I’ve tested and have type 2 but never had symptoms and IF I did, then it was so minuscule that it went unnoticed. It showed up on both std tests I’ve taken while using protection as I’ve only been with 4 women, of which 3 were one nighters/short flings. You should have had her tell you what her results were of the IGG type specific if you didn’t. I went back for confirmatory testing and scores both fell into what they call a gray zone/false positive(1.1-3.0). Meaning my antibody level went from a 2.5 to a 1.5 over 18weeks and the positive range is 1.09+. So honestly I can’t be so sure I even have it unless I take another test called the western blot(200-300USD)so I don’t tell anyone unless I legit see something down there. The stigma is too great and I use protection so I choose not to disclose unless I’m in a LTR and decide to go unprotected. I’m not really sure why you would consult with guys on here about whether you should stay with a girl who has it if you’ve been using condoms and she can get put on valtrex. Guys will only tell you the logical thing to do because it’s considered an std yet these people out here with cold sores can technically transmit that to your genitals and boom now you have hsv down there.
Found out my new gf has HSV-2 (Genital Herpes). Should I stay?
Why even bother using a condom. A condom doesn't prevent the spread of hsv. Your pelvic base will still touch hers rendering a condom ineffective. Unless of course you have a 12" cock and she can only take 6 insertable inches, thus the base of your pelvis never touches hers

As far as I know there is currently no way to detect Herpes unless you have the cold sores. What kind of test was it exactly ?
Blood test will tell you - and if you have hsv1 or 2
There is a type specific test, ELISA (IGG) which will look to determine if you have type 1 or type 2 in the US but it does not tell you location, only the prevalence of antibodies. It’s fairly accurate but it’s also advised by the CDC to only get tested using it if you have symptoms or have been through a phase of multiple partners.
Most accurate test is to take a swab of a herpes sore.
