After seeing this on FB, I immediately unliked and unfollowed NYT.
Why did it take you so long? Explain yourself!
In defense of El Padrone:
When the NYT's reporting is good, it's extremely good, and they often have good travel and food sections. Due to their bias, they do sometimes pick up on useful pieces of legitimate stories that others miss.
It's just this utter lunacy that they insist on not only publishing (fine, I can ignore it), but promoting in my feeds (now you're wasting my time). You unfollow, the disgust subsides after a few months, you think you can bang this leftist plate again after you see a decent article, then they publish something telling you that men need to learn to cry more or a short story about a man who is beside himself because he obliviously ignored emergency phone calls about his dying father for anonymous gay sex, and the cycle begins anew.
They could easily fix this if they wanted to, but there's a divorced, bipolar cat lady in Greenwich Village who is paying real money for her supply of Liberal Drama Outrage Porn.

Sadly Marche is typical of middle class, educated, white Canadian males who live in the bigger cities. Yes, really.
In defense of Stephen Marche:
His wife's chin is more prominent than his. Her test levels are through the roof. Being a typical blue pill chump, he mistakenly thought he would be the beneficiary of her libido, and instead ended up trained to hate himself for wanting to bang his own wife.
His constant meditations on gender and "male loneliness" - according to the Amazon 'Look Inside' tool, the synopsis of his book notes that they decided to give up his tenure-track job and prioritize her career, the introduction is entitled "How Much Should a Man Speak?", and the first chapter opens with a description of his wife demanding an iPad to send a work email
in the middle of the birth of their child while he meekly suggests that perhaps it should be a moment about them as a family - point to a textbook case of an unwanted failed provider, a placeholder male, trying to understand where things have gone so terribly wrong. It's all a vague, mealy-mouthed expression of his own cognitive dissonance, his awareness that something just isn't right about all of this, despite dutifully doing everything he was told.
Naturally, Marche has an advanced degree in Drama. Literally. He thrives on this shit. I submit that the article is an angry outburst over his realization that everybody is getting laid except him. He's lived a life in service to these ideas, only to find that even his liberal culture heroes would be happy to impregnate his wife, ghost her, and leave him to clean up the burning wreckage of his marriage just for shits and giggles. He is more frustrated with his benighted male experience than ever before. His beta rage is actually understandable, and he might even be dangerously close to a breakthrough - or a mass killing, I don't know.
