Probably the best book I've read explaining the psychological differences which affect the modern dating scene.
Some key pointers:
1. Much of the chaos in the modern dating world is essentially the result of man tampering with nature; humans even in the 21st century are biologically more or less the same as hunter-gatherers who live in stone age tribes, but modern civilization has removed us from our natural habitat.
2. Traditionally men with alpha traits, those who were most courageous and worthy of leadership were also the best providers, which is why these traits are attractive to women. The modern world has in some ways "leveled the playing field" so that now the mild-mannered accountant may have more wealth than the Green Beret sergeant, but biological attraction hasn't change; hence the dynamic of women marrying beta providers but having affairs with "alpha" bad boys has increased dramatically.
3. Likewise in small hunter-gatherer tribes there was a natural "karma" system in check to prevent exploitation by both sexes. A man who used women for sex but didn't provide was often a target for revenge by a father or husband of the woman; and a woman who cheated or played men would quickly gain a reputation as a whore.
Modern civilization and technology and our high population has essentially removed this natural karma effect, there is now far less natural consequence for cheating or philandering on the part of both sexes.
