I don't think real-life robots will be this prevalent for sexual purposes. Their customization with spare parts will be more costly and laborious (even if relatively easy) than doing it in VR.

I work in a tech field, and I'm very skeptical about the chances of "sex robots" ever coming close to being...anything worthwhile in our lifetimes. The AI research field is extremely new in the grand scheme of things, and there are still enormous hurdles. We can't even create an artificial insect with present technology; how could we possibly build an artificial mind? Or even an artificial mind that just runs the "sex, cuddling, and pleasant conversation" program?

I'm not denying there won't be some kind of something eventually, but I think it will forever be the domain of ultra-gamma tech nerds and only get slightly more market penetration than a Real Doll. Same with "VR", they've been promising the world for decades and never delivered.
