I've been to Thailand, but not the Philippines. Both countries boast some of the friendliest most welcoming people in the world, I'm going off what everyone has said about the Philippines. I think though that as far as touring goes, Thailand has much more to see, so I would recommend going there if you have the choice. As for the women, you'll find hotties in Thailand for sure. The more affluent the area, the more hot the women, but obviously as you move up in wealth there, the less they'll be impressed with you being a rich westerner.

Lemme know if you have any specific questions.

Hi grimytraveler,

I have been to both Thailand and P.I. and I will share a few things with you. First off, let me start off by saying that I visited both places while stationed onboard a U.S. Navy vessel, so my experience (but not so much perspective) is slightly limited because of the small amount of time I spent there.

P.I. -

Of all places I've been to in the Phillipines I would definitely recommend Palawan Island to you. The women are beautiful, and the main city Puerto Princessa has been touted as the cleanest city in all of P.I. Also very cheap. If I remember correctly I shopped at a local grocery store and bought 2 fifths of rum, 2 one liter bottles of Coke, a pack of Marlboro cigarettes, and a bag of chips for under 5 dollars.

It is a must to visit the Subterranean River National Park where you can take a boat tour of an 9km underground river that spits you right out into the South China Sea. I think I read that it is the second largest underground river in the world and on made the voting list for the "new" wonders of the world. The landscape in P.I. is gorgeous and peaceful, but only once you get outside of the city.

The people of Palawan go to great lengths to observe and preserve nature. You can pay a tricycle driver about 10 USD for the entire day and he'll drive you around the island to visit crocodile farms, butterfly farms, and many of the other "off the beaten path" attractions.

I've been to many places and I'd bank on the fact that the people of the Phillipines have a better attitude and overall outlook on life than anywhere else in the world. They are very happy people and make the most of what they have in life. I was very impressed with that.

It's really hard for me to get into the whole strategy of getting legit women here because, again, I had a limited amount of time here. I will just say that because of the scarce of economical opportunity and upward mobility, the majority of the beautiful women in P.I. are working somewhere in a restaurant or a "buy me and take me home" kind of bar. That's just the reality of it. They use what they were born with.

I'm sure if you had an extended stay there you'd be able to find quality women who have real jobs and are more respectable.

Women here = All shapes and sizes, Great Attitudes, Fun

Pattaya, Thailand -

They call Pattaya the city of smiles and 10 minutes on the street and you'll figure out why. Everyone is always smiling and for good reason. Everything that can be imagined can be done in Thailand, and Pattaya is a perfect playing field. The only danger that you need to beware of in the case of women, is to watch out for the lady-boys. Most of the time, while it's hard to admit that it's difficult to judge between real and fake, they have no problem with telling you the truth if you ask. Even the one's who are for-real women won't be offended when you ask just to make sure.

The thing about Pattaya is that there are a plether of real estate investors who have their hands dipped in the pot here. Many people had/have big ambitions of renting out condos and time shares and etc. and so you can definitely take advantage of the pricing on this. I can say that without a doubt if you go there outside of peak season (November to May I believe) you can rent an extremely ballin' condo on the beach within close proximity to the city for roughly $USD350 a week. The clubs in Pattaya are very upbeat and as an American you almost felt like a celeb walking through. Everyone wanted to "chink" bottles with you or toast you. People come to Pattaya to party and there's definitely plenty of room to do so. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Now is the time to go before the price of everything goes up as I am hearing that they are planning to build a supermall there which will boost their tourism to an even larger level. People have told me that in 5-10 years the city has already grown to an unrecognizable state.

The women are all over you. It's amazing. The thing to realize here is that to a Thai woman, time = money. So there's no way you will "scoop up a honey" without shelling out some cash. If you do, god help you because you'll probably wind up marrying her instead. It is just a realization that everyone who spends time in Southeast Asia must come to. There are women out there who you could game who have respectable jobs and career goals, but they've seen so many tourists come through that they'd never go for an outsider unless he had a future to offer.

Maybe someone can give more insight on this one to me if you've done it. I know that as an American sailor I have been pigeonholed into that category of everyone else who's been through there and that is the demise that I will suffer for the rest of my time over here. All I really can do about it is to try as hard as possible to peer through the fog. Hope some of this helps and like speakeasy said, let me know if you have specific questions.

Good writeup Tyler, but I wouldn't personally recommend anyone going to Pattaya, Thailand. The place is known as one big whorehouse and from everything I hear, there's almost nothing Thai about the place with McDonalds and subway, American looking shopping centers. If you just want to get hookers and lay on the beach and eat Big Macs, then I guess that's your place, head to Pattaya. But then you can get hookers pretty much anywhere in Thailand and in places with much nicer beaches.

For beaches, I went to Krabi, which is a bit further south than Phucket. It's not so Americanized and beaches are almost otherworldly with huge limestone cliffs rising sharply out of the water and nearly white sand beaches.

You'll definitely want to spend time in Bangkok, there's a lot to see as far as world heritage sites and culture. I would go to a regular club that locals go to, particularly middle-upper class locals and just try to meet some girls the normal way. The bed supper club was always a popular spot withe see-and-bee-seen Thai crowd. It might be post it's prime though at this point and there's probably newer hotspots.

A lot of people also rave about Chang Mai in the north part of Thailand if you want a more authentic, quaint Thai experience where you can see lots of old architecture and temples and see elephants in the jungle.

There's plenty to see and experience in the whole country, but I would advise you to stay away from Pattaya unless you want to be somewhere very touristy and Americanized.

I always heard there was a whole lot more to Thailand than Pattaya and I knew it to be true but no one around me seemed to be able to tell me where they recommended I go. This seems like some solid advice you give though and I'll have to do some researching as I plan on going on a small vacation soon somewhere in SE Asia.

I've flipped through numerous travel books and it's hard to buy into words and pictures. It's good to hear from "real" people if you know what I mean.

Thailand - one of my favorite countries ever.

It isn't necessary to go to prostitutes to have sex with Thai women -
but it is absolutely necessary to pay the Thai women,
unless you are living permanently in Thailand & want a Thai girlfriend.

There are so many tourists going thru Thailand that the Thai
women always know what they are about.

The Thai attitude towards prostitution is a bit different than the Western attitude -
it isn't stigmatized in the same way. A Thai village girl can go to the city and
work for a few years to make some money, return home & marry her chilhood
sweetheart without having to hide the fact that she was a prostitute.

Many Thai women working in industries related to tourism (waitresses,
tour guides, ... ) are open to having sex with clients on the side for a little money.
The difference between these women and bar girls, strip club workers, hookers in Pattaya,
is that they also do other things for money, and so aren't seeing 10 customers every day.

If you're a single man coming into Thailand for the first time, I recommend renting a motorcycle
& an attractive female guide who speaks your language relatively well. You negotiate her total
fee for the tour. She travels with you, translates for you, takes you to places you'd never find
without her, gets you better deals than you'd get on your own when you go shopping
(which will still be more than the locals would pay, but cheap) ...
and you get to have sex with her every day for the duration of the tour ...

Be safe, always use protection.

I went to Thailand with a Thai buddy of mine. We sort of made buddies with the bellhop at the hotel as we were coming in and out everyday. He invited us to hang out. This was cool, because it was a chance to hang with some locals and go to the places they go. So we went Soi Cowboy first just to have some beers and watch the strippers. Then my Thai buddy decided to go get himself a hooker and do his thing for the rest of the night. I hung with the bellhop. We met up with some of his friends at a restaurant and had some beers, and then went to another place. There was a girl with them. She was Laotian and kind of cute. She didn't speak a lot of English, but she could have a little conversation, she told me she was single and she doens't have a boyfriend because she wants her freedom. I told her about my plans to head down to the S. of Thailand to the beach in a couple days. She said, "take me". I thought she was joking at first, but she wasn't. I said, maybe I would. She didn't have a cellphone, so the bellhop gave me his and said to call him if I want to take her with me. At this point, I didn't know if he was pimping her out and I had to pay him the money or what the deal is. It's a whole different culture down with different attitudes toward sex and prostitutions like Rael said. I took his number but decided not to call to bring her. I was going down to S. Thailand for 10 days and didn't want to be stuck with her that long, and where we were going, I was expecting there to be a lot of Australian girls looking to party so figured I'd be meeting some chics along the way. Well, there weren't too many girls down there, I didn't come up on anything. Mostly non-english speaking Euro girls, and they seemed aloof and stuckup as opposed to the always outgoing Aussie chics. I ended up kicking myself for not bringing the Laotian chic along. That could've made my trip having a girl to bang right there by the beach in tropical paradise. Biggest mistake I ever made traveling.

Don't even know if she was a prostitute per se in the traditional sense. Like most people there, she probably makes very little money and things like going to a beach resort vacation, even in their own country would be like a rich guy offering a woman here to fly her to Monaco for a week and splurge.

You do have to choose - if you want to bang fellow tourists/travelers
then getting a local "guide" is out.

But honestly, would you go to Thailand with the intention of only
eating at McDonald's while you're there?

Hey Rael, this is awesome advice....

I have an upcoming work project in Malaysia and what's looking to be about 10 days to explore Thailand before I need to be back in this hemispshere... and I think this is exactly how I'm going to spend it. What a great goddam idea. I call that a vacation.

Cheers to you Rael... Muchas Gracias Amigo.

^^^ Better bring a nuclear strength condom though. HIV is a well known problem in Thailand because of the international sex industry.

Don't have to worry about that if she's the swallowing type.

I am in Thailand around once a month for a week or two and I go to the Philippines a few times a year, mostly to gamble in Cebu

Pattaya is pretty much your basic Southeast Asian tourist beach town – lots of Touts and lots of gals. If you go there get a hotel in the “walking street” area if you want to be in the middle of the action.

Bangkok is a great city with a bit for everyone and every budjet. They have cheap bars where you can hang out all day long for 20 bucks and kick ass night clubs whre you can lay down a grand every night.

I didn’t like the Philippines until recently, when I went there back in the late 90’s I thought it was a bit of dump with far too much street crime. But a friend of mine invited me to hang out with him in Cebu a few years ago – and I am way glad that he did. Cebu is sort of like the Hawaii of the Philippines, great beaches, ok surfing, lots of bars and a casino.

Exactly what do you want to know?

I travelled phuket

I wouldn't do the motorcycle part unless you are experienced. I had a crash and it was not good. Police are corrupt and the cycle renter will try and take you for as much as they can. You need to make sure all your licenses are in order - but they'll still invent something. The crash will always be your fault. Helmets are very rudimentary there and roads are bad.

I am not interested in prostitution, because (for one) I don't like to have to deal with an experienced person whose major goal is to extract as much cash from you as possible. That said it is established there, and may be more safe to wheel and deal because it is so common for men to do that. You have to watch out all the time for your valuables etc. Also frankly if you look at burmas HIV rates and the way girls are trafficed across, you could be playing with fire because condoms are not failsafe. THere is also underage prostitution and legal sanctions back in your country, and you could be up for all kinds of extortion, or indeed being locked up, if on one day some police chief decides to take you to the bank.

I know that for me, I'd rather have a good time doing the plain old swimming, lounging, and eating.

It's a Good thing hearing about Cebu since i'm Filipino and haven't been there in ages.

Pretty much anywhere outside Manila is great if you know where you're looking.

Yeah man! I wanna go Thailand too. God Damn they've got beautiful beaches.

Just stay away from the prostitutes unless you're into them...hehe!

How distiguish the Hot Local Girls to the Prostitute? I know, dumb question but I'm curious anyway.

She's less likely to be a prostitute (ie interested in financial gain) if she's actually doing something with her life. My friend dated a doctor and a head mistress when he was out there.

However my other friend married a prostitute who lives here with him. She was probably more attractive in Pattaya when he was off his head with yaba. And worryingly her thai accent and broken english is starting to get annoying. So much so that I don't see my friend anymore.
Anyway, I've seen some attractive western looking women from the far east but nothing compared to the lure of Europe and SA. Just a personal preference I guess. Although I whole heartedly agree with the previous posts about the natural beauty over there.
