Anyone know why I'm getting headaches after 3 drinks?

When I was younger I was a big partier and drinker. Over the years really slowed down my drinking, probably less than once a week. A couple times a month however I like to go out and have some drinks with friends and party.

These days however after a few drinks say 3-4 drinks even across a couple hours time period I tend to start getting a headache and just feeling sluggish and kinda shitty. It was never like this before, in the past alcohol would actually to some extent energize me.

I did some googling and some people say if your prone to migrainese this can happen, I'm not however prone to migraines. Some other people have suggested taking zinc or other things before drinking and reported no issues.

Just curious if anyone else experiences this? If anyone knows why this is? And if anyone has a solution?

How much water do you drink a day ?

What's your average food intake look like daily ?

What exactly are you drinking ? Is it the same thing ? Is it beer ? Is it liquor ?

Couple of years ago I had the same issue. 3 beers or so would give me a headache. Now its back to normal levels, no idea why it happened though.

I'm mainly a beer drinker, these days more craft brews, although I have experimented with everything from wine to vodka to gin and still kind of experience the same thing which makes me think it isn't like a gluten allergy or something like that.

As far as food and water intake, if I know I'm going out drinking I'll make a point to try to eat a meal and drink a few bottles of water before I go out and try to mix in some water between drinks.

I can't say that it's this terrible hangover but can't really go out and have fun and enjoy a buzz with a headache after just a few drinks. Can't really figure out why it's happening although I do see many others online experiencing the same things.

I always eat carbs before drinking, I drink about a gallon of water a day.

Typically I'm out of the gym, eating, then out drinking during the week.

Try having a glass of water in between drinks.

Usually when I got headaches, it was Day 2 of a binge drinking bender, which I was dehydrated.

Most headaches are caused by dehydration

I get migraines with everything but liquor. I prefer bourbon but will drink other whiskey or vodka in a pinch. Alternate with water every couple of drinks.

A little bit (a pinch) of riboflavin is one of the only non-prescription migraine preventatives of which I know. It's good to try to prevent them because most NSAIDS are bad for the liver either during or after drinking.

Some people will recommend N-Acetyl Cysteine for the liver, but there are little known blood pressure complications with the heart and lung in response. I can't recommend it. Also, avoid Milk Thistle.

In sum, I recommend riboflavin, but also take it with thiamine (1000+ mg) and perhaps some biotin (2-5mg) as co-factors.

Also, get enough sleep and cut down on sugar on drinking days.

You probably have brain cancer.

Just kidding. I have several friends that get headaches when they drink shitty beer (aka bud, coors, miller). They solved the problem by drinking better quality beer or switching to liquor. There is something different about the massed produced American shit beers that causes some people to get headaches. If you google it you can find out more info. Here are some good places to start.

Your body is telling you something...likely you are not drinking enough water.

Most underestimate how much water they need to drink.

Are they the same types of beers/lagers/spirits?

I ask this because there are particular brands out there which give me headaches or a sore stomach after just 2 pints and others of the same type and alcohol percentage which I can get almost 4 times as much with no problems whatsoever apart from the typical hangover feeling the next day.

Either carb up, because carbs help you retain water, and retaining water is the key to retaining electrolytes.

Or get your electrolytes directly via salt water (couple teaspoons in a glass) and powered vitamins.

It's not just the water, but lack of salts/electrolytes.

Pedialyte or the knockoff brand works great
