Is this website useful for anything? I thought it would provide some objective evaluation of photos. This might be a useful reality check, or it might help select photos for an online profile.

But when I browsed and rated photos, normal (average) pictures received average ratings of 9! I think there is some feature where you can rate people and contact them for dates. This totally screws the evaluations, because obviously you need to rate somebody highly if you want to contact them for a date.

So how do you get a realistic rating, and what do you do with this information?

I'm strongly suspicious of the algorithm hotornot uses. I believe they are tinkering with the rating somehow to accommodate their business model. I think okcupid has a far better algorithm in their MyBestFace feature where you are matched against someone at similar age. Okcupid has proven through their blog that they are very intellectually honest and adept at statistical analysis.

I put a picture up on HotorNot about a year ago and, after something like 50 ratings, got an 8.9.

I was a little suspicious, even though I'd been told I was good looking quite frequently before. I figured I was more of a 7.5/8. Either way, I don't take the rating too seriously.

It was a nice little confidence boost for a while, though.

Like with many things, people vote one of two ways much of the time.. 0 or 10. That tends to skew things.

That aside, hotornot is terrible for online dating. Most girls are only on there for validation... the site predates facebook.

Hotornot is a ridiculous website where thirsty-ass sausages hornily rate every girl a 9 or 10. It's a disgusting ego boost for average girls, skanks, and attention-whores.

It's also skin-to-win, to be sure--for both genders.

Years ago, a co-worker and I decided to have a contest (on company time, of course) to see who could do better in the ratings. In the first round he beat me. I made the mistake of putting up a head shot against his full-body shot, before I knew the name of the game. I got wise to the angles, and did a full-body shot on the next round, trouncing him by a solid whole-number. After that, we showed more muscle and style in successive rounds, and kept climbing till we got deep into the 9s, with hundreds of votes. It was brinkmanship at its finest. Eventually the IT department in our office blocked the site. LOL.

Back then, the messaging feature was free, so, naturally, I got seduced into hollering at some bitches. On one occasion, I "met" a chubby and horny Puerto Rican girl in the military that kept begging me to go visit her at her base on the other side of the state. I was a little suspicious, but confirmed that she was the real thing when I got her to send me provocative pictures of her ass and tits (R-rated at best) in parts of her uniform. I was tempted to head out, but figured it wasn't worth it since: (1) she was chub; and (2) she was far away. She was definitely DTF, though. All I had to do was basically show up and put my dick in her. But, when I did the numbers, it was going to cost me more than it was worth. I used it ages ago, and felt moderately ego boosted that I was above a 9. But yeah, I don't think there's much use for it beyond that. However, okcupid's "my best face" is definitely worth using, as it'll tell you which of your pictures got the best response. Then, you can super-charge your okcupid profile accordingly (or whatever else you have pics on).
