Oxfam prostitution scandal: Charities report over 1,000 sexual abuse incidents every year, says regulator

Charity Commission says it was not told full story about behaviour of activists in aftermath of Haiti earthquake as scrutiny turns to other humanitarian organisations

Charities are reporting more than 1,000 incidents over the protection of children and vulnerable people every year, the UK’s regulator has revealed in the wake of the Oxfam scandal.

Priti Patel, the former International Development Secretary, has accused the aid sector of building a “culture of denial” around exploitation as scrutiny widens to other NGOs.

Oxfam representatives are to meet with the Government for crisis talks today amid threats to withhold funding from the charity over its handling of allegations of sexual misconduct by its staff.

It's almost daily in the news these days, all the scandals from NGO's. What are your guys thoughts on this? I can't even believe when I was in my teens me and my family donated 20€ to them every year. I already heard certain stories from NGO workers slutting it up abroad but there was never money involved from the NGO itself.

Regards your last paragraph are you saying Oxfam funded it from its coffers? Because as you say, it's common knowledge that wherever there is NGOs or the UN (etc) prostitution will surely follow. When I first heard the story my initial reaction, was so what, I thought everyone knew that.

The fact that the government funds such NGOs is what I actually find most interesting. I don't find the other stuff very surprising or shocking. The hoes would probably be hoes if oxfam wasn't there, let's be honest.

It just seems like the latest chapter is a society wide clamp down on (usually male), sexuality. Are we supposed to believe it's a coincidence it's happening at the same time as #metoo etc, or are we supposed to believe this sort of thing hasn't always gone on. It's the same as the casting couch #metoo shit. It's always gone on, but now it's being brought in to the public spotlight.

There is a main thread on RVF on the many evils of charities and NGOs here:

To me it seems very overblown. From what I've read, he didn't even use Oxfam money to hire prostitutes, he just hired them with his own money in his own time. After that, he was forced to step down which is a more than sufficient punishment.

Personally I'm quite sceptical of charities like Oxfam but what's interesting is that the news outlets pushing this story are the usually pro-charity, pro-illegal immigrant, SJW types. If like the people pushing the story, you believe in charities then the real victim here is not some girl who willingly sold her body in a time of need but the millions of people in desperate situations who Oxfam will no longer be able to help because the public and government will stop their donations as a result of this scandal.

By pushing this story so much, they are actively hurting all the people who the charity would legitimately help. Which makes it clear that the SJW theme of these media outlets is just a front and really that's not what they believe in, it's just a way of manipulating the public for political gain. How exactly I'm not sure how exactly but maybe someone with a deeper understanding can elaborate?

What is instructive about the whole thing is how quickly the scandal of aid workers using prostitutes, to whatever extent that actually is a scandal, has become an issue of the horrors and abuses visited upon defenceless White Women by predatory charity CEOs - ie relatively wealthy men in a position of power. If ever one needed an illustration that this is not about love of the victims, but rather about hatred for the system and its archetypes, this is surely it.

Middle class white girls have had to endure persistent text messaging, comments on their clothing, emails, and even in person meetings where their bosses have made not-so-thinly-veiled advances. Worse, they have had to live with the nightmare knowledge that to resist might see their careers hampered. I sympathise to an extent - the thought of a lifetime spent in mid-management in an NGO is the kind of thing that would wake me screaming in the night, and indeed represents a special type of hell. I am lucky that my own night terrors promise the relative mercy of a quick, if gruesome, death.

It is this the failure to recognise the rarified status of the middle class white woman that is the real outrage, as can be seen from the column inches dedicated to it. The hounding of men who sent 'inappropriate text messages', who dared to breach that normative standard of conduct, and their gleeful and sadistic destruction is what really occupies the minds and hearts, such as they have them, of those most exercised by the scandal.

It is unfortunate that the men in question are really quite odious and no doubt clumsy and unlovely seducers. I loathe the husband of Jo Cox, his name being utterly irrelevant, and one need only look at him to see what a poisonous toad he is. But it seems to me that he, and the currently even-less-culpable Paul Forsyth, ought to be defended, even if one might really have to hold one's nose and keep the sick bucket handy as one does it.

It's clearly a coordinated frontal attack by the media. It happened 8 years ago. Some director from Oxfam paid a girl (he claims overage, Oxfam claims also underage but perhaps 17 or so) to have sex in his private house, not using Oxfam money and in his free time. Big deal. They try to change it to massive sex parties with underage vulnerable girls funded with Oxfam money, but there is no proof of this whatsoever.

Any big corporation has guys who pay for whores, if those are based in third world, the chances are a lot higher. Claiming that he exploits these women is something only people who never been to shitholes believe. Like he forced these girls in prostitution or exploited her vulnerability lol, half of the women in Haiti are more than willing to fuck for money. A couple of guys from NGO wont change that, its their culture and it's the same in half of the world.

The main question is "why this attack now" and ' why Oxfam specifically" or will they go after other NGO's next?

This is indeed the question.

My best guess would be that given the DNC is past-broke certain players are now desperately turning the screws on their former vassal organisations for campaign contributions.

This is a shot across the bow of all progressive NGOs to pay up or have their names dragged through the mud. It's the classic "offer they can't refuse". Front up a few mil or lose ten times that much in donations from the public after a sex scandal or two is dredged up and splashed across CNN.

Frankly I have zero doubt that stuff like this is the tip of the tip of the iceberg in terms of NGO abuses. And even that pales in comparison to what goes on within the ranks of the UNPROFOR.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

White women aren't getting enough promotions I guess.
Everything about metoo and all this just makes me think it's all about making sure white women always get the promotions/opportunities. If they don't its sexist.
