What is happening in Burma?

There's been a tonne of media coverage in Australia criticising the Burmese government over its treatment of Muslims. Other less mainstream sources say the Muslims there are illegal immigrants and terrorists?
What is the truth, and why is it suddenly getting focus? Burma/Myanmar doesn't have any oil. Burma does have oil and natural gas to liberate.

I would say South East Asian regimes tend to view anyone who isn't Buddhist at best suspicious and un-Thai un-Lao un-Khmer or un-Burmese at worst traitors to be culled : the SLORC regime in Burma was infamous in the 90's for killing the Mon people or any other tribe who lived along the route of their pipeline.

The coverage ramped up a few weeks ago here in the US. Now there are people pushing to take back Aung San Su Kyi's Nobel Peace Prize.
If only you knew how bad things really are.

Aung Sun Kyi used to be the world's darling fighting dictatorship and patriarchy somewhere in the Far East, but now that she's stepped on Muslim toes she's learned her lesson: that there is always a bigger victim.

People don't give a fuck because when Buddhists have had enough of your shit and decide its high time the Islamic community as a whole must be punished for the actions they did not stop from their more active members its really saying something.
They don't understand talking, discussion or open debate because they are too stupid to understand allowing the most vicious fucks in their ranks to do as they please might just piss people off.
Get rid of the problem community means you get rid of the problem entirely. Where are these sacks of shit going to hide when carrying out and planning more attacks on military and civilian targets? Christian, Hindu or Buddhist communities?
I won't condone the vicious violence being directed at innocents but you cannot control human emotion when you have been dealing with it for many years and nothing is done except some skirmishes and crackdowns. People have had enough and want them gone.

A lot of what has been said in the MSM about Burma is utter bollocks.
Here are three good sources that I came across which explains the situation very clearly.

Okay for the terrorists among them that are financed. However, what about the 95%+ of them that are indeed sent on the road and killed?
For what I saw they only want to settle and work, not emigrate.

UN will make sure every country is forced to keep their muslims. All the usual media propagandas have already put it at the top of their list. Either that or they'll demand Trump drop them in the Midwest. Which he'll quietly allow in some sort of announcement on a Friday afternoon. Then everyone will rationalize 'well he needs to allow the muslim refugees so he can get the wall, it's a good deal long-term!'.

You have to distinguish countries with native muslim minorities like Burma or the Philippines from the situation in the West, where all muslims are emigrants, and look at the bigger geopolitical picture. Traktor's links and Komatiite's Zerohedge article go deeper into this and summarize the situation pretty well:

The ongoing crisis in Myanmar including tensions between Buddhist and Muslim communities and the military crackdown by Myanmar Army and police seems to be a multidimensional crisis with major geopolitical players involved according to a report by Sputnik International.
As per the report Dmitry Mosyakov, director of the Centre for Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told RT that the conflict “was apparently fanned by external global players” and “has at least three dimensions”.
“First, this is a game against China, as China has very large investments in Arakan [Rakhine],” Mosyakov told RT.
“Second, it is aimed at fuelling Muslim extremism in Southeast Asia….
Third, it’s the attempt to sow discord within ASEAN [between Myanmar and Muslim-dominated Indonesia and Malaysia].”

The key is to understand third world thinking. Extreme actual forms of racism today are always in the largest amounts non whites against other non whites. Zero sum mentality. Why not discriminate and fuck other those guys over there, the boot has to be on someones foot, why not mine? Thats the line of thinking over there.

Patrick Henningsen covered Myanmar in the last Sunday Wire podcast.
His Irish reporter guest presents a good perspective on the dynamics in Myanmar, which have a lot of similarities with Yugoslavia and Syria, and many of the same actors (Saudi salafi funding, Soros NGOs etc):

Burma part starts around 33:00 mark. It is followed by a good summary on Syria by Vanessa Beeley.
