Avoid being tracked via gps tracker?

My lil bro downloaded this app on his iPhone that allows him to pin point in realtime anyone's location by simply typing in their cell number. I can't find anything on Google about how to avoid this. does anyone here have any idea? It's quite the invasion of privacy not to mention it has the potential to fuck you over if you tell a girl you are doing one thing but she types your number in and finds you at an undisclosed household

My suspicion is you're talking about this:

http://www.articlesbase.com/videos/5min/63260962

To track someone, you'd have to get them to download that app and run it when you want to track them, so it'd be pretty obvious when someone's tracking you because you have to actively allow them.

Even if this isn't the app you're talking about, it's EXTREMELY unlikely that an app like the one you're describing would be available. Ask to test out the app on his phone before you get too nervous.

To be clear, there is no such app which would point out anyone's location.

What is possible, however, is the following:

- You had that "monitoring" app on your phone. Do you have Google Latitude app? Is it enabled/activated?

- Someone might have installed the monitoring app on your phone (if you gave him your phone, it would be quite easy);

- You installed one or more games from the Market/AppStore which collect and transmit your location information to several ad networks;

If you're using a GSM phone, then get another phone (preferably not a smartphone), switch the SIM card and see if he can still track you. I bet he would not.

I know on my smartphone it lists a "turn realtime GPS location on/off" feature.

Kickboxer you need to provide more info on this,

- the name of the app
- how it works
- maybe a picture of it in action

This is very interesting.

Whenever I'm off going to do something shady (and this ranges from lightly shady like banging a girl with a boyfriend to moderate-to-heavy shady like helping to set up a deal or doing some damage to someone's property as payback) I leave the phone at home, any calls that go out go via pay phone.

You will find no one less shocked than me that the cell phones we depend on are now being used to keep tabs on our movements. I only have mine on me when I'm home chillin' or out going about my business.

the only way to avoid your phone from being tracked is to remove the sim card. In some situations just turning off the phone doesn't do it. It can still be tracked in some times.

You need to install it on the phone you want to track. Then it is no different from Google Latitude.
