The Be-right-back (brb) Thread

A 'stop me before I do something stupid- thread' or something clever that'd make more sense. 'Mod- yourself' if you will. Or be-right-back (brb) ??

Where one can volunteer or commit that they think they can't handle their act for a certain period of time and thus won't post.

At times I regret my comments and then think I won't post now but before I know it I've posted in a newbie thread.

This could put an end to the 'delete' edits. Or track those delete edits in this thread.

This could be used to find out why users leave as they'd recorded it here. Case in point, g manifesto, but my reason is more focused towards newbies.

This could be used to practice self control. Or control rapidly increasing number of posts.

Am I alone in this? This could be yet another regretted comment. [Image: confused.gif] eh no ragrets

PS: I think default home country should be changed to undisclosed as well.

It's Thursday 12:40am here and I pledge to post nothing before Sunday.
(So don't ask any questions)

So this is an outlet for not posting in haste? And a place to announce a hiatus?
If one was triggered should he quote the post that's making him cautious?

Yes you are. This is a asinine/weird idea for a thread.

If a vet poster is leaving he's going to make his own thread not dig up this one.

Yes you are. This is a asinine great idea for a thread.

Fixed it for you.

Not. ^^^ This is what I would've done if I hadn't practised self control for three days.
But now I can fully understand your point of view. And you have convinced me to not have any hope for this thread. I thank you for opening my eyes towards my stupidity. I stand corrected.

Till next Sunday. Tally ho.

Huh?
I like the idea but what's going on here?

Edit - OP is going away for another week but isn't that going round in circles?
Mayhem this shouldn't be the thread that makes you take a break. Maybe some of the posters who replied to you don't yet get it. Can't it be another thread that leads to all the BRBs? Ground rule?
In this thread can't we just follow the trail of the cause of BRB?

PS - I still believe in your thread.

(Again, this was just an idea.)

But man since you took the time to ask all these good questions, I can't leave you hanging for a week.

I think this thread will only take off if a vetted member sees any potential here, but I'm going to link it in my signature anyway as:
Take a break

Yes. All the questions you've asked so far sum up the ground rules.

• This is an outlet for not posting in haste.
• And a place to announce a hiatus.
• If one was triggered he should quote the post that's making him cautious.
• This is a thread that leads to all the BRBs.
• In this thread we just follow the trail of the cause of BRB, so keep it short.
• Additionally, it can be used to track your delete edits as well, so that they actually get deleted.
• (Optional) You're free to add any other rules to steer this thread into the right direction.
• (Important) Do mention your time of return and don't go away for more than a week unless necessary.

^Nice.
I'll add - how about announcing a hiatus solely for self-discipline purposes and to hold oneself accountable e.g. "I'm writing exams this week. Will be back in 7 days".
That way it's patently obvious if you break this vow.
Edit- how about keeping the decision as contemporaneous as possible. Keeping it current and relevant. This won't be a thread where a poster looks around to find situations or posts in threads that would have, or now make him decide to BRB. It's not a retrospective thread. When that "thing" happens, that's when you check into this thread and find the outlet. This thread is about authenticity. How about that.

Carry on.

I apologize for my previous response. (An example of a post made in haste.)

The issue at hand is to record all hiatus announcements in one place. A quick search of 'be right back' and this thread will show up.
(Select search titles only)

But in case one is leaving to not never come back then that would merits it's own thread. This thread will still be an option.

So I am taking a short break, as I intend to compile a multiple book review, to post here when I return. I can't say how long the break needs to be, but I'm intending to come back with the review and add value, approximately at a time coinciding with my 3rd year of membership here.
This is my last post for quite a while.

BRB!!
