I have no idea what happened here but I do know two things for certain: whatever the government reports and media reports say... There is more to this story and we'll never hear the honest truth.

What I want to know is how the government linked Cazes' Paypal receipt, which does not contain any reference to his forum handle, to his actual forum handle.

Given what he was posting, and in which threads, I don't think it's too hard to make that connection.

^Yep.

Paypal would probably give a reliable IP trace that was hard data on who he was. They probably figured it out without it based on his profile and staking out on the forum. How many U.S. expats in Thailand are there, really? That already cuts down the search to a limited geography and manageable search very well. If he's bragging about swooping girls and dropping money at a young age, that's damn near the perfect profile to mark as a possibility.

Then they just needed something that would hold up in court. IP records may have just been that. Proof that we wasn't just a big baller troll. I'm not sure if those are something they have access to already or if it requires a subpoena.

"Ok, this forum member seems to be the AlphaBay guy based on XXX and XXX but he always goes through Tor."
"Oh, look. Here's an IP address from when someone bought him gold!"
"Yeah that's a Thai IP"
"Looks like that IP is going to some interesting places that our target is as well"
"We've got him, let's write up a report and send it to the Thai government"

Aren't Thais notoriously brutal to drug offenders? Probably one of the worst places in the world to be if you're involved with it.

The dude was White and loaded with cash (millions of dollars): forget lovely exotic lands or sexy vodka-dievushka territories, he should have gone to Argentina (and good luck finding him, good luck motivating the local police forces, too).

By going to exotic Thailand, where he would forever remain an outsider (a farang, even though he learned the language), he made an amateur, not travel-savvy, mistake.

Reminds me of the Ukrainian arms-dealing dude that was made into a movie with Nicholas Cage, and got arrested in Thailand, then was the subject of a fierce legal battle between the US and Russia as to who would get extradition... another White dude who thought he would be safe with his millions in Thailand...

Both of them fell for a nice exotic mirage, whereas, being Whites and uber-rich, they should have moved to Argentina: who would have found them in the GBA (especially if he had given half a million to the Campora, but actually, it would not even be necessary)? I mean, to find someone (rich and White) in Argentina, you'd need 2 years of hard work by an entire Mossad cell (and mind you, Eichmann was rather poor, if he had been rich, they wouldn't have found him for ten more years; by the way, Eichmann was spotted because his young son dated an Argentinian girl and "boasted" to her his father's -repugnant- past, but turns out this girl was Jewish: ach, grosse mistake).

I'm not sure it's safe to call this guy a "drug lord" - he was running a laissez faire ebay.

I really would rather live in a world that thing was allowed to exist, then live in the police statey one we have now.

AlphaBay was to eBay as Backpage is to Craigslist. Yeah, you can supposedly find mundane things for sale on both, but the first is really for buying illegal shit, and the second is really for finding escorts.

Although I agree with Roosh that P4P is not acceptable for discussion on RVF, and not recommended for the forum members, I definitely think Backpage and P4P should be legal.

Likewise, I think pot should be legal. However, I think a lot of things being sold on AlphaBay, like Fentanyl, are extremely deadly, and they should be restricted. Also, as I understand it, people were selling stolen credit card numbers and day one security breaches. Some of the people selling this shit need to be dragged off and shot.

So, I do think that it was wrong for Alphabay to knowingly enable commerce in these areas, and while the administrator was not technically a drug lord, the reason he was raking in millions a year was because he was facilitating illegal drug sales. That's pretty close.

The US doesn't need an extradition treaty to get you. There are plenty of cases where the US pressured Vietnam to deport US fugitives with little effort.

Hence why marrying a local is essential, and being close to other countries with no US extradition. Russia has Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine next its borders. Marry a devushka, get RUS passport, visa free travel to those countries.

A lot of BFE African countries in the list, get lost in the jungle or invest in Namibia like this guy did for years:

At the end, there's still a chance...but a lesser chance. As Jay Z said, "I got 5 passports, I’m never going to jail".

They can get you either way, there is no place you can hide if they really want you.

I don't understand why he joined a forum and why the need for 4 lambos in a place like Thailand.
Driving around Thailand in a lambo would have people looking into his business and asking questions.

If you are doing illegal activities then you should know to stay of the grid and be incognito.

I guess, they figured what day and approximate time a Gold Member symbol appeared next to this now-deceased person's forum alias.

Then they spied (subpoenaed? hacked?) on Paypal to see who had sent money to RVF at the approximate same time and day (that the gold member status appeared). Thus they linked Cazes' forum alias with his real name (as registered in paypal).

Which means they were watching his posts on a more or less daily basis, like hawks.

I can clearly remember when that guy bragged about his Porsche and many people questioned him. As for the video, I haven't seen it yet.

It's really unfortunate how it ended for him. But wow the guy truly seized the day. He probably came up with the grand scheme in his late teens. Unfortunately as he was almost literally printing money, what were the odds he would one day sit back at 65 years old and enjoy it all.

I wonder if he developed a grand scheme, or if he just thought he'd start a small Tor based darknet site that accepted Bitcoin payments, and then had it balloon larger than he ever imagined. When he started making $10,000/month, he probably thought he had hit the mother load. Then it got 100 times bigger.

I think this is one of those cases where you find yourself riding the tiger, but there's no way to get off.

Unexplained affluence and the need to flaunt wealth trips up another guy. There is no need whatsoever to flaunt wealth. Keep it modest and close to the chest. Octavian Caesar, one of the richest and most powerful men to have ever lived emphasized an extremely modest, ascetic lifestyle.

There is certainly a way to get off. As soon as you've got "set for life" money, distance yourself from the operation a go someplace beyond the reach of your enemies.

I was just going to say. Its really easy to find info about people with relatively little info. If they knew where he lived, they could easily just narrow it down. Or they might have even crawled the forum looking for certain info.

Sometimes when Im messing with a tinder, i look up girls I have very little info just to see from recent pics if there not fat or not. Its surprising easy to find them with very little info.
