Why are attractive women suddenly into cosplay?

In the comic, video game, and anime conventions of the 1990's the women who cosplayed had costumes that looked crude and horribly made, and they were ugly, and then all of a sudden, from 2005 onward, there are suddenly so many hot chicks in comic, video game, and anime conventions. These women are attractive, with smooth skin and large breasts, they put on makeup, foundation, lipstick, eye shadow, and contact lenses to match the eye color of the characters they are cosplaying, and their costumes are very well made, with them going to tailors or buying good quality costumes from costume shops. This is very strange because, if you go online and look up images of conventions from the 1990's and further into the past, the women in the conventions were very ugly and had terrible costumes. I think the reason why there are suddenly so many attractive female cosplayers is that they are not there because they like comics, video games, and anime, they are there to attention whore and show off their sexy bodies in skimpy costumes. In fact, these women may have only heard about these conventions because of the internet, unlike in the past when knowledge about where conventions would take place only spread by word of mouth and from advertisement posters in hobby shops, and because of this, you had to be a real geek to know about the dates and locations of conventions because knowledge of such events can only come from being with a close inner circle of geek friends or visiting a hobby shop. Even when internet was already available by the 1990's, word of mouth and posters from hobby shops were the only way to know about conventions because there were no fan sites advertising conventions since the internet at the time was slow and data charges for putting up a website were expensive. Then from 2005 onward, fast internet connections like DSL broadband, cable, fiber optic, WIFI, and satellite internet suddenly became available and the cost of having an internet connection and data charges for owning a website drastically decreased. This caused many fan sites for comics, video games, and anime to suddenly emerge which made schedules for conventions available to the wider general public including attention whoring hot chicks, resulting in the sudden influx of hot chicks in conventions.

That is another thing, aside from the introduction of fast and low cost internet, social media was also introduced and became popular from 2005 onward which made it possible for attention whoring hot women to advertise pictures of themselves in sexy costumes. Another factor that made hot chicks interested in cosplay is the introduction of crowd funding websites. If they become popular because of posting sexy cosplay pictures on the internet, they can use crowd funding to get donations from horny fans with the guarantee of posting more sexy pictures. This gives them an income, because they could end up with more money than what they spend on having a costume made or buying a costume.

Better question:

Why are grid girls being outlawed with all the Puritanical force of a Salem witchhunter's ardour, but cosplay girls are being celebrated?

Short answer:

Historically, in order to sell something off a girl's looks, you had to pay her fair rent for the acreage of her T&A. Grid girls, retail models, supermodels, the idea is the same in each case: get the guy's dick hard and he'll buy the shit.

Cosplay in its modern, Instawhore form is idiots doing the corporations' advertising for them. Let's remember it came first out of Japan, whose culture is essentially Madison Avenue distilled down to a concentration equivalent to the most lethal Jack Daniels liquor you could find.

With cosplayers, you don't have to pay silly bitches who dress up as the products they want you to buy, they're actually dumb enough to spend thousands of dollars of their own money to create something that looks just like the product maker would like it portrayed to dumb men - who are the real target demo.

Better still, Instawhores are better at being in character because their whole lives revolve around playing a part, as compared with the standard retail model whose fixed smile never quite reaches her eyes.

Compare, in short, the dedicated slut to the prostitute. One does it for money, the other does it for the attention and for herSelf. The latter is much more attractive to a corporation, because they don't have to pay her, and because they (supposedly) like this shit, they don't get the normies' guards' up like a retail model does.

Not even crowdfunding, companies will literally pay people with a decent amount of followers to wear/promote their gear, or give them free stuff.

In economic terms, social media/internet led to the discovery of a metaphorical oil field/gold mine/mineral deposit/New World/ etc. in the form of thirsty introverted nerds. Pre-2010 or so women had to interact with men nearly face to face (unless she was famous and had a media platform) in order to garner attention and other resources like money. The money and attention of comic nerds simply wasn't available to them since comic nerds rarely connected with real life women.

If a hot girl dressed up as Sailor Moon or whatever at Comiccon 2001 she'd get attention for a couple of hours; now, she gets 1000's of IG followers, or game stream followers or what have you, so there is a real gain to be had.

I used to spend an inordinate amount of my time within the cosplay culture culture...

Its basic SMV economocs.
ALL females want the attention of the highest value male.
In this case what they consider high value differs from what our current IG models value.
They also just want attention in general but in most cases they aren't conventionally attractive as a swimsuit model. There is something holding them back from breaking through to become a solid "7". Whether it be weight, facial features, body type. Whatever it ends up being they found attention within the video game/comic book/anime communities by dressing up.

The large majority of cosplay girls you see at conventions are 5s and 6s. There are outliers that will be a firm 7.5 and above but those are the exceptions and not the rule. The ones you see on patreon selling NSFW photos and videos aren't actual cosplayers but more like nude models that got into cosplay because they see it as an untapped market of thirsty nerds that are willing to pay money for their content.
Some of my friends that are still involved in the community are kinda pissed at this shit. They get approached to do nude photo shoots or sexual content all the time at conventions because they cosplay. (These girls aren't doing it for likes and followers on the internet. More so for the showcase of their talent to spend 100h hours on making costumes for others in the community)

I also think there is a power/self-esteem aspect.

Cosplayers can be the worst whiners when it comes to slapping men who express their thirst in a cat-calling way. They want the attention, but only on their own terms. I think some of them like being in a perch where they can attract attention while simultaneously chiding and shaming them for wrong-think. There's a very active online community of shaming "cosplay creepers" that are comprised of SJW types and white-knighters. And you can bet the white-knights are emptying kleenex boxes whacking off to cosplay girls just as much as the worst creepers. They're just putting on an act.

It's the same reason the #MeToo models did those nude photoshoots in the mistaken belief that they could show off their bodies and earn respect rather than objectification.

Women know that the best way to gain attention is T&A and they keep deluding themselves into thinking that the attention can be actively steered towards some modicum of respect of them as people rather than just their bodies. The costumes provide them with plausible deniability. The costumes fit the mold of sexual fetishes and the tightness of the outfits show off their bodies and yet they think the only thing fans will be complimenting is their craftsmanship skills???

It's never worked before and never will in the future, but they keep trying.

Gamers are one of the thirstiest demographics. Makes a lot of sense.

Lauren Southern used to cosplay. Just one of many forms of female attention whoring.

Appealing to the sexual fantasies of a category of men who are A) shy, lonely, and horny and B) have disposable income is a Thot Jackpot.

Where it gets interesting to me is these girls' descriptions of their work as "ero" or "lewd" cosplay, where for like $50-100 on a Patreon pledge or premium Snapchat or wherever, you can see them doing nudes or outright diddling themselves as Lara Croft, Jessica Rabbit, some superhero chick or one of the female anime characters with giant tits. And I can't help but feel like that's just another layer of hamster paint to keep these girls from thinking of themselves as closely related to certain other professions in which women sexually market their bodies in exchange for money. So they delude themselves into thinking it's at all classy or empowering to sell what amounts to softcore pornography of themselves to timid nerds and soy boy "feminist allies" and the like - all of whom do it so they can jack off. Period.

And if you think it's bad enough reading the comments on your garden-variety Instagram ho taking thigh gap selfies, just imagine how much worse it is when you add comic book, video game, and sci-fi fantasies into the mix. Because there are whole conventions for that stuff. You can guess where this is probably going in the next couple years.

There's a lot of fanservice in female characters since young or nerdy males are currently their largest audience.

There are countless cosplays like this on social media & at any manga/anime/comic/gaming convention. Many female cosplayers prefer cosplaying female characters who wear revealing outfits.
Cosplay and original character pictures are placed side by side for comparison.

Yes, the hot female cosplayers are especially liked by companies because they advertise their products for them at their own expense.

That is another thing, some of these hot cosplay chicks are even models who are paid by companies to promote a certain comic, video game, or anime, just like the showgirls in car conventions.

IDK about you but i've always seen hot girls doing cosplay.....but here's the new reason as to why

1. Instagram- did you know a high-level Instagram model can make 100k or more a year? So if you market yourself to gamers and nerds who have a hard time getting women and want to see their favorite characters in ultra-high definition, you'll gain a mass following.

2. Its fun- Girls love doing makeup and dressing up in cute costumes.......so yeah its fun for them, plus this is another Halloween for their childlike spirits.

3. There are actually more female gamers-I remember a push around 2011 that it was cool for girls to play video games. Women tend to follow trends and this trend so happened to be addictive. Then with this increase of comic books and such more and more women started to "like" comic books for attention

Hopped in this thread hoping for some quick entertainment, not dissapointed.

The other reason why it's popular is that there's a huge amount of "big fish in a small pond" going on. Most geek women look more like well....Zoe Quinn. Any reasonable attractive girl can cosplay around a nerd event and bump her effective SMV up dramatically to bask in the attention and free crap thrown her way by thirsty males whereas she would be lucky to get more than free drinks at a bar or free meals at a mid-tier chain restaurant elsewhere.

Grid girls were banned because the historical primary audience of F1 is middle aged, middle class white men — the eternal enemy of the middle class, puritanical feminist (it's about power, you see). Darts and (soon to be) boxing girls were/will be banned because the primary audience is working class men — the eternal enemy of the progressive bourgeoisie (Tommy Robinson is a case in point).

Cosplay girls won't be banned because of the various arguments presented eloquently above by numerous posters. I'd also lay out the argument that one of the reasons is the plausible deniability of sexual objectification the girls can present, plus the fact that many of the viewers/attendees of conferences aren't white.

As an aside, all this reminds me to really generate a 'scene in', as many put it. Find a niche (metal/hard rock would be mine) and own that shit, and if you're cooler than most people in it (I am), then you'll get the hottest girls who gravitate toward it. Most girls only gravitate toward something niche due to a thirst for attention and gratification, not out of any genuine love for the artform or admiration of the technical skills involved. But nevertheless, I know guitar players in shitty, pub-level metal bands who have fairly hot women pretty much constantly... and the men themselves are usually emaciated gimps living off a bacon sandwich and 10 pints a day.

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. - H L Mencken

What I think was indirectly referenced but not mentioned head-on is that the reason cosplay girls are seen as neutral or even positive is that these women are in charge of their attention-whoring. Feminists can therefore spin it as empowering, that these women are entrepreneurs in a way. Grid-girls, booth-babes, cheerleaders, etc... are paid to jiggle and prance around, therefore they aren't at the top of the pyramid, hence feminists see it as a form of exploitation. Feminists are more inclined to approve of women selling their bodies in some shape or form as long as they're doing it directly rather than allowing a male to keep a piece of the action.

Bingo! You are 100% correct here. The Yaya Han chick parlayed her huge breasts into an actual business. I give her credit for turning herself into a moneymaking machine. She even has a comic book character based on her. She's already 36 years old so I'm guessing she'll retire for going to cosplay conventions before she hits the wall already making her fortune.

In this video she mentions how when she entered cosplay in 1999 she was shunned by the geeks and freaks.

For any Dominant guy, these girls are easy prey. Just slowly introduce them to Submission. Invent any bullshit story you want, they'll buy it. Buy or rent them some gorgeous submissive gear. Start slowly whacking their asses, they will crave more. After 2 or 3 sessions you have a submissive fuck toy.

It's a real fad, and gathers a tremendous amount of attention. More attention that a typical slinky red dress... which everyone wears. The anime characters are popular in the West now too - its just something different to see.
