Why Do Foreign Women Have Softer, Higher-Pitched Voices?

Anyone who's left the English-speaking world will attest to this - young women overseas almost unanimously speak in soft, pleasant, high-pitched voices.

Coming back to North America I notice the younger birds come in two variants:

(1) ditzes who engage in shrill "OMG like he was like and she was like" Valley Girl hyperspeak

(2) smart girls who speak in a flat husky monotone

Neither gets me turned on.

Why is this? Is the more softer, more feminine vocal tone of European, Latin and Asian women in line it with their greater femininity and pleasant disposition? Is if culturally ingrained? Is it a function of the native languages these women speak? (ie. French being a softer, less harsh-sounding language than English)

A woman's voice is a big turn-on, and vocal tonality is a fairly strong guage of a woman's personality and disposition.

In Europe all the women seemed to have beautiful, soothing voices, but returning to North America was a shock as seldom do I come across a woman with a truly pleasant voice.

Testosterone.

Something about being raised in Western environments must raise their testosterone levels. I noticed this in Denmark as well.

It's the hormones they pump into cattle, milk and cheese products.

Same reason girls are developing so much younger these days.

Any studies showing that? References?

I don't disagree, I've just never heard that and would love to see a reference.

It's from the internet so take it for what it's worth.

Hormones: Here's the Beef Environmental concerns reemerge over steroids given to livestock

These observations indicate that wild fish "are being nailed by polluting hormones," Guillette told Science News—with males becoming somewhat feminized and females somewhat masculinized.

Like that study would ever be green-lighted:

"Hello, I would like to do a study comparing testosterone levels of American women with that of other countries to see why the former is so masculine with deep voices."

It's more of a habit than anything else. Most British girls/women I've heard speak with very high voices...does their beef contain less hormones than e.g. German beef ? I don't think so.

American English is generally spoken in a deeper voice than British English and most other languages.

The tone of a woman's voice is something I pay much closer attention to now, than when I was younger.

Nowadays the girls with very soft, sweet voices always seem to turn me on a lot more and get me more interested. I had a few past girlfriends whose really feminine voices I liked so much I'd actually stay on the phone with them a bit longer just to listen to them speak.

High pitched voices also get me going if you are pounding a girl and she really starts squealing.

Japanese girls are great for both of these categories.

I think about this a lot because a lady's voice is one of my biggest turn-ons, and something I really notice.

Here's some reasons I can think of:
- Estrogen/testosterone levels = Women are less feminine nowadays from a hormonal balance perspective.
- Herd mentality = Girls are sponges soaking up their friend's bad habits, so if they see all their female friends thinking that it's cool to talk with corny hip hop slangs and ghettoisms, then they are going to be copy-cats.
- Pop-culture = Look at the role models for women these days, being butch is cool, being feminine is not.
- Culture = Feminism is no longer a minority group or a sub-culture, it's gone mainstream and it spread like a plague, so now the average plain-Jane is encouraged to act like a man.
- Graceful intonation & nuance = Voice and sound is powerful tool women can use to express and emphasise their beauty and class. This is exactly why actors/actresses focus so much on vocal training. Most anglosphere women have never even thought about how revolting they actually sound.
- Volume = I'm a non-American who used to work the front-desk of an international hotel, witnessing behaviours from quite a wide sample size. I notice most Americans normal speaking volume is at a higher decibel than most of the rest of the world, except for maybe Brazilians. Therefore if you're talking about American girls, all the aforementioned points are being amplified at a louder volume.

Dude I've seen some rough, vulgar foreign women...

Often the soft feminine thing is just put on. It's a cultural norm they adhere to. In cultures that value innocence, femininity etc in girls they have to be like that, or they're getting nothing.

But put them in a group of platonic friends and you'll see another side lol.

I've seen some hilarious interactions over the years

The problem with all such conclusions is that "normal" range of T-levels for people - male and female, younger or older - is very wide.

And thus, while the assumed conclusion (ie, a direct causal relation of T-levels and masculinization of the voice) might be useful, the actual scientifically measured findings are not.

Perhaps equally important is what Alexis de Tocqueville noticed among American females in the 1840s: females do male work, normally. In Europe, they do not.

Thus, the frontier experience and heritage might be better sourced.

I think the answer to this is pretty simple - women are just adhering to the cultural norms of where they live. They are herd animals.

In the Anglosphere, women are constantly encouraged by the popular media and social media etc. to be aggressive and dominant, and speaking with a harsh, deep voice (as opposed to a pleasant high pitched voice) is involved with this.

Same in Quebec compared to France...and then in France itself Parisians have a much more dominant tone than say girls from Lyon.
