American Horror Story - Cult, exploits political climate

I caught the first episode of the new American Horror story season this weekend. Ads for the show have been all over the TV for a couple months now, showing eerie looking ceremonies performed by an evil clown cult. I went into it expecting some IT-like killer clown suspense and got hamfisted political hysteria instead.

The story starts on election night with a lesbian couple wailing in agony as Trump slides down the escalator, then cuts to a psychotic villain with long blue hair putting cheetos in a blender and painting his face orange, thrusting at his TV in celebration of Trump's vitory. The hysterical libs are freaking out, wondering how this could have happened. The answer soon reveals itself. A cult of evil clown trump supporters is killing all the good left wingers one by one. Our protagonist is a woman that is 'triggered' by all of this and starts seeing killer clowns everywhere while those around her are convinced that she is going insane.

The blue haired creepo is labeled a 4channer at one point, he pisses into a condom and throws it at a group of mexicans shortly afterward. The characterization of the right's victory as a psychotic cult of clowns is a bit insulting and is yet another indication that the entertainment industry is wildly out of touch with the population.

The reviews across the web are predictably divided across party lines:

Quote:Quote:

"It becomes obvious that the killer clowns are intended to represent the conservative Trump voters, reveling in the 'liberal tears' of the defeated 'snowflakes', while Ally and family are likewise caricatures of the oversensitive liberals who thrive on internet outrage culture. Because of this, [the] show is going to alienate people, and potentially lose fans, on both sides of the aisle.

Quote:Quote:

"It adds up to a confounding experience that, at best, is easily forgotten and at worst is offensive to all parties. Liberals aren't just snowflakes with imaginary fears, and the right isn't only made up of soulless fear-mongers. The politics of fear may work, but the twisted logic in this futile exercise falls apart quickly."

Quote:Quote:

"Give Cult credit for trying to connect with the current cultural mood, though it offers over-the-top stereotyping of both sides as well as spot-on insight. And even if the constant door-banging (what, no doorbells?) stops giving you the intended jitters, such horror-trope winks might still provide a laugh."

The new season is going to suck because of this political bullshit. There is no subtlety to it whatsoever. Still, it does give you an an amusing look into how these people think.

Hey, these guys are using my life story without paying me for the rights! Somebody put up a data sheet on how to contact a lawyer!

I wondered when new season of AHS will turn up here as a discussion theme, especially when I learned about its plot. While I generally agree with the OP and his assessment, I must say the following.

This was just a 1st episode and I think that it will have something maybe unpredictable in its sleeve. All these past seasons have something in common. First half of season is build up and then second half follows with something akin to plot twist or even a plot twist. In this case I think clows could turn out to be ghosts and main lesbo character echoing one of the characters she played in earlier seasons (Billie Dean?), i.e. one of the few that can see them without ghosts revealing themselves intentionally.
What I want to see (which will probably not happen) is that this season will reveal "meme magick" as a weapons used against Hillary supporters that helped Trump to win.

I had a similar reaction to the pilot episode. Instantly turned off by yet another hollywood Trump supporter bashing.

But having been a fan of the series (with the exception of a couple seasons) and knowing how they trick you into thinking the show is headed in a particular direction, and then turning into something completely unexpected.. I soldiered through a few more episodes.

Yeah, there's a lot of digs at Trump supporters. And there's digs at liberals. I wouldn't say it's a balanced scale, but you can't expect that from Hollywood.

Still, I'm starting to warm up to this season more than I thought I would. They're really digging into the nitty gritty mind-fucking that a charismatic cult leader is capable of.

If nothing else, it's interesting to see how a person with nothing but "game" can manipulate weak minded people (especially women) into doing whatever he wants.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I ditched my paid TV service years ago. They don't get a nickel of my money.

It sounds like this will be a very nuanced and subtle show.

I thought the first season was amazing. Then I quit watching TV.

David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage. 1 Samuel 18:27

Watched the first couple episodes last night. Found myself really enjoying it.

Amazing how the portrayal of the lesbian couple as over the top liberal snowflakes seemed extreme last year when the show was filmed but is shockingly accurate in today's political climate. And the clowns make me laugh.

This is easily the most fagged out degenerate show i've ever seen. I wish I could un-see all the shit i've seen in this show, be careful what you put into your brain, shows like this are pure brain-rot poison filled with propaganda and LGBTQBBQ initiation bullshit. Absolutely sickening with all the homosex and poz, this show is like a mind cancer, not fit for human consumption.

Its surprising to see this thread again. I've been watching a lot less TV lately, it fell into a daily ritual back when I was in an LTR. Every girl comes pre-bundled with a netflix account, that seems to show no sigh of stopping, many are adding hulu and amazon prime to the package. You'd think that some of them would experiment with hobbies outside of screen time and self-grooming. The less pretty ones could at least try to compensate for their looks by being a little interesting.

I never saw how that show ended, didn't really care after I became single. She used to whine a lot when I didn't spend my evening time with her on the couch. Nowadays most evenings are spent playing with my music toys, I have a pretty sweet synthesizer that is proving to be enjoyable. Sometimes I feel unmotivated and veg out in front of youtube, admittedly. Its hard to find some passive lazy amusement that isn't tainted by politics, guess we should get the hint and read a book.

Despite the awful last season, I really like the current season (despite degeneracy), it has some serious real life back stories much in line what are we discussing here. Jay Dyer had a great analysis of this season.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you're into gay snuff films. Basically, a group of LGBTBBQueers join a cult to murder a bunch of Trump supporters and random people, and in-between the Attacks of the Ass Clowns, they're butt-fucking and murdering each other, sometimes all at once. In one episode Lena Dunham plays psycho feminist cunt Valerie Solanas, "radical feminist and author best known for writing the SCUM Manifesto and attempting to murder artist Andy Warhol in 1968".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCUM_Manifesto
"published in 1967.[1][2] It argues that men have ruined the world, and that it is up to women to fix it. To achieve this goal, it suggests the formation of SCUM, an organization dedicated to overthrowing society and eliminating the male sex."
It also argues that women must replace the "money-work system" with a system of complete automation, as this will lead to the collapse of the government and the loss of men's power over women.[37]

In order to accomplish these goals, the Manifesto proposes that a revolutionary vanguard of women be formed. This vanguard is referred to as SCUM. The Manifesto argues that SCUM should employ sabotage and direct action tactics rather than civil disobedience, as civil disobedience is only useful for making small changes to society. In order to destroy the system, violent action is necessary: "If SCUM ever marches, it will be over the President's stupid, sickening face; if SCUM ever strikes, it will be in the dark with a six-inch blade."[38]

The Manifesto ends by describing a female-dominated utopian future with, eventually, no men. There would be no money, and disease and death would have been eliminated. It argues that men are irrational to defend the current system and should accept the necessity of their destruction.[39]

At least I learned something, sounds a lot like [current year] doesn't it? Maybe there's some value to knowing your enemy, or maybe you will get some humor in the depravity of it all, but I wouldn't suggest willingly ingesting poison for a laugh.

I had a hard time understanding if the premise of 'cult' was meant to be ironic or serious. That main lesbian getting 'triggered' in the beginning of the season felt like a comedic parody of a lefty person, like a character one of us would write. The goofiness took away from it being a horror story at all. I wanted the clowns to kill everyone.

Knowing the enemy is useful, we probably don't do enough of that. There is a lot reading material out there about black block activists, but so much of it is garbage. I don't know if we can get much utility out of the stuff in entertainment, it reveals people's thoughts and feelings but there's so much fantasizing. What I'd like to know about 'our enemies' is how they pick their riot targets, what kind of limits do they face in their ability to muster up these disruptions, how can we communicate/meet/campaign while avoiding their attacks, what if anything can be done to unravel them legally. Maybe we could trim their soldier count down by redpilling in specific areas before critical groups fall under the lefty demoralization spell. We have this demon Soros character but it cant only be him and regular people cant touch him anyway. Who is operating the middle management layer of these protest groups that start punching and throwing piss every time a few guys want to help each other learn game. I know one fat douche from my highschool days that helps doxx people, he brags about it often, surely he's part of a team because he's too dumb to do it all by himself.

'SJW's Always Lie', 'Dangerous', 'Free speech Isn't Free' are all semi-informative about 'them' but they mostly just tell us what they're doing and it would be very interesting to see more about how they do it.

This may end up being stream-of-consciousness.

I have always been a fan of the horror genre, especially anything released in the slasher heyday where you had Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and the Friday the 13th series all coming out at the same time. (Some of these movies are great and some are terrible. For me, just watching something subversive and oohing and aahing at well-done gore effects was the point. Many of these movies were definitely fucked up and degenerate - but that was part of the appeal.)

There's always been a line I couldn't cross, though, and that was anything that lingered pornographically over suffering. For this reason, I strongly disliked the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that infamous 1932 film Freaks, and anything out of that "torture porn" craze that was huge in the early oughts.

This show seemed decent enough at first but I strongly disliked Season 1 and what I saw of 2 before I walked away in disgust. Why does every season have a few fag characters? Maybe you could try a little harder to bash the Catholic church instead of semi-sexually (overtly, too) portraying the nuns as sadistic evil people? And of course both seasons were loaded with sex scenes that were just there. (Oh, Friday the 13th was loaded with needless sex too, but the movie knew it was trash and giving the audience what it came for. In AHS it almost seemed like they thought the sex made it a more fleshed-out show.)

I am glad I stopped watching when I did. It looks like a recent season was inspired by that Freaks film I mentioned earlier. I could barely stomach that kind of premise when done in 1932, can't imagine it today with torture porn overtones and an SJW message.

This Cult season just looks like it would make me karate kick my TV. I'll just rewatch the gory classics I already have.

I've watched the entire season. It's not as overtly left-wing as you might think. Portrays plenty of people on both sides behaving like lunatics. It becomes obvious toward the end which side the writers are on (as if you didn't already know), but doesn't reek of propaganda/brainwashing as much as a lot of shows and movies that delve into politics.

In general, it's not a recipe for happiness to refuse to let yourself enjoy something unless it's 'on our side.'
