Not to intentionally start another race debate, but this was an article posted ten years ago, and I was confused about it's depiction of social landscape. Was this article accurate about its assertions and are Asian guys in America really the new trophy boyfriends, now that 10 years have passed?

Two words--Hell No! Have you ever walked the streets of an American city. You'll clearly see that this isn't so. It's interesting to see an article like this from ten years ago pop up. However, I presume "Asian" generally refers to East Asian such as Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean, etc.

Title of article: Why Asian Guys Are On A Roll

Asian guys are not on a roll.

Quote:Quote:

After getting divorced from an "All-American guy" she'd been with for 10 years, 31-year-old publicist Lisa Rosevear was ready for something new. She came up with a list of what she wanted in a man: smart, genuine, respectful. Adding it up, it occurred to her that guys who fit the bill were ... Asian, a group she'd never considered romantically before. So when Wayne Chang, a Korean-American Internet journalist, stopped her on the street, the timing was just right. "Cool hair!" he said. "You look just like Astro Girl." Rosevear, a big fan of the Japanese anime character, replied, "I love Astro Girl!" They've been together ever since.

This guy is not your typical Asian man. Notice how he spits good game about her hair. (He teases.) He randomly stops her on the street (daygame). The alpha is strong in this one. For every Asian guy with game, there are about 10,000 Asian guys with no game.

Also, the woman, Lisa Rosevear, was married at 21. This tells us that she (presumably) did not whore herself off during most of her twenties. This is not your average woman. But, then again, this article was written in 2000, so Lisa Rosevear married somewhere around 1990 where society was much more conservative about open sexuality than it is today.

This is not your typical Asian man, and this is not your typical American woman.

Quote:Quote:

The 1980 census found nearly three times as many marriages between Asian women and white men than between Asian men and white women. Experts are divided over the causes for the imbalance. One reason may be that many Asian men born in America face strong family pressure to be dutiful sons by marrying appropriate (read: same race, good family) women.

This is complete BS. Both Asian men and women were expected to marry one's own race. In fact, there is just as much, if not more, pressure on Asian women to marry within one's race.

Furthermore, by describing Asian men as "dutiful" sons, this is sort of implying that they are limp-dicked mama's boys. Most of them are, but they are playing by what I call "old school" rules. The Chinese come from a culture where Confucian ideas still linger where the parents would raise the children, and the children, in turn, would take care of the parents and the daughters would be obedient and sons the giver of resources.

Let's break down the typical stereotype of an typical Asian man. He is geeky, nerdy, sexless, a social retard, has no social skills, and is bad with women. Let's look at the geek stereotype. To have a professional white-collar job requires large amounts of time, dedication, and resources. This means you won't have much time to interact with people (e.g., develop good social and conversational skills) which translates into not being able to talk with women at all.

It is no wonder that the nerd stereotype has a bit of truth in it. Nerds, for the most part, are not seen as assholes, but when they are viewed in a badass way (evil mad scientist) they are still seen as celibate and sexless. That is because the evil mad scientist spends all his time in the laboratory, unable to socialize with people and getting able to talk with women. Being able to socialize is a skill. It can be learned, but only with practice.

Quote:Quote:

Marlon Villa, a Filipino from San Francisco whose wife is white, says the old idea was, "Black guys are studs, white guys have all the power and Asian guys are the nerdy little wimps that women wouldn't glance at."

What does he mean by "power"? Political power? America is a democracy. How the hell are Asian guys supposed to have political power when Asians only constitute 5% of the entire U.S. population?!

Quote:Quote:

In the age of Yahoo's cofounder Jerry Yang, traditionally negative stereotypes of Asian males as smart, studious and hardworking become positives. They're practically turn-of-the-century American heroes. All of this has implications in the marriage market, sociologists say. "When you think about marriage patterns," Gordon Chang says, "social position plays a big part in how we evaluate partners."

Lol. This is too funny. The article assumes (and implies) that having a good, steady job and being honest and smart will actually attract women. Here's the news: there's millions of guys out there with steady jobs. Sure, they may work as a corporate slave, but it is secure. Unless you reach the upper echelons of your field of work (business CEO, well-known doctor or lawyer, etc.) your job will not help you get women unless you want to be used and played by golddiggers.

Quote:Quote:

Chang says Asian men are the next "trophy boyfriends." Rosevear agrees. "It's almost like Asian boyfriends are the fashion accessory of the moment," she jokes.

Simply untrue. Does this Chang guy have a male version of a rationalization hamster? He is self-deluding himself. Ten years down the line, Asian men are still stereotyped as sexless, socially retarded, nerds.

Quote:Quote:

But not everyone sees interracial dating as a good thing. Asian-Americans in interracial relationships risk being labeled "white-washed" or "race traitors" by members of their own community. Some people oppose interracial dating for fear of losing partners to other groups.

If you're not man enough to go after what you want, you will get no respect from anyone, including women.

Conclusion Being an Asian guy is not going to stop you. It might initially be a bit of a handicap since people have these stereotypes in their heads but they can be overcome. It's like being a little short. It can be overcome with good game.

I think this one of those situations where the author looked out of his window (probably in San Francisco, where the phenomenon of Asian guys with white girls is a lot more common), optimistically looked into the future, and tapped out an article before the deadline. Unfortunately, things haven't played out that way (at least for Asian cats with no game).

That's a bit much. But I do have to say that in my neck of the woods I have seen quite an increase in the number of Asian guys walking arm-in-arm with white women. And for whatever reason it seems it's only white girls that Asian guys are clamoring for when dating out of their race. I don't see them chasing black, Indian or Mexican girls. I think for many Asian guys, having a white chic is proof that they have "made it" and are now "real" Americans. The Asian guys I see with white girls tend to act and talk like white guys.

This kind of Asian dude should have no problem getting non-Asian girls: http://youtu.be/IXae7qYFV24

According to dozens of women I have interviewed from different races, age groups and financial status; a staggering amount of women DO NOT like guys with bulging muscles. They want a guy to be lean and fit like Ryan Reynolds, but not overly bulging muscular like that guy in the video.

There certainly are women who like it, but the percentage is surprisingly low unlike Flex Magazine and Metrx drinks have led us to believe in the last 2 decades.

I've also heard this from women.

How true do you think that is? Is this a case of women claiming they don't like something, but in fact actually do? ( i.e. girls say they don't like jerks but that's all they date )

A lot of these jacked type guys brag about getting a lot of attention on dating websites just with their photo, but who knows...?

@samseau

Think about it: dating websites. Please give me the name of ONE website where 90% of women are hot abd beautiful VS 90% fat, ugly and impressed by any guy who gives them the slightest bit if attention.

Of course they will get attention, from women with low sex market value in the real world.
