Entitled interns fired for demanding dress code change at their employer

Wow.

I'm the guy who wrote into the blogger about getting fired from my internship. I've read here before and agreed with lots of the stuff. I can't believe no one supports what I did. It wasn't even just about the shoes, I didn't want to wear a suit and tie every day. This place is anti-establishment and that's what I was trying to do.

Proof (not trolling) of the emails I sent to the blogger and the reply I got: http://imgur[dot]com/FUZjguZ,QkyuJ2r,Qej3iKU

IMO, this example shows a mindset split in the forum.

On one hand, you've got guys with a Gorilla Mindset, who realize that the only thing they can control are their individual selves. They get what they want because they work for it, and are here to share tips on how to do that.

But, on the other hand, you've also got guys who insist or imply that everyone else (society) change for them (who wouldn't want this?). Sometimes these guys even shoot themselves in the foot for it, as in this example. Regardless, without power, these guys - surprisingly - don't get what they want.

Score, this is exactly what we needed!

First off, nothing you did was "anti-establishment". Bitch like maybe, but not fighting the power. Who the hell writes up petitions? Being anti establishment means bucking the current social order of the day. IE not being PC, not cowtowing to women, and especially standing up against family destroying agendas.

Second off, if you truly read this forum and embodied it's principles you would have noticed that having a wearing well fitted custom suits is the height of male fashion and something every member aspires to have. We have a member called Suits FFS. So you're required to wear a suit and tie, why not get a garishly colored suit and tie? Red blazer, blue tie, hilariously colored socks, etc. Push the line but never cross it.

Here are two lessons for you to walk away with:
Petitions are for pussies and you are one for " organizing" it.
As an intern and employee for the first three years, you have no power and no one cares about what you think.

You want to dress like Zuckerberg slob? Start your own company.

Notice something else that is completely typical of the millenial mindset and provides an interesting insight into human psychology in general.

They think that wearing a suit is "establishment" and that not wearing a suit is "anti-establishment".

In reality the two have jack shit to do with each other, and making that statement implies that they value pandering over substance. Some of the most effective anti-establishment people in the world dress fabulously, while there are plenty of establishment people (Zuck) who dress like slobs.

I've been able to use this to my advantage. I re-posted one of the "Pride" videos in my classes social media and got a lot of compliments from people who said things like "We need more people as tolerant as you!" while I was laughing my way home because I've routinely defended business owners prosecuted for refusing to do business on my social media accounts. I'm definitely NOT one of them but they react more strongly to the pandering than to what I actually say and think.

I strongly assumed that the intern that did the complaining was a woman. I'm amazed to find out it was a guy. What were you thinking? I'm assuming you are a social justice warrior. So many of the ideas that SJWs have are completely ignorant about actual patterns of human behavior. These patterns are a built in part of the human temperament.

In this case, clothing provides a form of social signaling, both within the group, and to customers and other people they interact with outside the group. There are good reasons for dress codes, and where they exist, it is foolish to fight them unless you truly understand them, and have sufficient status within the group to change the culture.

Even a high status member of a group has a high likelihood of bring ejected from the group if he tries to change the culture and is not successful. An intern will inevitable lose when trying get to change the culture in a workplace.

I'm the tower of power, too sweet to be sour. I'm funky like a monkey. Sky's the limit and space is the place!

There so many derogative terms I could use for you right now, but I won't. This forum is place for the betterment of men and occasional ribbing at each other. Here a lesson for the future, from one millennial to another: understand who has power and know limits of your power. As intern, you have no power or bargaining rights with employer. You are given opportunity to gain experience in real world and prove your worth. You have no say in anything, unless it something helpful or its dangerous to you and fellow workers.

This incident you created was not fighting the 'man', but proving how much a child (or women) you are acting. Following a dress code is a rule that everyone follows in life at least one time. It subtle form of discipline, which you failed horrible. At the same time, you lack situational awareness and critical thinking to ask why, does this women can wear sneakers, while I wear dress shoes.

Unless you working in Caribbean island with no A/C in summertime, your argument may have some merit, but you are not. You living in the US, with access to A/C units galore. Act like professional, suit up and do your work. The world does not cater to your whims, unless you gain enough wisdom, knowledge, and power to do so. Good luck, and get you T levels check, since the majority of us were thinking you were a girl.

Get the fuck out or grow the fuck up. You do not wear a suit and tie because it is "establishment". You wear a suit and tie because you are a professional and proud of yourself.

I want to say I do have a lot of respect for the one intern who refused to sign that stupid petition. He (I assume it's a male) had enough proper upbringing and intelligence to know it's not in his best interests to align himself with a bunch of crybaby millennial SJW's in Corporate America, especially as the absolute lowest peon on the company totem pole. Assuming he's around 20 or 21, I'm impressed by that because when I was that age it would have been harder for me to not give into peer pressure to "support" the rest of the interns like that, even if I disagreed with them. Who knows - maybe he's a member of the forum.

The original poster on that site said she was a woman who initiated the "petition" to begin with. This 1 post troll claims to be a man who is the original submitter.

A 1 post troll who fucked up the details got your collective blood pressures up..

Come on guys this is a pretty obvious inconsistency.

I also noted the gender inconsistencies between the stories here and on that website.

Data Sheet Maps | On Musical Chicks | Rep Point Changes | Au Pairs on a Boat
Captainstabbin: "girls get more attractive with your dick in their mouth. It's science."
Spaniard88: "The "believe anything" crew contributes: "She's probably a good girl, maybe she lost her virginity to someone with AIDS and only had sex once before you met her...give her a chance.""

I don't know if these interns should be blacklisted forever- that's overkill for what they did- but let's hope they have learned a hard lesson about the corporate world.

Nah, they won't learn a thing. When confronted with reality, these types always double-down - "Well, something's wrong. And it's certainly not me. So it must be the world that's wrong."

I'm sure the first thing they did was run to social media and perhaps the regular media, hoping to rally up the SJW hate squad and Internet white knights to their "cause", with the intent of extracting at least a public apology/rescindment from the company.

Anecdotally it's also been my experience that nominally "liberal" organizations and companies are not too good at actually complying with the requirements of the ADA...if you're a man. I suffer from chronic pain flareups and often have trouble standing for long periods; I was legally temporarily disabled for two years because of it. My girl wanted to go to some event hosted at a club/theater sponsored by Harvard University...we get there and there's not a fucking seat on the main floor anywhere. I sit down on a railing for 30 seconds and they tell me to get up. I explain to the door staff (all sitting around on the only chairs available) my situation, they shrug and go "Buy a table upgrade (for $80) or leave." It seems silly to turn away a customer who'd be ready to spend a decent amount of money at the bar because you can't find a place for him to sit for five minutes, it seems to me a rather small thing to ask, but they definitely couldn't have cared less.

The one interesting thing was that this dance event was put on by some LGBT group, it's not something I would've gone to except to humor my plate's curiosity, but when I got there I noticed that the club was filled to the bursting with hot women, like a 5:1 ratio at least. Girls were approaching me at the bar, there were couples approaching my plate, it was pretty nuts, at least for the hour or so we spent there. Even my girl commented on the irony of it: "So here you are with me, and also every single woman in the city." My obvious frustration seemed to give her a perverse feeling of satisfaction. People enjoy a good pile on. It feeds a sense of superiority, with a dash of sadistic glee. We are only human.

This. When I was I was in my late 20's, I worked for a boss who was a nice guy, a bit bumbling, perhaps, but well intentioned. The worst thing he ever did was that, occasionally, he'd ask someone to run an errand for him like picking up some supplies at the Staples (around the corner, btw) rather than wait 3 days for the admin to order them. He was from a different culture and this would not be considered not "out of school" for him. But he treated people well, didn't overwork them, etc. But for whatever reason, several of the slightly younger team members decided to "report" him to the big boss. Now, this was at a huge, old-school, fortune 500. There was one guy on the team who was about 40, and realized what a foolish idea this was. He begged them not to do it, that their was no real grievance and they'd only look foolish, and probably end their own careers. So he did not participate. And neither did I. And it played out exactly as I suspected, the VP said "Oh, hmmm, well I'll TALK to him about this", but was really thinking "Jesus you guys are wasting my time with this? None of you are fit to ever be a manager". As I said, I was late 20's at the time - 28 maybe? I'm not sure i would've been that smart at 21. So kudo's to the one intern.

^ Those who have some sense understand that if they don't like it, the best long-term plan is to keep your mouth shut and either look for something more suitable, or work on becoming self-employed.

If the supplies were for work that needed to get done, what's the issue? You're all there to get the job done.

I've done coffee and food runs for the guys while I was doing a 100k a year job, thought nothing of it.
