If I remember correctly, the mummy part 2 was late 90's, and is known for it's horrible cgi.

Hehehe, both the Mummy part 1 and 2 are up there with Independence Day for me. I've watched that one many many times. I love Brendon Fraiser's performance in both. The 3rd Mummy movie didn't do it for me.

Apparently The Mummy is being remade with Tom Cruise, to be released next year. Female mummy too!

Oh for fuck's sake.
I'd rather see a Lawnmower Man remake. Or another Critters sequel.

Just got out of the theater. What a fitting release for Brexit day. Here's my review, there are spoilers.

There are no overt SJW messages! I paid 36 GBP for two adult tickets, a large popcorn, and two large sodas. Overall I enjoyed it, but I have my complaints.

I'm teetering between being glad I saw it and thinking I could have better spent 36 pounds elsewhere. Fun movie and road in well off of the Brexit feels i've been enjoying today. If you've got nothing to do i'd say go check it out.

Spoilers ahead!

The movie wasn't half bad. As someone who watched the original more times than I can count, the film was a half nail biter. I still get nervous when watching the original and the sequel partially delivered.

The film had way too much nostalgia packed in. If you watched the original before viewing, you'll notice similar shots, lines, and other one-liners that make you cringe.

The acting was all over the place. Jeff Goldblum's acting was pretty bad. He was more convincing in his youth. Bill Pullman's elderly crazy man antics charmed me somewhat and it was refreshing to see him cut the beard and go back to the clean cut 90s look. He gives another morale boosting speech. It sounds like Bill had a stroke or something, I hope that's just him playing a bumbling old man.

A surprising addition to this film was Brent Spiner. Dr Olken's role was very small in the original. This had him front and center in this. The rumors about this release having some "gay" characters were partially true albeit never mentioned. In the beginning of the film Olken is being taken care of by a doctor who has decorated his room in orchards and at the end when his caretaker is dying they make a mention about how Spiner's scarf was supposed to be a sweater. It seems that they heavily downplayed this from the original script (thank god) but you can still see the left overs.

There's an annoying amount of multiculturalism going on. The Chinese are featured heavily in the beginning and this "star squad" of fighters had this petite Chinese girl who could kick butt in a fighter jet. This dies down as the movie progresses.

Hemsworth was pretty good and kept a good attitude through out the film. Joshua Usher played the son of Will Smith (who died). Thankfully Hemsworth evened out his shitty acting. He had big shoes to fill. It would have been better if they just let him be his own thing instead of being a wannabe Will Smith.

Cinematically, it was a draw. I like big explosions and the like, but the effects pass into the uncanny valley. It doesn't look real all.

They do a lot of this "large stadium view" which reminds me of Hunger Games [Image: tributes+avenue.jpg]

I don't care much for it. My opinions on 90s era special effects were in my humble opinion the apex of cinematic special effects before computers bastardized and cartooned everything.

In fact, the Hillary Clinton lookalike and pretty much everyone who annoyed me in the beginning were quickly offed when the aliens came out. This happened about a quarter of the way into the movie. This was when it picked up.

The story's pacing was off. While the original was certainly had an allegro speed to it, it had a pacing to it that was still well nuanced. This just took off right to explosions in the first 10 minutes. The story arc was still too similar to the original.

Overall i'd give it a 6.5/10. A few hours after the film, I still haven't regretted spending the 36 pounds. YMMV

The aliens were an insult to the first one. There was no threat to them. Its enjoyable in parts but nothing compared to the first. Too many missed chances.

The reviews are pretty brutal. Not having The Fresh Prince on board probably doomed this one from the beginning.

But, it also goes to a thought I have about current movies: How many times do we need to see totally-CGI-generated "worlds" blown the fuck up? I tried watching Avengers: Age of Ultron the other night, and quit after an hour......hours of one fake digital apparition pretending to beat the shit out of another fake digital apparition has completely lost its appeal for me, if it were ever there to begin with.

Will Smith has co-opted his son into his movies and he needs to be told thats total bullshit. His fee and his son was a deal breaker. His son has the acting credentials of a cabbage and should be one of those 'celebs' who at best are seen at Basketball games and has a presence on twatter, but thats it.

I was surprised they had the balls to kill off the woman president the way they did. Not just her, but all her bodyguards and associates all get stomped out, all at once.

I agree that 90s films do have better special effects, compare the original Jurassic Park with Jurassic World for example.

Spoilers ahead:

I love the original, and I thought this film was a piece of shit. I felt like walking out of the cinema after 15 minutes.

In addition to all the "women in charge" bullshit, I'm also getting sick of Hollywood shoehorning in Chinese characters to appeal to the Chinese market. Do they really need to do this? Until recently Japan was the biggest market in Asia for Hollywood films - I don't recall seeing a Japanese actor in every fucking movie.

A couple of things:

President from first movie - I'm a bit sad as how his character turned out. He's a bearded loser who only wakes up in the 2nd half of the film. He was great in the original.

The white female pilot - why?! She saves the day as expected in modern Hollywood.

Chinese female pilot - hot as fuck but unnecessary. Totally shoehorned in, to make the Chinese feel better. She also can't act. Her uncle yells in Chinese at 2 American pilots - why the fuck would that happen? That doesn't even make any sense. The beta American pilot doesn't get to even kiss her and she doesn't act feminine like the average FOB Chinese woman.

Liam Hemsworth - he's a pretty charisma free actor and a lot less talented than his brother Chris.

Brent Spiner - his character turns out to be gay - why? He's pretty good in the film, but they could have cut out the gay shit. There's a scene where his fag lover dies and you're supposed to feel sad about it, but my reaction was, "do we really need this shit in the movie"? I wonder if they cut all gay references out for international release.

Jeff Goldblum - he appears to be sleepwalking in this film and the British woman that he was banging in the movie was an old hag. He also now looks the same age as the guy who played his dad.

Gabrielle Union (Will's Smith's wife) - has hit the wall hard. Now looks like a tranny with the short haircut and her death was done really badly. I didn't feel invested in the character at all.

Will Smith's son - seemed to be hired because he looks like Will Smith from behind. There's no character development. Does he even have a woman in the story? You see that he is a celeb among st the pilots, and he doesn't even try to bang anyone. If this film was made in the 70s or 80s they would have shown him leading an admiring female back to his quarters. I think they should have hired somebody like Michael B Jordan for the role.

The Aliens - appear to be no threat at all and appear to be cheaper version the Ridley Scott Alien without the menace.

This film is a textbook example of an unnecessary sequel done badly.

I watched this movie today. Disappointed.

I wasn't expecting an award-winner here, but this movie was just so bad compared to the original that I actually wish I waited to download it instead of paying for the movie ticket.

(Minor spoiler ahead for those that care)

The worst thing is that the Asian actress they put in (Angelababy is her actual name she goes by on IMDB) clearly just to pander to the international market was in a generic jumpsuit the entire time. Laaaaame. If you're going to pander, just be shameless about it and at least put her in some sort of sexy slim flight suit or something.

Damn, what a disappointment. I haven't seen it and not going to bother, thanks for the heads up though.

It's a sad (but common) sign of the times that the highest rated movie that's playing near me is the Finding Nemo sequel. The next highest rated movie is this:

...which just looks like some dark, bitter, unfunny, cynical, hipster-friendly trash.

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

I'm guessing you've never seen his wife. Watch season one of Gotham and you'll soon realise that Will Smith's balls are sitting in a jar somewhere.

Seriously, I don't know WTF is going on there. My guess is that she has some biblically proportioned blackmail on the Fresh Prince, because why a guy like that would be tapping a hag like her for 20 years is beyond me.

So when you see "Will Smith is trying to push his talentless hack son's career" read "Jada Pinkett Smith is busting Will Smith's balls to further the career of their talentless hack son."

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

I know he married her and there were rumours he was going to divorce her? Will Smith hasn't had the success recently brought to him by Ali, I Am Robot & I am Legend.

No idea what she is like personally but he can't just say his son is shit and to find a job at some fashion store.

Will may or may not have had his balls cut off - but unlike most guys in that situation... at least it was worth it... especially if she likes anal, which I think she probably does

Apparently Smith couldnt do the sequel - simply due to timing...

No offense, but your whole breakdown kind of proves that you guys get a little too obsessed with finding fault in everything.

The reason I say that is there were a few very BLATANT pro-refugee/pro-Muslim/globalist/multiculturalism scenes spliced in towards the end and yet I haven't seen anyone even mention them. Those were the parts that really made me cringe.

The other stuff is silly.

How on Earth does a hot Chinese woman hooking up with one of the dorkiest white guys in the movie appeal to the Chinese market?

The girl at the end doesn't save the day. She does one thing, then is slapped down and has to be saved from certain death by the men. She didn't even kill a single alien.

Almost all of the main characters had their moment, and 9 out of 10 were men. Even the beta journalist guy killed more aliens than her and the other chick combined.

Also, the woman president was completely incompetent and didn't even make any decisions. It was all the men coming up with plans and then her saying "okay" at the end. And notice that her being taken out of the picture was the entire turning point in the movie for them to actually fight back.

The "gay" guy -- maybe stuff was cut out for the international release, like you mentioned, because I had no idea he was gay in the international version. Even the scene with his "partner" was pretty ambiguous. It was more like, "Is he gay? Or do they just have a really close, nerdy friendship?"

And bro, Jeff Goldblum is 64. He looks incredible for his age. His love interest is 20 years younger than he is.

[Image: Charlotte-Gainsbourg-inaugure-la-plaque-...x768_p.jpg]

Bill Pullman looked bad ass with that beard too. He's only 1 year younger than Goldblum.

I saw the movie earlier because some chick wanted to go to the movies and it was the only thing I was remotely interested in. I went in with very low expectations but ended up really enjoying it.

The thing that held it back was not having any real stand out characters, like a Will Smith or younger Bill Pullman/Jeff Goldblum. I agree that the actor playing Will Smith's son was awful. The movie was more like a bunch of supporting characters with no real star.

If anyone's wondering what I mean, there's a scene in this one similar to the first, where he's talking on the radio to people around the world.

But in this version, the only group it shows is a family of Arabs living in a tent.

Then he goes on to say something like (paraphrasing), "It doesn't matter what nationality or color you are, we hope you'll pray with us right now. We're all one people".

Then at the end, after they defeat the aliens, there's a shot of the Eiffel Tower in the distance. To the left, almost out of frame, you see the Arabs celebrating from their tent outside of Paris.

Like I said, I thought that seen was pretty cringeworthy, but it seems like I'm the first one who noticed it.

No thanks. I think I'll pass.

I know nothing about the cast or plot here, but I'd bet good money that the character who ultimately saves the day a la Randy Quaid's in "ID4" will likewise be female.

It's the spirit of the times. A female president character, an all-girl reboot of "Ghostbusters", this bizarre obsession with "strong female leads" in every movie. It's unavoidable.

Most people are sheeps.

They'll associate the good emotions from Independence Day with

an unconscious "and now, we must get a female to lead us in real life too"

because that's how psychology of the masses works...

I watched it last night.

The 99.9% Chinese audience reacted with laughter, rather than pride, every time a common Chinese consumer product was shown on the moon station.

Angelababy is a massive star here in China who can't act (but Chinese actors can never act). Still she represents star power, which is why they stuck her in the film. The Chinese film market is huge.
