It's better to eat healthier and exercise more. If you eat less, your body won't have enough calories to burn. Which creates a deficit. Like government: if they don't have enough money, they spend credit. You know that isn't good right?

Agreed with the other two. You need to focus what you're eating: fruits, veggies, whole grains, poultry, fish, tuna and really anything else high in protein.

Then your exercise routine and diet needs to be based on your goals. If you want to bulk up, and add more muscle, you'll want to eat more carbs and workout for shorter periods of time with as heavy a weight as possible. If you're going for a slender/cut look, you'll need to train more rigorously, but with smaller weights for more extended periods of time.

Make sense?

Strictly speaking yes, weight loss or weight gain comes down to calories in vs. calories out. All else being equal, a diet of 1500 calories of twinkies per day will produce the same weight loss as a diet of 1500 calories of fruits and veggies.

The catch, of course, is that you're going to have a much harder time sticking to the 1500-calorie twinkie diet because they will make you feel less full than the equivalent number of calories in healthier foods. The composition of the weight you lose may vary as well, since the amount of protein in your diet combined with your exercise regimen will affect your body's ability to build and retain muscle mass.

I lost a lot of weight by exploiting the fact that a good number of fruits and veggies burn more calories to totally digest then they actually contain. Apples fall into this category and are a great sweet filler to hold you over.

Since my STBX left, I've eaten a lot healthier and been more physically active (lots of working out plus about 8 hrs of dance class/week; hey, you could have a worse hobby). Lost about 30 lbs in 6 months (down to 163, li'l low actually) and looking better than ever.

So yeah--eat healthier, not less, and exercise more. Makes a huge difference in appearance, health, and mental self-image.
