Starbucks's coffee isn't even that good. Was it ever? Even poorly percolated Folgers will taste passable if all creamed and sugared up...

Starbucks has close to double the caffeine of Dunkin Donuts.

That would be the rational explanation, I think the real reason is dropping 5 bucks on a mediocre 1000 calorie coffee drink is a status symbol and one of the "female herd mentality" items we have a thread on.

I also think Starbucks has a hand in the obesity epidemic. Personally if I'm consuming the amount of calories via liquid one of their drinks has I better be drunk as a result, and I don't drink like that more than once or twice a month.

Sounds like the Reconquista spirit hasn't completely died in Iberia!

I said this before on this forum and I'll say it again, we will see central and northern Europeans migrating to the Iberian Peninsula to escape the caliphate as it will be one of the last remaining places in western Europe not completely infested with the muslim plague.

And yet - Spain has the lowest support for a complete Muslim immigration ban in Europe:

A sad state of affairs that their once Proud heritage and pride has been corrododed corroded by successive socialist cuckery since the eighties, their education also finds itself at lamentable levels these days...

When virtue signalling goes wrong...

Starbucks' brand has taken a beating since the company announced plans to hire 10,000 refugees worldwide in the next five years in response to Donald Trump's executive order intended to prevent refugees from entering the US.

The coffee giant's consumer perception levels have fallen by two-thirds since late January, according to YouGov BrandIndex.

The perception tracker measures if respondents have "heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative." In Starbucks' case, perception is still overall positive, but significantly lower than it was prior to CEO Howard Schultz published a public letter outlining the company's plans to give refugees jobs.

Did that they think that the Trump victory was a fluke?

Heck - even sane Bernie supporters probably did not support that move, because why should refugees get preferantial treatment to them? The economy is not doing great and this migrant-cucking is simply a PR desaster. Guess Starbucks bit into the shit-sandwich thinking that it would give them brownie points. Well done - I am boycotting Starbucks anyway now despite the fact that I led a few girls into those plush seats once.

I don't care, Starbucks are oases of comfort, air conditioning, and caffeine in places like Cairo, Bangkok and Manila. They always have the local English newspapers, too.

Schultz and Starbucks donate to veterans' charities and hire veterans. I remain a regular customer. Venti black coffee in the morning, tea latte in the afternoon.

^ Come on, dude. I haven't been to Cairo, but both Bangkok and Manila are brimming with high-end malls and comfortable, air conditioned coffee shops, from small, independent locations and local chains to other American chains, like Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

Calling Starbucks an "oasis" is a huge stretch, especially considering they're constantly packed and they serve some of the worst coffee you can find in either city.

While I've never been to Thailand, I've been in precisely the situation I described above in both Cairo and Shanghai. A BigMac and Americano never tasted so good.

An Americano is literally espresso and hot water. It's one of the easiest drinks you could possibly make and served at pretty much every coffee shop on Earth.

If you just want to eat McDonald's and drink Starbucks, have at it, but acting like cities like Bangkok, Manila, Shanghai, etc. are some kind of shanty towns with no AC anywhere and nothing but street stalls to eat at is absurd.

Bangkok can compete with most of the major US cities in terms of food options.

Look, before we get in a fight here, let me just say that I love travelling to new places and trying out the local cuisine. I can't eat at Chinese restaurants anymore in the USA because after going to China because it's just not the same. It's always a treat for me when I'm hanging out with someone who is ethnically Chinese and fluent in Mandarin who can order off the "secret" menu on the wall written only in Chinese characters. But evnr then, it's still not the same.

My point was that, while American Multinationals can be bland and homogenized, when it comes to food safety they are unbeatable. Hate McDonald's all you want, but they introduced high level cleanliness and sanitation to the restaurant industry not just in the US but worldwide. When you're violently ill because you went a curry too far and everything is coming out both sluces, you become desperate for food that you know is as close to 100% safe as possible. McDonald's and Starbucks provide that guarantee like no one else on earth.

I fear that my little quip may be taking this thread off the rails.

I'm just going to say that I am deeply disappointed by the behavior of many "new age" corporations in the current political climate, especially (but not limited to) Starbucks and Google. Starbucks has worked harder than any other company probably in all of history to be a good corporate neighbor and citizen, including providing health insurance to its US workforce, trying as hard as possible to treat the farmers in the 3rd world who provide its coffee fairly, and making their stores fit in as well as possible in the neighborhoods where they set up shop to the point you can barely tell its a Starbucks when you walk by. It's really sad to see them squander all that good will on supporting violent migrants. Google was founded on the idea of "Don't be evil". Somehow, they forgot that censorship of people you don't agree with is about as evil as it gets without being violent.

I like Thai food as much as I like Thai girls.

When I see a McDonalds in Thailand I feel the same revulsion as when I see a fat, tattooed western woman there. In fact the two phenomena are closely connected.

This is simply not accurate.

First of all, you're making a false comparison between McDonald's and some hole-in-the-wall local spot.

As I pointed out, there are many "nice" restaurants and coffee shops in Bangkok and Manila. That includes both local and international restaurants.

Second, yeah, the US does have stricter food preparation laws than, say, the Philippines, but:

1. US laws do not apply to McDonald's abroad; they just had a huge scandal in China a couple years ago for using expired meat in mass quanities
2. McDonald's is shit-tier in the US, even among fast food restaurants

In fact, McDonald's branches in the US are so piss poor in terms of cleanliness and food quality that they have to step their game up internationally. McDo in the Philippines is MUCH better than in most of the US, in terms of both quality and presentation.

Thirdly, I repeat, an Americano is literally espresso and hot water. As far as I know, it's not even possible to get food poisoning from that. The idea that you're going to get sick from a latte at some boutique Bangkok cafe is hilarious.

Again, if you want to eat Big Macs and drink venti Mocha Frappucinos until your eyes pop out, be my guest. It's not some big fight.

I was simply pointing out the fact that neither Starbucks nor McDonald's are some kind of "oasis" among a sea of non-air-conditioned shitholes in these cities. Even Manila, for all its faults, has plenty of nice cafes and restaurants.

Source: Worked for years in both some of the biggest and most nationally-acclaimed restaurants in the US, then lived in the Philippines/Thailand for years.

Starbucks is the only way to get a venti anything in Europe. In countries where you have to argue at a restaurant to get tap water instead of a 2 euro bottle of mineral water, the idea of free refills on iced coffee is utterly alien.

Of course there are other coffee places like CB &TL, I go to them too. Yes, Thai food is excellent. Different issue.

I'm still not going to boycott Starbucks, they have pleasant premises, great place to sit for an hour and read the Bangkok Post or whatever . Plus they have helped veterans a lot.

What does McDonalds cook that is actually raw? Everything there is parcooked before it enters the building. The only raw shit McDonalds cooks is its eggs for the mcMuffin.

The systematics of the place are structured to ensure everything "cooks" the same way in the same amount of time. The most dangerous thing at McDonalds is likely the milkshake or cream machine for coffee. If those don't get cleaned well bacteria goes wild.

McDonalda used to be clean until they started being open 24/7. Now they slack with deep cleans and it attract all the bums to come chill and piss all over the place.
