Obama giving away control of internet

The world wont end. Planes wont fall out of the sky, the lights will still be on, etc.

Eventually, opportunities for graft will set in and you will find competing internet just like competing twitter, competing youtube, and competing facebook. Tor is not a competing internet because it does not ssl data. Tor is more of a need before the "takeover".

We can't stop it because we won't unless a judge can put a stop on it.

As self-designated local SJW pinko I totally am against the USA relinquishing control of ICANN.

As a previous poster mentioned, the US has quite a lot of free speech (not in workplace but as far as being arrested for talking crazy.)

Also, hello WE INVENTED THE FUCKING INTERNET (DARPA).

The freedom of speech here means people don't get as murder hot mad at each other. NO way is there any need to trust anyone else with ICANN.

I'm a pinko not scared of gun/wing nuts , almost all gun nuts are civic minded and don't want to just start gunning down wimpy college protesters in the streets. Us classical liberals find our cultural opposites amusing, in the USA we more than just about any other nation realize it truly takes all kinds. Everybody bitches about how crazy everyone else is. That's good. It means no one's scared to speak up.

Compare that how to the Sunnis and the Shias get along.

Go Galt. Build a new internet. Seriously, I think that is what will end up happening. Then they will ruin the old internet and beg to join the new one. I will put forward a motion right now to say no.

Somebody's listening...

The world won't end, no. But this is a rather defeatist/rose-colored glasses way of looking at it.

This is yet another example of Obama betraying the US, albeit "legally" The things he's done and continues to do to damage not on the USA but freedom in general around the world, is staggering. It will only get worse between now and the end of his term. He's going to step it up and do as much damage as possible to the USA ( and help the globalists) and really ramp up the insanity because his days are limited.

Ceding control of the internet is a bad thing for this country and freedom and could have serious repercussions, notwithstanding planes in the sky and working lights.

This is too funny. Globalists kill internet by taking it over. Tech geeks build a new and better one.

If the creators of the internet were smart they'd have some kind of "backdoor" to take everything back. I don't exactly understand how one takes ownership of the internet and what that means. Can someone explain it to me or send a link?

A second internet is great, but how does that help us over the next month?

Republic Attorney Generals suing Obama over the turnover though. Hopefully that buys some time.

DNS (Domain nameservers) are servers which convert IP addresses of the servers which host websites to an easy human readable domain e.g. 23.01.35.323 might become rooshvforum.network.

ICANN manage the main DNS root zone, which means they control most Top Level Domains (.com, .net etc) via the main centralised DNS servers everyone uses and can shutdown access to any of these TLD domains at will.

It's pretty easy to choose your own DNS servers to access non-ICANN domains e.g. OpenNIC for .free domains, Namecoin for .bit domains etc but most people won't be bothered to change from the default.

I think the most likely alternative will be IPFS, ZeroNet or Tor hidden services for the alt-net if this goes ahead. The main issue is then Google is not going to crawl these websites and display them in search results, which means a major source of traffic is then gone.

McConnell took out language from the continuing resolution forbidding the giveaway. He needs to be held to account.

Now the only way to stop it is for a judge to issue a restraining order. Hopefully that happens today.

There's a lawsuit on going right now that seeks to block the hand over. Hopefully the judge agrees and blocks the transition.

Nope.

Obama-appointed judge lets Internet giveaway proceed - Refuses request from states to hold off on transfer

Quote:Quote:

Just a few days earlier, GOP senators, including Chuck Grassley, Ted Crux, Roy Blunt, Richard Burr and Ron Johnson, released a statement opposing the giveaway.

“It is profoundly disappointing that the Obama administration has decided to press on with its plan to relinquish United States oversight of crucial Internet functions, even though Congress has not given its approval. For years, there has been a bipartisan understanding that the ICANN transition is premature and that critical questions remain unanswered about the influence of authoritarian regimes in Internet governance, the protection of free speech, the effect on national security, and impacts on consumers, just to name a few,” they said.

Looks like we need to speed up the transition to the decentralised web.

For red pill website owners I'd recommend ZeroNet.

Pros/Cons:
+ Decentralised, P2P thus can't be censored
+ Based on Bitcoin cryptography and BitTorrent filesharing
+ Can be accessed via Google/clearnet via proxy websites e.g. https://zeronet.korso.win/Talk.ZeroNetwork.bit/ for the ZeroTalk site
+ Supports .bit domain TLDs, which is like DNS based on the blockchain and thus can't be censored. Rooshvforum.bit anyone?
+ Has the advantage over darknets like Tor .onions, I2P and Freenet by allowing users to access the websites in their normal web browser with no extra software installs
+ Works well right now for highly dynamic sites unlike IPFS

- To access .bit domains without a proxy website users need to install a separate app
- Proxy-based websites may not be crawled as readily by Google, reducing search engine traffic
- Doesn't have built-in anonymity (just like the clearnet/normal web). Have to use anonymising layer like VPNs or Tor on top of it

Examples of existing ZeroNet sites:
- ZeroTalk (decentralised Reddit)
- ZeroTorrent (decentralised Pirate Bay)
- Much more here

It had to happen eventually. Thankfully some smart people foresaw this problem ahead of time so we have some solutions available.

Control information and you can control the world, it's obvious the globalist are desperately trying to retake control of the narrative since the Internet is home to so many red pill websites and videos and podcasts - the elites influence has been thrwarted.

Until now.

This could be the beginning of the end of free speech on the Internet. Notice how I said "beginning" - I'm not claiming the sky is going to fall when the clock strikes midnight on October 1, but it's obvious this is step one of a larger plan to destroy the alt right and anti Globalist anti cuck anti SJW media.

It's a shame that this has happened, though it can be argued that the internet was a military project and as such falls under the auspices of military leadership.

ICANN can be consumed through such an edict.
