Dog hates my prospective business partner

Some of you were asking OP to be rational - the trouble with rational thinking is that without all the information (in this case, how dogs really think and whether or not they can sense ill intention on a person without other cause), it can be very difficult to reach "rational," unbiased conclusions. I think the reaction of dogs to shady people has been noted by humans for a long time, and if something similar happened to me, I'd definitely be on high alert.

I think most dog owners know their dogs well enough to be hip to this.

I'm curious if there's anyone here who considers themselves an honest, non-violent, well-meaning person who gets this type of reaction from dogs that don't normally behave that way? Except in outlier incidents, like the one regarding the wooden heels, I'd venture these incidents are few and far between. Another instance where you might trigger a dog's alarm, I'd guess, would be if you just don't like their owner very much and are pretending you do for the sake of politeness, so that might also be an outlier incident.

Of course, everyone sees themselves as a "good person," but I'm sure we all know in our heart of hearts if dogs should be warning their owners away from us or not. I also doubt the psychopaths who've always got dogs lunging for their balls will bother replying.

I, for one, find dogs to be extremely accommodating to me. Even dogs that are known to be aggressive and bark often at new people, or are just standoffish, tend to warm up to me real quick and surprise their owners. Or am I just telling you this before I ask for your bank details?

UPDATE

Talked to my father earlier today who informs me the guy in question (the one my dog hated) had his house raided by the federal police. He's under investigation for allegedly selling forged land leases and collaborating with certain banks to artificially spike up low income housing bids all over the city. This led to thousands of families not being able to put down enough money for a home and having to pay double to triple the rent they would have to this same guy and the bank who outbid them.

Might have dodged a bullet.

Thanks Doge!

Actually more like you 'dogged a bullet' ;-)

Thanks for posting this update. I remember seeing this thread a few months ago and meant to reply in favor of taking your dog's behavior seriously, but then I somehow forgot. (I know easily said now).

Anyway, I would always take my dog's instincts seriously. Pack animals and dogs in particular are all instinct, geared toward survival of the pack. They don't care about good intentions, they simply see what is in front of them. Ignore them at your own peril.

Well, you can't blame the guy. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there.

Your dog is always going to be loyal to you.

A business partner - no such certainty.

The same applies to women.

Lol typical Ethiopia bullshit. I anticipate this is how the case will turn out, a high ranking police officer or government official will steal the money that this guy got through fraud and they will claim he already sent all the money abroad and it can't be recovered. They will then charge him and a couple of his accomplices and it will instantly go through because of kangaroo court bs and they will get a lengthy sentence. None of the money will be returned to the victims and this bs will continue to happen.

For those of you interested in doing business in developing countries, believe me when I say that conventional wisdom and knowledge on western business practices is not enough. You need a 6th sense to look through all the bullshit people try to pull.

Been back home the past few weeks trying to cement some ongoing projects with my father.

I invited a possible future business partner, quite the renowned guy and expert in his specific technical discipline, to my parents house for dinner.

I did meet him twice beforehand and nothing about his behavior struck me as particularly untrustworthy. At the same time, none of his mannerisms led me to believe him to be a paragon of integrity either.

Never have partners. They fuck up every time. You think you've won, then at the last minute, at the worst possible time, when you are on a vacation or taking care of your sick grandmother, they turn into a Frankenstein monster and destroy all of your work.

Sole ownership is the only way to go.

It wound be funny if he was raided for running one of those puppy mills. Or if your partner was Michael Vick.
