She could so easily be one of my female relatives, I went through a quick process of elimination to be sure she isn't one of them. Such an abundance of this type of woman today.

^ I second that.

The fact that the last generation (or two) had a lot of opportunity and provided for their kids, and coddled them to a degree, OR that the families and peers around them did well, tended to make everyone think they could "get it" even though opportunity started to disappear and competition simultaneously skyrocketed. What I just said can be summarized as "The middle class is vanishing right before our eyes."

With strong families and traditional sex roles (less materialism and greed) we could have run it out much longer. But not without a national identity and something to really make us all think we're in it together, which we clearly aren't, since the country became "import others at all costs" so bigger corps can get richer and richer, and social strife can be taken advantage of by pols.

As an aside, did anyone else get the impression that for an employer, asking an intern to babysit your kids is a shit-test that she utterly failed?

If I were an employer and I had ten interns in front of me (and I needed a babysitter), I would absolutely ask for a show of hands for anyone willing to look after my kids for the night. That would be a fantastic way to weed out at least one unprofessional, low energy kiss-ass from the pack and get some free/cheap labour at the same time.

The correct response should be "I'm honoured that you would trust with with your kids but I'm not a babysitter, I'm an (x), sir."

This slacker seems to think that the job market is like university.

Yes, she failed 100%, the moment she took the babysitting job person stopped seeing her as a X profession and started to see her just a babysitter.

You see many of these interns in DC, picking food, clothes, they really never do anything job related, they are just maids to someone with a real career, and the people in DC know these young people are so desperate to be in DC they just do anything they want.
