I'm more awake and energetic after a night of drinking?

I've posted on here before about how I always feel sleepy, despite being very active.
Even when I get 8-9h of sleep, I stil wake up grouchy and low energy.

Over the last months I've been noticing, that if I take 4-5 drinks the night, I wake up in the morning after just 6h of sleep, completely sober and awake, feeling good. No drowsiness nor dizziness. I'm more effective at work, more reactive etc.

After it happened for the 5th time, I decided this must not be coincidence.

Read up on it a bit and people say that though alcohol makes you sleep less, the sleep quality is lower. Not true in my case, I wake up totally fine and sober.

Anyone can explain why? And does this mean I should keep boozing away every weekday to be super effective at work? [Image: lol.gif]

Thanks

The amount of time your sleeping is what i notice not the booze, 6 hours is ideal for me. Not sure the booze has anything to do with it. I believe the quote goes like this also "Ass, Cash, or Grass, nobody rides for free"

I think alcohol enhances your circulation short term, and invigorates you. Also its an anti-depressant and also clears out mental blocks etc in SMALL usage. Sounds like other things are making you tired without alcohol. (Also too much sleep can also make you tired!)

But it also lowers the quality of your sleep. You'll prob feel a crash if u wait 2 or 3 days.
Really regular drinking is a bad idea.

Maybe u should find a new socialising recreational and fitness hobby to reinvigorate yourself. Just my gut feeling. But a little bit of drink won't kill you.

I gave up binge drinking a long while back. Wish I'd done so far sooner.

Its not a matter of sleep. I feel sleepy even when I sleep 5 hours or 9 hours. Only after light drinking do I notice a change in the pattern.

I lift, train martial arts and dance, rarely is a day where I dont do one or another. I also dont need alcohol to approach, these days I drink about once or twice a month.

Weird thing is that it wasnt like this in my college days. I would get huge hangover after drinking.

Maybe it isn't about booze, but relaxation? What do you do 1-2 hours before sleep?

It would help if you explained what your typical drinking is like.

For example, if you drink mostly beer, then it may be you have a vitamin B deficiency and the beer restocks your vitamin B levels.

Different alcohols have different vitamin and mineral profiles, so it might be you are just replenishing some essential element. Find the element, and then you fix your sleepiness problem without having to resort to alcohol.

I drink 3 -4 cups of coffee a day to increase my energy levels... it is better than drinking alcohol in my opinion.

Dalaran -- you ever have trouble falling asleep because your brain won't shut up? In my personal experience I find that 2 - 3 drinks plus 0.5 mg of melatonin about an hour before bed helps me fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. My theory is the alcohol slows my mind down just enough that my brain doesn't start going off on wild tangents and keeping me alert and awake thinking about this and that while I'm just trying to fall asleep, and then as soon as the melatonin hits I knock out completely. Thus getting a solid 7 hours as planned rather than going to bed on time but only getting 4 - 5 hours since I laid there awake watching the clock til 2 a.m. Maybe our situations are similar.

Look into breathing techniques, as I think that short term circulation may play a roll. Wim Hof method is my favourite. Meditation/astral projection/lucid dreaming would also interest you.

Mostly cocktails and wine. I cant drink beer.
I tend to think I eat quite healthy and balanced. Lots of red meat and fruits, plenty of tomato and potatoes daily.

And coffee or tea doesnt do it for me either. Just makes me more agitated.

Im sure as hell aint gonna drink daily just to feel better though. I just wish I understand whats the cause.

The sample size you gave isn't large enough. Not that I want you to drink nightly for a month but if you did it for that l ok ng you'd probably be noticing what negative side effects there would be.

Do you eat enough green vegetables?

If wine makes you feel better, you are possibly deficient in magnesium. Wine is rich in magnesium, and magnesium deficiency does cause apathy, lethargy and poor sleep. It might be that the wine replenishes your magnesium stores.

There are other nutrients in wine but magnesium seems to me the most likely nutrient to look at given your symptoms.

Since your username is 1991, I assume you're something like 18 years old.

Well in another decade those 4-5 drinks are going to be giving you a 48hr hangover!!!!

Hahaha, to be young again...

Harvard journal, high red meat consumption, boosts colon cancer 28% .

One large study ( AMA Journal 2013, N=73,000) pointed to pescaterians (fish meat only) as the longest lived, the 7th day adventists live longer than most other ethnic groups and among them , nut consumption looked best at enhancing that.

I noticed, that when I drink, I am totally dead next day and ain´t possible to do anything productive (the older I am, the worse). My opinion is that body struggles with processing the alcohol, because it´s substance, that must be turned into different, and that´s how it sucks energy.
Anyway, this happens when I drink 8-15 beers (the more, the worse). 4-5 drinks is the amount of alcohol, that can be processed by body without any big struggle. That´s my opinion.

I'm not a medical doctor, but my impression is amounts of alcohol beyond 3-4 in a night are really a lot biologically speaking for an average person to process. If you were to look at liver markers etc....These amounts are normalized and glorified.

I've found incontrovertibly alcohol reduces the amount of productive work I can produce.

This again? I thought at 25 I would get rid of people telling me to eat my broccoli [Image: lol.gif]

Its true taht while I have lost of fruits, its mostly in the red/orange color and not enough green.

The article on red meat though, I'm a bit skeptical. Who's to say it does not come from the leftist propaganda of vegan eating? Especially from Harvard.

Maybe the alcoholic drinks improve your digestion. Especially fine wine.
