A Separate Nation for Car Haters

^ Well, the OP described a society without roads, where people relied on walking and bicycling to get around. That's what I assumed we were talking about here.

So how many dicks have you seen of people who drive sports cars Suits?

Or are you just repeating what a bunch of women like to say?

"Especially Roosh offers really good perspectives. But like MW said, at the end of the day, is he one of us?"

The only thing more alpha than an American muscle or European sports car is a horse.

Whenever I see a man driving a sports car or muscle car in an excessive manner, I automatically assume that he has a small penis.

This goes for North America in addition to Asia.

I have a Mustang, and I often drive in an excessive manner, so I'd say this must be true.

Since I'm not an Asian man and don't own a bicycle, the following image is a more accurate depiction of me getting from Point A to Point B.

You're absolutely right. I would not be caught dead dressed like that.

Here's a more accurate photograph of me on my way to daygame in SanLiTun Village.

Just live in the city, don't have a car or license and ride a fixie bike like every other faggot. Make sure to get a basket hold the tofu and organic free trade coffee, maybe mount a selfie stick on the front to get a few daily selfies for instagram.

I am an asian man and I actually have given a girl a lift on a bicycle to my place for some sex and with cheap rice whisky nightcap. In Vietnam no less [Image: wink.gif]. Girl was also in ao dai too. I feel this is an achievement award.

What was unexpected was that she wanted to come stay with me afterwards.

Ideally, every society should work toward the goal of increasing quality of life for people, regardless if they have vehicles or not.

In NYC one can live without a car. Driving across Brooklyn can take 2 hours, while the L train will take you there in less than 30.

I tried to live in Poland without a car, and it's a depressing, horrible experience. Public transportation is poor, and getting into bad situations because of it is an inevitable, almost weekly affair.

Is there anything more depressing than working hard, having your own business, and still being at the whim of broken trains/buses, crowded with human filth? After buying a car here, I don't think I could ever go back to that.

Which city in Poland?

Id agree for the most part in some of the smaller cities ive been it is terrible without a car.

On the other hand I live in Wroclaw and it is probably the most pedestrian friendly city ive ever lived in, ever. Bike lanes everywhere, the center is pedestrian only (bar a few delivery vehicles in the morning) and the trams and buses pretty much cover the whole city.

Only problem is this hasnt stopped people from raping the shit out of car usage so air quality and traffic jams are still terrible, still I live a very comfortable life over here without a car, the most I have in any city Ive lived in in the UK.

Agreed here, the location is important. A major city with good public transport, like Gdansk, makes it preferable to go at it without a car. I live about 30 min outside of a major city, so getting there and back is an ordeal, and downright impossible after 11PM when everything shuts down.

However, even if you live in a major city, you still have to take trains/buses to go to other cities, which in my experience has been disastrous. Even if you pay extra for the Express to avoid smelly, drunk people, there are often delays and problems.

My first trip to Gdansk and local areas was not pleasant at all without a car. I had to adhere to train schedules and rush through every spot I wanted to visit, not to mention the stress of a train being late and then knowing you won't get home because there are no good connections, etc. This summer I drove by car and it made a world of a difference. I could go to the beach when I wanted, I could go and visit tourist sites like Malbork without stressing about running back to catch the last train at 5pm or whatever.

Edit: Biggest advantage of not having a car was the physical fitness I got from running back and forth to my job and trains/buses. Also I had a tan year-round.

Nothing says badass like reading a bus schedule. Has any man ever been alpha while riding a subway or bicycle?

Exactly.

Unless you're a fashionable city wimp who never sticks his nose into the outback not having a car is like missing your right arm and half a leg. With a car you are the master of your time and travel. This concept should be self-explanatory for every self-respecting man.

Cities without cars? To me this is a sign of progressing communism and who wants to live among communists? I don't. They hate cars because it's a symbol of capitalism, industrialism, independence and freedom. In Poland cities generally still belong to the free world but If I were to wake up in a car-hating one like you see in the west I'd move to the country for this reason alone. Roosh said he's opting for the increasingly smaller cities, I moved out altogether. I believe it's a natural direction for a traditionally minded man who wants to be as independent and self-reliant as he can be. Owning a car is an obvious part of this equation. Multiply this by ten if you enjoy building and modifying them too (you need space for that!).

Nothing you can't compensate with discipline and workout, or if you live in the country, just take out your mountain bike and have a ride in the woods.

Depending on where you live, a car is just a sub-optimal way of getting around town.

If you live in a big city like São Paulo, it often takes longer to drive places than it does riding a bicycle, subway or bus.

If you choose to have a car, you're talking way bigger payments, maintenance, fuel, parking, cleaning, insurance and worse - being stuck on traffic. Depending on where you park you have to worry about safety, getting hustled by groups of guys who want you to pay to park on the street, etc.

I'm currently selling my car and just riding my bike. If I go out at night, I usually just walk (#TightLogistics); if it's far, I'll Uber - cheap, fast, no parking.

^ Bro, an Uber is a car. It drives on a road.

That's not a car-free society.

True - I was thinking car ownership rather than car-free.

You don't need a separate nation, we just need better cities:

A Traditional City Primer

http://andrewalexanderprice.com/blog20131204.php

Thanks for posting this. Very interesting overview.

He makes persuasive arguments, but depends a little too much on comparing and denigrating "suburban sprawl." All his solutions seem to be far more aimed at solving problems with cities, not suburbs.

Suburbs have inefficiencies because the people who live there want it that way. They want to own a detached single-family home with a yard in a safe neighborhood with good schools. If they have money to spare they are likely to want extra space for family gatherings and entertaining, and separation from neighbors.

Andrew appeals to history numerous times, but doesn't really do a rigorous analysis of how people chose to live given their means and situation in life. For all the dense "human-scale" ancient cities, there were plenty of rural villas and farms. Some people desired the density of the city for the social and political aspects, while others were poor and had no choice. Cities also offered safety and protection. But those who could afford it had homes and retreats outside the dense cities.

I find it amusing how people want to "perserve the character" of suburbia as if it is something unique - even though car-oriented surburbia pretty much looks the same from coast to coast

It's not the uniqueness that they want to preserve, it's the specific kind of quality of life that suburbia facilitates.

A quick note here - as a traditional urbanist - I have never been to a city that has a purely single-use zoning system that has felt exciting and energetic.

Well, yeah. "Exciting and energetic" is not what suburbs are going for. Safe, quiet, friendly. That's what suburbs want. To some extent, the two goals are mutually exclusive. You can't have excitement and safety. You can't have energetic serenity. You have to pick one or the other.
