But I would like to redo this thread and focus solely on Audibe books that people recommend that I can purchase with my tokens, and I would also like to know how you liked the reader of the book. The reader of the book either makes it or breaks it for me. I do not like to listen to books narrated by females nor do I like books read by men with wimpy voices.

Ready Player One - read by Wil Wheaton, Rated the best audio book out there by many websites. I enjoyed the hell out of this book. The reader is an actor so he did a great job with a clear voice.

These are a selection of completed titles from my library with review scores including reader performance. There are a lot of 4's and 5's because I'm very picky in what I purchase. The only title started but unfinished is 12 Rules For Life by Jordan Peterson. I had to ditch it after two chapters of meandering waffle.

The best so far is probably Walden with an amazing performance. God Is Disappointed In You is very amusing.




I'm current listening to Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, very good so far, and have another ten or so books lined up. I listen to audio books whilst driving to work, not because I prefer the format to normal books.

Marcus Aurelius - The meditations

The best audible i have ever listened to.

Narated by Duncan Steen. He has an incredible deep and slow voice that shines wisdom. Coupled with what's in the book, it feels like i am getting life advice from the wisest.

I have probably 100+ books in my Audible library... mostly fantasy, science fiction, and horror, but some non-fiction and popular science, as well.

A few that I've really liked lately:

12 Rules For Life by Jordan Peterson

Swan Song by Robert McCammon - epic story about a nuclear war, like King's The Stand but better IMO.

I really enjoying listening to this while I'm walking into work. The narrator's voice (I'm not sure if it's Tolle himself) is super relaxing, and I always feel very peaceful and present after listening to this one.

I've gone through most all of the Bond books written by Ian Flemmimg, those were engrossing and helped 6 hour drives to LA go by quickly.

I've started going through Scott Adams persuasion reading list and books on how to tell stories. Up next on the list is [Thinking, Fast and Slow].

Then once the urge for fiction returns I've purchased the Sherlock Holmes books.

I'll second 12 Rules... I'm a little late to the Jordan Peterson party, but this is an amazing book and Peterson's narration emphasizes the points he's trying to make in each chapter.

Moneyball by Michael Lewis. I saw the movie and figured I didn't need to read or hear the book, but I was wrong. This was an excellent listen and it's more than a story about baseball. It's a story about an man who went his own way and wasn't afraid to challenge prevailing wisdom and the established system. Came away with this one with a deep respect for Billy Beane and what he has accomplished. I don't know who the narrator is, but he must be a professional voice actor because the narration is warm and conveys the emotions of the scenes played out in each chapter.

Five Families: The Rise, Decline and Resurgence of America's Most Powerful Empires by Selwyn Raab. This is a long listen but it was highly entertaining. The narrator is an Italian guy from New York who perfectly nails the tough wiseguy Brooklyn accents. I might do in depth review of this in the book review thread because it touches on so many points of American history and has a lot of interesting things to say about Rudy Giuliani and Robert Mueller. The book spans the entire history of the NYC cosa nostra from unorganized Italian street gangs to prohibition cartels, to highly organized mafia families. Best parts are about the 1980s gangsters led of course by John Gotti and then Anthony "Gaspipe" Casso and Vincent "The Chin" Gigante. Well worth it especially if going on a long road trip.
