrow wax, racism alleged

What nationality are the shop workers in the video, Vietnamese or Chinese? The Vietnamese have almost completely taken over the manicure and pedicure business in the US. You can walk into a manicure shop in some cowtown in the Midwest, and the staff will be Vietnamese. I assume they do it just like the Koreans took over the dry cleaning industry- by giving each other low interest loans and price-warring the competition out of business. The Vietnamese are now working on the barber shop industry in the US the same way. In a way it's unfortunate that in a black neighborhood that none of the manicure shops are run by black people, because if there is a dispute the staff would have a much easier time of dealing with it.

#notall is the biggest strawman load of shit. No one here is arguing all people of any race are a certain way; even card-carrying racists don't usually argue this way.

Words mean things. Speak precisely. "Black people" isn't the same as, "some black people" or "disproportionately poor, urban black people". If you mean one of the later two, then use that.

If I as a black dude said, "white people don't have any rhythm" I doubt many here would give me the "no one is arguing all people of any race are a certain way" benefit of the doubt. You'd assume I was a racist POS.

No I really wouldn't. I'd assume you were making a valid generalization. Just like if you said women lack upper body strength, or Chinese people can't drive, or blacks don't tip.

If I said, "I've witnessed a lot of white people from the suburbs who can't dance", you might still counter with your experience of suburban white people who could dance just fine, but you wouldn't think I was being a racist dick, because I didn't speak about white people as a whole ("white people") just the ones I've seen from the 'burbs.

No I'd think you were using awkward phrasing to make a public display of how anti-racist you claim to be.

In the defense of the Vietnamese Barbers, their women cut white guys' hair extremely well. I go to one across the street from me. They could double the price and I would still pay.

Plus, they know their customers. The only decorations inside are flat screens that show whatever game is on basic cable.

I don't think being precise is awkward, and I don't do public displays. I think it's important to say exactly what you mean. If you're using words that you don't mean, then you're using the wrong words.

Yes, I go to a Vietnamese barber also. They do fine. I don't know how well they do on eyebrow waxes (or whatever it was the customer was getting in the video).

Despite the title to that movie "White Men Can't Jump" that Woody guy does seem like sort of a bad-ass. I don't think I've ever actually seen the movie. How is he portrayed in the film? I've always liked Wesley Snipes.

Pure autism. All nouns are generalizations. One of the great challenges of taxonomy is trying to determine where one thing ends, and where another begins.

Consider ring species for instance.

How many races here? Species? Subspecies?

There's no right answer to that, and so we're left with discovering the most effective generalization, and 99% of people will understand what you mean. Otherwise you're left spending ten minuted defining the parameters for the statement "Houses are warm during the winter."

#NotAllHouses

"The cow goes moo."

NOT ALL COWS!

Woody, being a doofy looking white guy who is secretly good at basketball, partners with Snipes to hustle guys at basketball games. He can't dunk and this is a source of insecurity for him. The message seems to be that black guys are better at jumping but white guys are better at making decisions, but then drama happens that makes you question those assumptions. It's a good movie that harkens back to the days when race was discussed in non-cucky terms in mass media.

"A black guy would rather look good and lose; a white guy would rather look bad and win."
