Independence Day: Resurgence

I'll see it just because I liked it as a kid.

I wonder what ridiculous way we will kill them this time.

With a highly competent Mary Sue and a bunch of sycophantic male side kicks... like everyone other movie.

I hope not.
At least it's not a reboot.

I'm going to watch it. Basically I'm a slave to nostalgia.
I really hope it's not bad, I'm sick of seeing all the cool fun shit from my childhood getting fucked over (Ninja Turtles, Robocop, Terminator, Total Recall, Ghostbusters, etc etc etc etc).

Did anyone watch the new Point Break? It's garbage. I bought it on a plane and made it 15 min. Turned it off and stared at a blank screen for the next three hours.

Is Jeff Goldblum a recovered beta? It seems he turned red pill (a bit).
This is purely based on his (former) wives and girlfriends, If I'm correct he was married to some older woman, then Geena Davis, and in the past years started seeing more feminine younger women (30 years younger).

I did, and I was rooting for the humans to win the whole time and for someone to discover a tri-pod. I hate shaky cam movies.

Felt the same way about Avatar too. Should have nuked 'em from low earth orbit.

The original movie is by far my favourite bad movie, one of those gems that is so horrible that it becomes great and fun, I don't expect much from the sequel but I will give it a chance in the theater.

The moment I knew I had to give it a chance was hearing these lines in the trailer:
"It landed over the Atlantic"
"What part of it?"
"All of it!"

I mean, come on, how can you pass on that?

I actually rather like the original. It might be a bit cheesy, but it was also about the last unashamedly patriotic American film ever made.

Agreed, i've lost track of how many times I watched it. I had it on VHS and then DVD. Heck, I even watched the "Behind the Scenes" documentary that came with the DVD. As a child, I was fascinated with the special effects of ID. I remember them showing production stills of the scale model they blew up of New York City.

The 90s was such a magical time for special effects. Computers were too weak to do full CGI so you had to rely on older established tricks of the trade and sprinkle it with some CGI.

I'd argue the special effects of the 90s was better and more believable looking than the stuff we have today.

If I ever bothered to write down all of my favorite movies it would essentially be every blockbuster movie of the decade. The 90s was the pinnacle of cinema in my not so humble opinion.

The lack of Will Smith in the sequel has me skeptical. It's a shame he couldn't swallow his pride and take less money and not have his weird kid have a role in it.

Up to a point, but there were a lot of movies that went overboard with the cgi in the 90's as well, badly. If I remember correctly, the mummy part 2 was late 90's, and is known for it's horrible cgi.

I watched the 'how it was made' for independence day as well, but I never had the dvd of it, so I'm not sure where I watched that.

Hehehe, both the Mummy part 1 and 2 are up there with Independence Day for me. I've watched that one many many times. I love Brendon Fraiser's performance in both. The 3rd Mummy movie didn't do it for me. If you have a chance to go to Universal Studios in Orlando, they have a theme ride dedicated to the Mummy. I rode that ride probably five times.

ID is still one of the movies i watch every few years. It just makes you feel good.

But those trailers are comically orange and teal. I advise not to click the link. After reading this article you will be forced to spot this pattern everywhere. Commercials, video games, movie trailers. And you cannot stop noticing it every single time. Everyone you tell about it will experience the same. You have been warned.

Well why the fuck did you post the link? Damnit now I need to wear shooting glasses everywhere like Steven Seagull.

It can't be worse than 'The Martian' where all the female [Nasa Equivalent] superiors are females. The moment I see a female Military General or some saviour female pilot [Aliens I can believe], the illusion of reality is gone.

Which is both true and ironic, given how audiences cheered at the White House blowing up.

Whatever its flaws, it's a good bit of writing that can pull off both that scene (and its response), and coming across as a joyously patriotic flick.

Apparently The Mummy is being remade with Tom Cruise, to be released next year. Female mummy too!
