Spartacus (tv series)

I know the Spartacus series ended years ago but I only watched it a week ago. And boy oh boy was it awesome. I mean it was senselessly good. I sometimes forgot to breathe whilst watching it. I was surprised to see there is no Spartacus master thread. What are your thoughts?

Don't debate me.

Yeah, agreed, good show.

Sad about Andy Whitfield, the title character passing away. His replacement was decent, but didn't have the same presence/impact.

Love it.

After Andy Whitfield died, show was never the same.

Still remember a short tune sung by Gaticus "Blood rains down from angry sky, my cocks rages on, my cocktail rages on.."

The new guy didn't hold a candle to Whitfield but they series still made an impressive recovery just by virtue of having so many great characters. They also didn't stretch it out endlessly unlike so many others today.

Best line in the series, "Once again the gods decide to spread the cheeks and ram cock in ass!"

Who was your favourite actor? For me it was Ashur. I didnt want to see him die. No one has ever played such a slimy back stabbing character like him.

Don't debate me.

Battiatis.

He was the first character to teach me that a great villain is one whom you hate whenever he appears on screen, but deeply miss once he's gone. Like Joffrey from Game of Thrones, but not like Ramsey Bolton from Game of Thrones.

+1. Whitfield portrayed Spartacus as a man calm on the surface, but wound like a tight spring ready to unleash brutal violence in the blink of an eye. And how he did it; in some scenes it looks like he's about to burst a few blood vessels while either fighting, crying or just generally enacting mayhem. He also delivered the archaic dialogue in a believable fashion. (SPOILER ALERT: His acting in the scene where he despairs after Varro's death... Goosebumps.)

The Spartacus of following seasons did an okay job IMO. The annoying thing about him was that he lowered and grittified his voice. In some scenes you hear his voice hilariously breaking.

Gannicus.

His character begins as a cocky, arrogant gladiator with an unabashed desire for wine, women, money and a love for showmanship. Gannicus takes a turn in later seasons, and while he began as a very surface level character, I was glad to see his development over the seasons. His transformation from selfish to selfless was well-done.

At the risk of spoiling it for those who haven't finished the season, his last scene in the show is one I was pleased with and seemed fitting.

Just watched the finally episode on netflix to kill some time, and I have to say it always makes me wish I could turn back the dials of time and watch history's greatest men in action with my own eyes.

To think many of us have walked on the same ground as men who could inspire and command hundreds of thousands of others to reshape the world as they knew it is mind boggling and truly inspiring.

^Well even today there are people who inspire milllions and change the course of history. But today it isnt the Crassusor Spartacus of the world but the Mark Zuckerbergs and Steve Jobs.

All you gotta do is ask them questions and listen to what they have to say and shit.
