Never seen it until now, but looks like the old Shah knew (((the global agenda))) even way back then.

But I'm guessing he either figured out who was controlling him (or he knew and only started saying it publicly) when it was way too late for him, and his power had become way too dependant on that money and political backing.

Iran's got a colorful history of monarchic abdications and coup d'etats. The last true royal was forced to step dowin1925 and it's a curious fact of history that his successor, Reza Pahlavi Sr was forced to step down by the English and Soviets for his (GOD FORBID) support of Hitler during the war.

Reza at least attempted to modernize the country and put Islam into a secular place. Shame they didn't treat him the same way they treated Hirihito after Japan surrendered.

Whatever happens, here's hoping the Islamic tools running it give way to leaders who lead In the spirit of Reza.

Fuck Iran, this shit has been a long time coming. I hope the CIA makes that shithole pay for 1979, I have not forgotten. You do not disrespect our embassy and hold our country men hostage.

This is way too simple a reading of a complicated situation. Most people have no clue why the iranian revolutionaries occupied the US embassy in 1979 and held the hostages.

Firstly, one of the many reason they took over the embassy was that was to exchange those US hostages for the return of the Shah of Iran who had fled into exile. The shah and his helpers were supposed to be put on trial to face charges of corruption and (((foreign influence))) and they also wanted the USA to return millions (billions ?) of cash the Shah took out of the country and put in foreign (mostly swiss & american) banks.

Secondly, in 1979 the USA had frozen all the iranian gold stored in the USA, and other sites around the world. Something like 50 tonnes of pure gold was the amount just in the federal reserve bank of New York, not counting other sites around the world.

Specifics from an Iranian website:

Quote:Quote:

In that year[1979], Iran’s assets were somewhere around $12 billion, which included $3.518 billion deposits of Iran’s Central Bank (Bank-e Markazi) with American banks in London, $400 million deposits in American banks in Paris, $167 million deposits in American banks in the United States, $300 million Deposits of other Iranian banks with American banks, $407 million deposits of the National Iranian Oil Company, $2.108 billion funds relating to oil sales, $1.1 billion treasury notes of Iran’s Central Bank with the Federal Reserve Bank, $269 million deposits of the Iran’s Central Bank with the Federal Reserve Bank, $800 million trust fund of the Ministry of Defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and gold from Iran’s Central Bank with the Federal Reserve Bank equal to 1,632,827 ounces.

The USA refused to return the Shah, his cash or iran's gold reserves...so Iran kept the hostages.

The shah died a year later after fleeing the country, and the iranians releasing they werent gonna get him alive or most of the cash, only released the hostages after getting back most of iran's gold reserves stored abroad.

This is potentially excellent. Iran gets rid of their pre-medieval child molesters, PLUS, the US isn't dragged into another Israeli war? Priceless.

Allow me to drop this small data, 50% of Iran's population is very young, below 30 I believe. Most are also westernized to an extent and have a lot more on their mind than Islam. Persians were always smarter and more secular than Arabs. What does this mean?

It may not be tomorrow, it may not be next year, but within a generation, Iran will change for the better. Actually, I have relative optimism for the ME/Central Asia. The next worrying prospect regarding Islam is probably Africa.

Cuba? Cuba exists for the US like Carthage existed for the Romans. "See what you can become?" This is why they are not immediately destroyed, but instead left to fester while it is pleasing.

North Korea? Who knows. Some conspiracies say it's actually a CIA-ran sort of state to act as a boogeyman in the area. Either way, be that the case or not, they could be quickly beaten. The problem is that Seoul would never look the same anymore after all their attacks, in theory. Who knows how it might play out. Either way, none of these are boogeymen.

Is it THAT unbelievable that people would rise up against pre-medieval theocrats without having foreign incentives? In several cities, in a completely disorganized fashion? Gotta stop blaming it all on the Great-Satan yo.

Being "anti-globalist" doesn't count for very much when you are essentially mass killing your own citizens. This must not be the "healthy" or rather, the only alternative to the dictatorship of TINA neoliberal ideology. They must be quashed by non interventionist means so that a TRUE alternative might show up, as they say, nationalism is not about hating those outside your country, but by loving those inside.

PS: You need 50 posts to be allowed in the Politics section, boyo!

Is important to point out this when people talk about immigrants from ME countries before Islamic Revolution. If you are coming from a country like this to the USA or any other Western country, is not that hard to assimilate and accept Western values.

I totally agree. I'm baffled by all this binary outlook. I mean, I kind of understand it. A lot of people I followed re: Syria situation, of course are pissed with these protests....because all they care about is IR's foreign policy. The plight of ordinary citizens don't concern them. And I can't blame them, because in many other countries, the only thing that concerns me is their foreign policy. I've never commented on US Tax Laws/Health Care/etc because it doesn't impact my life, so I never comment on them.

What they fail to realize is that it's possible for a Iranian gov't to be anti-globalist, yet doesn't deny the most basic social freedoms to its citizens, or spends over half of national budget on religious propaganda or foreigners. When America votes for "AMERICA FIRST" we cheer, yet when Iranians ask for "IRAN FIRST"...it's globalist propaganda ??!!

A dual-citizen Iranian-Swedish scientist came to Tehran for a scientific conference last year, and was arrested and put to jail and is now awaiting execution. His crime? In one of his research projects, he had Israeli partners basically. Just great! Do you know the precedent it sets? BUT YEA, THEY ARE SO ANTI-GLOBALIST, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!!

In fact, since 2005, Iranian people have consistently voted for reformists in Elections. in 2009 there was widespread fraud, and in 2013 and 2017 the reformist Rouhani won. The nuclear deal really made people hopeful that the economic situation will improve....but what has really impacted the latest movements is the release of budget for the New Years. Reformist president, yet defense spending 40% ups much budget allocated to Imam clerics and religious propaganda, and foreign operations.....yet prices of eggs soars and people's basic needs aren't met. It's one of the reasons the most recent protests are happening even in much smaller cities, whereas 2009 was mostly in urban and big cities (most smaller districts voted for Ahmadinejad back then anyways).

Anyways, next week will be interesting. If protests are still ongoing by next. Friday lets' say...then maybe something positive will happen (be it some positive internal reforms the regime concedes so "save" itself or whatever).

There is a Persian saying that translates into: "If god is willing, your enemy could make positive changes in your life". MBS latest threats and so called reforms in Saudi Arabia has also played an indirect role in people's frustration...so maybe that saying could apply here.

Some people who know me personally, know that I am Iranian and have been in Iranian politics at my younger age.

I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. And spend first two decades of my life there. Then I moved to the UK and have been here for 11 years. I spend around 9 months in Tehran in 2016.

My friends and I had a bit of discussion about what is happening in Iran right now and would like to share some thoughts here.

- Iran's Deal in 2015 and Lift of many sanctions from US and EU gave this false hope to Iranian people that this will improve their lives. For example, Obama released billions of dollars of cash and handed to the Iranian regime. Apparently, even one dollar of the after sanction wealth didn't reach to ordinary's people table. Life standard of an average family has decreased 30 percent compared to ten years ago (when actually Iran was under heavy sanctions). And the money stayed in the hand of the corrupted regime and their families.

- This is the revolution of the poor. These demonstrations are mainly started for economic reasons. People who have lost their life savings due to the private banks' corruptions plus a sharp increase in prices of basic commodities like eggs, meat and etc started these demonstrations.

- Because the main supporters of this movement are from poor, unemployed and working-class people, it doesn't get much support from the middle-class elite. Therefore, mainstream media, including BBC Persian, Iranian "intellectuals", Liberals, and pro-regime reformists not only support it but also try to sabotage it.

- The main problem with this movement is lack of leadership. There is no political party or leader to mobilize it. So, it is only an anger which will be suppressed over the time.

- If there was a leader like what Iranian revolution had in 1979, then the whole story was different. I understand that people chant in favour of the previous regime and "Shah" to return. However, to be honest, Iranian Prince, Reza Pahlavi, is a liberal cuck. Politically, he stands somewhere in the Democratic party (not even a cuck Republican). For example, he's the main advocate of climate change (imagine they have overthrown your father's Kingdom and now you focus on climate change) and her daughter hangs out with Chelsea Clinton (if that helps).

- Islamic Regime realizes there is no immediate power to overthrow them. So, they go easy on people. This is the reason that we don't see a brutal suppression of the demonstration, something they did not long ago (in 2009) when they opened fire on people and killed hundreds of Iranians if not thousands.

- People are chanting against the whole regime and not siding with any wings of the establishment (Reformists or Principlists). It seems Reformists (people around Hassan Rouhani the current president) will struggle in any future elections. The main struggle in Iranian future will be the struggle between poor and rich. Any right-wing populist (someone like Farage) could win hearts and minds of millions of Iranians.

Finally, this video is also good. Only 20 minutes:

I genuinely like Iran and persian culture in general. I met a very genuine Iranian gent in the UK and knew a few 2nd generation Perians in the US who were very passionate about their culture.

They know what they need. Unfortunately the last 80 odd years have been a mess for them which is a shame for the cultural integrity of the country.

I've spoken of eradicating the Islamic threat, but Iran was and from what i've gathered still is at the forefront of a healthy securalization of Islam.

Monarchy or not, if there's anyone who can clean up and neuter Islam's worst aspects, it's the Iranian people. I hope the best for them because a forced put down of an entire religion is in ones best interests.

Edit: I was referring to Ironshark and i'm glad he's posting his take on the situation.

Corruption level is like Turkey or Pakistan.

Government leaves private businesses to trade freely. Obviously collects tax from them.

You can travel freely internally or internationally. Most Iranian businesses, in order to bypass sanctions, have an office in Dubai or Istanbul. So, it looks like you are trading with a business in Dubai or Istanbul or even Baku, but in reality, you are dealing with Iran.

The Shah was a pragmatic man it would seem. He didn't curse the jews, he said they were "too clever for their own good", which is the exact wording used by any gentile jew loyalist through history. He said what many have said since, the jews seem to simply not understand when to pull back. They seem unable to stop themselves.

damn it i have to say this, If you see some of these stupid whores in twitter or other places posting their pictures about before and after revolution in iran with their black chadors are liars, i grew up hearing my family mock those cunts who changed their color very fast and went under that thing, decent people never did that, and yes you had to use scarf but that chador usually used by very religious families and people who loved the revolution. people around me never accepted islamic republic and you didn't even needed to wear chador for anything in iran unless you wanted to visit some holy place.
