But still want the same body and presence/vibe that athletes, ex-athletes give off, how would you go developing something like that? A lot of college athletes don't play the chosen sports after college, few actually make a professional career out of it. Would simply exercising individually develop the same fortitude, presence and body?
What if you didnt play highschool or college sports?

I've said on here on all of the workout threads...workout like an athlete rather than a weightlifter.
This thread doesnt make much sense imo.
You wanna look like / be an athlete without actually being an athlete correct?
Well, number one START WORKING OUT. Number two start acting like athletes. Number three start dressing like athletes.

Do MMA, Muay Thai, or Boxing.
When you know you can throw down, you start walking and acting differently.

Athletes are not the epitome of cool. I played football with tons of lame ass dudes that just looked cool on the field. But to answer your questions directly, just work out. Like somebody else said, do a lot of cardio like biking or running and actually get out and play pick up basketball games and flag football. Just be active and hit the weights at least 2 or 3 times a week. Youll look like an athlete after that.
