Build a Wall, You Say? Been There, Done That, Failed

Funny how things change.
Reagan:"Tear down that wall!"
Trump:"Build that wall!"
Pope Cuck Frances:"Build bridges not walls!", while living behind the largest wall shown yet, in his own little, private, wealthiest country in the world.

Mexico will pay for the wall through remitances.

Might as well build the wall.

All very different reasons. I might be in the middle of the biggest yawn of my life... hang on a sec.

It was merely an existential statement, not part of my argument.
A pause for thought, so to speak.

Theres no way a wall could actually be cost effective. I am more for paying off the Mexican government or manipulating them via their debt to secure northbound illegals from crossing.

No, but we very easily could put up a financial wall. How about we start putting up a massive delay or tax on money wires to Mexico?

How do you define "cost effective" in this case? It's essentially a defensive structure. What alternative defensive structures will serve the same purpose with similar efficacy and be more cost effective?

None of the alternatives I have come up with would play well at all with the general public. Too inhumane.

Irenicus, I have to disagree. While of course we need disincentives as well, we need to keep in mind that disincentives are still enforced by only a small number of people - police, some military and some bureaucrats. In situations where you have thousands or even millions swarming into your country, these institutions will get overwhelmed.

For an example, check out this scene from a year ago - a migrant swarm rushing past the overwhelmed Austrian policemen:

Even if those policemen had AK-47s, they would have still been overwhelmed in seconds and the invaders would have gotten through just as easily. With a wall, though? No chance.

Of course Austria will still catch and deport the invaders, but the cost of hunting rogue thousands roaming your country and committing all sorts of crime would be enormous, easily dwarfing the cost of any physical barriers.

Disincentives-only is a solution for 1970s USA/Europe or for extremely isolated countries like Australia. Disincentives + physical barriers is the only lasting solution.

My friend, actually, you have just proved my point.

That video, as you said, too place last year. Back then, there were no walls, and nobody was expecting such things (bar the globalists). That is why those scenes happened, and, even heavily armed soldiers could do nothing. Zergling rush at it's finest.

Nowadays, there are walls (actually, barbed wires), and patrols who can operate with impunity (such as some Bulgarian guy who earns money catching migrants), but, regardless, the influx is still great. People are using alternate routes (Balkan route was not the only one). Such as the Mediterranean sea (they know that EU battleships will not sink or divert them, but assist them reaching EU soil), and Russia (there were many migrants entering Scandinavia via Russia).

We can build as many walls as we want, rant all day on this forum and Facecrap, but, until the EU and Merkel come to their senses (unlikely)...not much can be done. I am an optimist by nature, by the way.

Again, the only solution is wall + harsh immigration/family unification laws. It won't stop illegal immigration completely, but it will severely reduce it (refer to the Israeli and Australian examples in my previous post).

I didn't call for any shooting of people. Having a harsh immigration policy =/=shooting like a cowboy at everyone. Yes, I am referring to you, MSM. I hope you will enjoy your dog food soon.

I have been reading OP's initial post, and I agree with him.

While Trump's wall will certainly lower the illegal (!!) immigration, it will not stop it, in the long run. If people really have a motivation to pass it...sooner or later, they will find a way.

You guys are still missing the point! This isn't about reducing illegal immigration to 0%. It's about drastically reducing illegal immigration from its current state which is out of control. The difference between a county jail and a maximum security prison is pretty fucking huge - that's how you should be thinking about this.

The wall and its emboldened border patrol agents will be intimidating. I don't think some of you understand just how effective physical barriers such as walls actually are in the real world.

Gmac, I did not mention that every illegal should be sent to ADX or something. Google "Holot detention facility", and you see how this should be done.

Speaking of walls...let me tell you a hypothetical scenario. You are uneducated, poor as fuck, and desperate. You live in some shithole country. One day, a coyote (smuggler of people, for those who do not know) comes to you, and tells if you want to emigrate to US (for example). You say yes. He tells you that he can help you go there for 10000$ and promises you, when you reach the US, that:

- You will get a house.
- You will get a car
- Yu will get a job
- You will get a Zooey Deshanel like girl, in her early twenties, who will cowgirl you (and more), every night.

You (being uneducated and desperate, thus easily brainwashed) sell everything, pay the coyote and...off you go.

Eventually, you reach the Trump wall. Looking at it, and the guards, intimidates you at first. But...it won't stop you.

You want a pussy and a job, and you will not let some stupid wall stand in your way.

Thus, you will find a way. Either a tunnel, or you will try to get a tourist visa (via Open Society or Catholic Church), and come trough.

That scenario was based on real events, by the way. Many migrants were promised the same things I said (money, pussy...) if they reach Europe.

Again, Trump wall (or any wall for that matter) will not suffice, unless there are serious immigration reforms. And idiots like Pope and Palpatine

Note that Trump's most consistent tactic is to overshoot and then negotiate down from there. Only the media seems not to have seen it.

He started the campaign saying he'd build the wall across the border.

Then quickly said that "you really needed only 1,000 miles because of natural barriers."

What I suspect in the end is for the wall to be built in high traffic areas as local demands require, with other solutions also in place. But I expect him to build something to "keep his promise" and leave a monument to his memory.

It will be the first thing he has built that he won't be able to place Trump in giant gold letters on.
Maybe he will find a way through executive order.
