Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

So the latest is she named the baby Archie after her cat. Now the royals are scrambling to claim that he is named after the Prince's former commanding officer who convinced him to go to Afghanistan. Sure.

Harry married a crazy cat lady. They'll be divorced before the kid is 10.

So what you're saying is; Danny Baker should have used an image with a cat instead of a monkey...? [Image: Upside-smile.png]

Apparently the police are looking into it now:

Broadcaster Danny Baker is being investigated by police over a "stupid" royal baby tweet that saw him sacked from his role presenting a weekly show on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The tweet, a photo showing a well-dressed man and woman holding hands with a suited chimpanzee with the caption "royal baby leaves hospital", was perceived by many as racist.
It is now being "reviewed and assessed by specialist officers".
A Metropolitan Police statement read: "An allegation has been received by the Metropolitan Police Service on Thursday May 9 in relation to a tweet published on the May 8."
"As is routine, the allegation will be reviewed and assessed by specialist officers."

It needs to be borne in mind that the police are only interested in real crimes such as heinous tweets. Compare:

Ten days ago I was sitting outside a cafe in Islington.

Thanks to a few years of working in a nightclub and a couple of years in Russia followed by episodes like the referendum, I have developed a greater than average degree of paranoia. This is almost always irritating but occasionally useful.

Typing away on my computer, I sensed a scooter’s noise was too close.

I looked up and my eyes locked on those of someone driving their scooter into my table in about one second’s time.

Between a mask across his nose and a hat, all I could see was young black male eyes (~15-25). I think it extremely unlikely I could have identified him in a lineup.

A second later his bike hit my table and he grabbed my laptop.

I grabbed it back, we wrestled, he nearly fell off his bike and after a half second pause when I thought ‘fuckhesabouttogetoffhisbikehithimfirst’ he whizzed off down the pavement nearly smashing into someone on the pavement.

This was seen by half a dozen people. Two were calling the cops within seconds.

I stood on the street and cursed my stupidity in fighting over a laptop (no Carole, no evidence of global conspiracies there).

The cops told both witnesses they would come.

I hung around for an hour or so. They never came despite having been told the whole scene was captured on CCTV.

A few days later, as I was typing on my laptop inside the same cafe, the same scene played out.

I saw it through the window as a guy grabbed a laptop from a girl and whizzed off. She was sitting between two parents each with a small child. Both parents were rightly worried about the potential for such attacks to lead to a collision between escaping bike and toddler. My wife and I often sit there with our toddler.

She called the cops and told them it would be on CCTV (I’d told her).

The cops said they’d come.

I hung around for an hour or so.

They never came.

These two incidents have happened after a spate of knife attacks in the half a square mile around this cafe and the colonisation of Rosemary Gardens by various gangs at various times of the day.

According to the Islington Gazette today (HERE), the local cops are claiming that moped crime is 60% down.

I know from my nightclub days that when local cops need to show a fall in crime for political reasons there are all sorts of ways in which they can easily cheat numbers.

As far as I understand it, neither of the two moped attacks above would be recorded in the stats. There was no attempt to watch CCTV footage or gather evidence once they knew the people concerned were not claiming injuries.

It's not the first time that the BBC have sacked Danny Baker. Whether he'll be back I don't know, although they gave Ron Atkinson a job after he was caught out using racist language:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/201...r-to-this/

Quote:Quote:

He was caught on a microphone that was still sending audio feed to Dubai saying that Desailly “is what is known in some schools as a f------ lazy thick n-----.” There is no upside to what he said, no extenuating circumstance, no excuse. “It was a word I had never used before and have never used since,” he writes. “It was idiotic, stupid and offensive and I should never have said it. To this day, I cannot believe I did.”

The moment he did, however, the consequences were significant. He resigned his well-remunerated position at ITV and lost several lucrative commercial deals. Even in the days before Twitter accelerated the process of public shaming, his was widespread and total. These days, the man who reinvented football punditry is an occasional contributor to Manchester United’s in-house broadcaster, MUTV. Once mainstream, Big Ron now splashes about in the backwaters.

Quote:Quote:

Excuse My French was an RDF language programme on the BBC where three celebrities with varying levels of French had one month to learn enough of the language to be able to carry out a task related to their area of expertise in French. They did this while staying in a villa in Provence. They were helped by three teachers (Thierry, Patricia and Christine) from the Institut Français. The series was screened on BBC Two on Tuesday evenings at 9pm in July and August 2006, and consisted of four episodes.

It featured Esther Rantzen, Marcus Brigstocke and Ron Atkinson.

Men are not creepy. Do you know what’s creepy? Spiders, because we don’t know how they move.

Take the level of coverage the British glorified inbreds receive, as an indication of how precious the princess fantasy is to small minded chicks...
Then, that we are inclined to deal with those same small minded chicks; it is best to know one's enemy more than they know themselves.

Did I say enemy? Probably shouldn't have... *sidewaysglance.gif*

The tweet is racist. I'm not sure how that's even debatable.

What the implications are for that or whether it's reasonable to expect a British royal bloodline to remain *shudder* white is up for debate.

But the tweet is racist. How is that even a question? If the royal baby was 100% white then the exact same joke would make no sense.

You might say "I think people have the right to make racist jokes without being fired" but trying to frame this joke as being somehow racially benign is a little odd IMO.

p.s. It's also a little premature to assume the racial make-up of the baby until we know who the actual father is.

Now imagine if this lil Archie end up looking more like Nas?

You have to be blind to the fact a chimp isn't used as a racial insult towards black people. This guy says he isn't racist and didn't use it in that way. What BS. Poor foresight and ignorance.

TBH, I didn't know that Meghan Markle was black until I saw it in the news, and it's deja vu all over again every time it comes up because just enough time passes for me to forget her entirely.

Certain parts of the world are full of natural blonds who have that complexion, too, and in pictures she often looks lighter than some other pictures of born members of the royal family. It's entirely believable to me that he momentarily simply forgot she "race-identifies" as black.

That's not how we do things in Russia, comrade.
