Big difference between OP's question as posed versus the context of the video.

The viewers are already in on the shaving cream joke, because of a Tonight Show episode from 1974:

I don't see this particular situation as "public humiliation". The show is geared to garner laughs and viewership. Burt (Reynolds) likely told Field to break Johnny's balls with the shaving cream, by default making her "in" on the joke and instantly likable.

Side Note: Starts at 0:55, Field's reaction to Cohen on "Watch What Happens" when he brings up that Carson's lawyer revealed in a tell all book that Field and Carson dated..

Then the hens from the View bring up the Cohen interview (at 1:41)..
