Which European coastal cities are still pumping in Sept?
07-23-2018, 01:53 AM
hey rvf!
I will be in Europe during the whole month of September. I will land in Lisbon Aug 31 and leave around early Oct.
Ive been racking my brain trying to choose which cities to visit during the month of sept. Im well aware that i'll have missed out on the crux of party / summer atmosphere in many places, so some guidance on which cities would be appreciated.
My main criteria:
- to be somewhere coastal
- still relatively warm, still able to head to beach
- good party / nightlife
- still busy and still has local and touristy crowds
- conducive to both day or night game, not fussed
There's nothing more depressing to me than going to a party town and realizing its a ghost town or that there's been a mass exodus. Would still very much like to go and experience the last bits of a European summer while i still have it (next year i'll do things a little differently!)
For example, i hear the greek islands really quiet down and some clubs start to close in sept, if not all. So that rules greek islands out. Wondering if the same timelines apply to Croatian beach clubs?
Looking forward to some ideas.
Thanks guys

The only coastal place I can think of where it is surely still busy in September is Barcelona. With all other places it is quite a gamble. Your chances are better if you look for coastal cities rather than for coastal towns.
So you might look into Split or Varna (the town not Golden Sands) but please beware I never visited these two places in September so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Could asked that in your other thread joe. But anyway Ibiza has its closing parties in september and those are very popular.
Barcelona as super said.
The greek islands should still be better than croatia i think just because of weather and water temperatures but im just assuming

joe, youre coming back next year right?
Dont overthink this. I mean Oktoberfest is a great time and Budapest is an amazing city. Youre doing 3-4 days so no point overanalyzing. Do the other one next year.
If next year doesnt coincide with Oktoberfest then do it this year.

Cyprus should be warm enough in September for partying.

I would prefer Kemer in Turkey. It will be much more warmer than the other places mentioned in the thread. Plus, in september too many people coming from countries like Russia, Ukraine or the Baltics as it gets too cold there.

I would include Palma de Mallorca for that period of the year.

I was in Cluj recently, thought the place was overrated. What people don't realise is that it's mostly sports students there - full of big and in shape sausages. Girls were pretty average by EE standards also, much preferred Hungarian girls across the border

Can you elaborate? I’ve only been in July / August but never September. Was thinking about basing myself in Taormina. I’ve been there before and had a ball at some of the clubs, bars. But again, that was in a July month.
Any other thoughts on nightlife in Catania / Taormina during September?
It's terrible there, especially right now due to a lot of migrants. There are a lot of tents they built for refugees. They started to clean up a lot there since we have a different government right now but I wouldn't recommend you to go there.
Someone recommended Kemer, Antalya. I think it's so much better if you like Russian girls. It should be minimum +27-28 there around September.

Why not Croatia? AFAIK September will be shoulder season, the weather still be nice but prices will be lower and slightly fewer tourists. For the record one of the most beautiful countries, and beautiful women, I've ever seen.

The problem with September in European coastal resorts is all the university girls that go there on holiday at some point between June->August will be back in college. So even if the weather is still good a huge chunk of the market of 18-23 year old girls is just not there.
The only places that will be reliably busy, with a good amount of girls, are big, well connected, cities like Barcelona where you have locals, weekend tourists, Erasmus students, Junior Year Abroad Americans etc.
