In addition to all the "women in charge" bullshit, I'm also getting sick of Hollywood shoehorning in Chinese characters to appeal to the Chinese market. Do they really need to do this? Until recently Japan was the biggest market in Asia for Hollywood films - I don't recall seeing a Japanese actor in every fucking movie.
No offense, but your whole breakdown kind of proves that you guys get a little too obsessed with finding fault in everything.
The reason I say that is there were a few very BLATANT pro-refugee/pro-Muslim/globalist/multiculturalism scenes spliced in towards the end and yet I haven't seen anyone even mention them. Those were the parts that really made me cringe.
The other stuff is silly.
How on Earth does a hot Chinese woman hooking up with one of the dorkiest white guys in the movie appeal to the Chinese market?
The girl at the end doesn't save the day. She does one thing, then is slapped down and has to be saved from certain death by the men. She didn't even kill a single alien.
Almost all of the main characters had their moment, and 9 out of 10 were men. Even the beta journalist guy killed more aliens than her and the other chick combined.
Also, the woman president was completely incompetent and didn't even make any decisions. It was all the men coming up with plans and then her saying "okay" at the end. And notice that her being taken out of the picture was the entire turning point in the movie for them to actually fight back.
The "gay" guy -- maybe stuff was cut out for the international release, like you mentioned, because I had no idea he was gay in the international version. Even the scene with his "partner" was pretty ambiguous. It was more like, "Is he gay? Or do they just have a really close, nerdy friendship?"
And bro, Jeff Goldblum is 64. He looks incredible for his age. His love interest is 20 years younger than he is.
Bill Pullman looked bad ass with that beard too. He's only 1 year younger than Goldblum.
I saw the movie earlier because some chick wanted to go to the movies and it was the only thing I was remotely interested in. I went in with very low expectations but ended up really enjoying it.
The thing that held it back was not having any real stand out characters, like a Will Smith or younger Bill Pullman/Jeff Goldblum. I agree that the actor playing Will Smith's son was awful. The movie was more like a bunch of supporting characters with no real star.
