Opportunity to transfer to a more prestigious law school

I didnt meet the entry tariffs of the universities I wanted to go to, last year, so I went to the best school my results could get me into with a plan to transfer in 2016.

The schools I wrote to wrote me back saying that I can transfer provided my grades are good enough in my first year of UNI and I have teachers to write good references for me.

No problem.

The problem is, I have to write a personal statement and Im not sure how to write it in a way that doesnt make me look like I'm supplicating/ begging them to let me transfer to their school.

Thoughts?

You want to transfer to a good law school. I'd focus on the academic history of the law department, particularly current members, several of whom are world famous academics within their discipline - one of which taught me.

You are not begging, you are asking.
It is ok to recognize "greatness" and to be "near" it.

"I love a fulfilling and sexual relationship. That is why I make the effort to have many of those" - TheMaleBrain
"Now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb." - Spaceballs
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine" - Obi-Wan Kenobi

Don't think of it as begging.

You are applying (not begging) to be part of an elite group of people because you think you deserve to be part of that group. Your grades, your extracurriculars, your LSATs, and your career goals suggest that (at least you think they do).

Don't come across as "you would be lucky if I attended your school" because they will just laugh. But it is fine to give the "This school really gives me what I am looking for and here are the ways I can contribute while I am there" vibe.

The relationship between you and the law school that you ultimately go to should be one of mutual benefit. This benefit is not only while you are a student but also as an alumni. As you move further into your career, you will (hopefully) give more back to the school. That's the way they see it.

If you need me to look over your personal statement, PM me. I didn't go to law school but I wrote a number of recommendations for people that went to the Top 10.

And WIA is, as usual, right on the money: T14 is the way to go.

Good luck.

OP and H1N1 are both UK based gents so the T14 advice doesn't really apply.

However, given the glut of glorified paper pushers out there it makes sense to get the most bang for your buck.
