Are some careers too unattractive? (Software development)

^ That doesn't always work. Some girls will laugh and then say, "but seriously, what do you do?" If you keep dodging then you look weird. That's why Neil Strauss's "I'm an underwear model" joke doesn't work anymore.
I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Some careers with a high barrier to entry are good to have (anything heavy into math) but you still need to work on your game.

I'm sure some careers are big negatives. If you jerk off horses for a living, make up something else. I don't count software development in that category (I am a software developer and writer).
What you do isn't what you are. Girls don't hang out with you at work. Do cool shit in your off time and don't worry about it.
Damn few girls really care what you do anyway, even if they ask.

Roissy mentioned somethimg similar years ago. You can run "contrast" game. Nerdy job? Get jacked and maybe a few tattoos. Then when women ask about you, you can tell the truth and they may not even believe you! Use this to tease them a bit, joke about it. Owning what you do will help your confidence more than trying to hide it, and women will pick up on that.
