No, it tells us about human nature in general. Even in the most traditional, patriarchal historical societies, a woman's virginity was valued while a man's virginity was not.

I've always had trouble understanding these stories of young women selling their bodies or selling their virginity in order to "pay for their mother's (or brother's, father's, grandmother's, etc.) medical treatment to save their life."

Serious question: What would you do if you were a young man from a working-class family, living in a 3rd-world country, and you were diagnosed with cancer. The treatment is far more expensive than you or your family can afford, and you will likely die without it.
