Who cuts your hair

Do you guys go to places like Supercuts, a place with cute chicks(potentially) like Sportsclips [Image: SportsClips.jpg] an expensive salon, or a local barber shop?

man or woman?

I hate getting haircuts, most of the time a chubster cuts my hair.

I've gone to a Floyd's 99 franchise, where at least in this case some improbably attractive young women washed my hair while a hot towel lay on my face, cut my hair, and gave me a massage.

It was pleasant enough, but there's a certain panache about an old-fashioned barbershop that I just prefer in some ways. But then, I periodically shave with a straight razor and use a brush and double-edged old safety razor when I don't, so maybe it's just an old guy thing.

SportsClips is legit. It's cheap and there's usually a few cuties working.

I cut (buzz) my own hair every week or two. Free, easy, low maintenance. I'll never pay for another hair cut again.

Like GMAC, I shave my own head every couple of weeks. If I want to rock a little mohawk for a couple of days, I let it grow for 3 weeks, then I have my girlfriend shave it into a mohawk for me.

I've got the dick so I make the rules.

I don't trust many people with cutting my hair so when I find a good one I stay with her until I move to a different city. Usually its someone with a salon in their house. It's just so easy for someone at the franchise salons to screw up your hair and not give a shit because they see 50+ people a week. I think its important to build up a rapport. My hairdresser knows my name, whats going on in my life, what I like, and I have no problem rewarding her with a good tip and a coffee in the morning because I know she's going to make me look good.

Lol hair dressers, salons and female barbers? When I get a fade, I hit up an old school barber shop right up the street. I don't think a guy should go to a salon or any place like that for a haircut.

Gmac and chad - what kind of clippers do y'all use? Did y'all research or just buy some?

I live in Canada. No one that cuts hair here ever gets called a barber, and no ones called them barber shops since pre WW2... Hahaha I wouldn't want a guy touching my hair anyway.

Appreciate it chad.

Khaleth - do you get your nails done while you're letting a girl chop your bangs? Just kidding.

Really? What are you homophobic or something? I don't see the big deal. Men know men's hair. Although I love it when women touch mine, I only really trust men to cut my hair right.

My best haircuts have always come from women... usually I shop around for a woman to cut my hair right, but I give very specific instructions

Every guy does! Haha I don't have a problem with it at all, I would just rather have a woman. I have dreadlocks so each time I go for maintenance its 2 hours in the chair. It's just more comforting to have a woman's hands on me if its that long. Don't get me wrong I'm sure lots of guys out there know hair but I usually stick to women for my fashion/hair/hygiene needs.

I've been going to the same barber for about 18 years. Going to places like Bestclips, Supercuts, Greatclips, etc. will fuck up your head. I don't want some 20 yr old fresh out of beauty college getting practice on my locks. Love when the barber finishes up with the hot towel on the back of the neck and the straight razor.

I haven't gone to get a haircut in over a decade now. Mind you I grew it out like a crazy hippie for 2-3 years, then I got drunk and let a friend cut it... after that it was pretty much time to just bring out the clippers and do it myself. I never turned back, why would you? I can keep my hair looking decent with them, and when I want to, just shave it all off and start over.

I can see no reason why anyone would do anything differently, although this Lady Jane's place intrigues me, as I'm not entirely convinced it isn't actually a brothel.

The worst haircut I've ever had was at one of those "hot girls cut guy's hair" places. The concept works for waitresses serving you drinks, not so much with bimbo's ramming clippers into your head.

Personally, having dapper hair gives me a confidence boost and I will pay well for someone who knows how to cut men's hair. I used to think I had shitty hair until I found someone that knew how to cut it. 95% of all stylists relegate men's hair cuts to clip and buzz afterthought jobs. For most hair types, someone with skill shouldn't be using much other than scissors.

Does anyone have any tips for finding a good stylist? I usually go to barbers, who do a good enough job, but I've never really styled my hair much. Most of the styles I've seen look retarded, and I'd like something that compliments my facial shape and personal style. Barbers can cut well, but they have nothing to offer in the way of advice. I've gone through lookbooks of hairstyles and never saw anything promising.

Ask the women in your life where they get their hair done. Whenever I am in my hometown I get my hair cut with the stylist that my mom and sister go to. She's cute and does a great job.

Even though it costs a little more than a sportsclips type place, it's a lot more personable and she will actually know how you want it.

From my experience women are way better at cutting hair than men. Call me sexist but guys should have something better to do than cut hair all day.

Something better to do than cut hair all day....sssssshiiiiittttt. My barber moved out of his original shop and added on to the rear of his house. 12$ for a haircut plus i give him a nice tip. He schedules haircuts on 15 minute slots = 4 haircuts an hour = 48 an hour plus tip (in cash so you know he isnt claiming all of it). Granted, he may not stay busy the entire day but there is hardly ever a time I walk into his shop that I won't be waiting for him to finish a cut or have someone waiting on my cut to finish.

Hoops, not trying to hate on your barber. He's probably a cool guy. I think my perception of guys cutting hair is probably skewed from seeing all the raging homos on TV giving ugly girls makeovers.

I think I'm too young to have experienced the barber shop age. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a legit barber shop with the spinning candy cane light in front.

Hardest part is doing your neck line in the back and making sure you dont miss any patches. If you're doing even all over its pretty easy to feel for the all around length, the neckline can be tricky but easy once you get the hang of it.
