Sledge Hammer! (1980's T.V. Show)

For some reason memories of this show recently came back to me. I remember enjoying it as a kid. Does anyone else remember it? It was a slapstick comedy about a zero-fucks-given cop, in the mold of Dirty Harry mixed with Naked Gun/Police Squad. (I'm thinking that it's possible I was somehow reminded of this because of Trump...and that sort of attitude that he gives off...)
Just realized that the mayor is played by the same actor who was Dean Wormer in Animal House.

The only one I remember is when he's on hallucinogens and the barrel of his gun starts talking to him..

Yeah, I vaguely remember seeing this on Finnish TV years ago.
Compared to Police Squad, Hammer doesn't constantly bombard the viewer with jokes/background sight gags.

Great show man, I remember enjoying it as a kid, we even repeated the punchline at (elementary) school, "Trust me, I know what I'm doing... POW!"

Great show!! Found the series in dvd a couple years ago. Him, not Dirty Harry is why 44 mag is my favorite caliber.

This show was outrageously funny. Unfortunately, it was also in the ratings basement.
I remember one scene where a man is standing outside a window, like he is going to jump. Hammer pulls out his gun and starts shooting at him. The guy goes back into the building.
