Diet Gurus: Simple Balanced Diet for Lean Gains?

The calories might be a bit low so if you don't get anywhere for a week or two, just bump them up a bit (200-300 calories) and go from there.

Overall the diet looks solid.

Thanks man. Yeah like I said this is sort of a starting point that my trainer suggested as currently he is trying to work more on form with me and getting my stabilizers conditioned for lifting properly so I perform well with heavier weight.

Yeah, you should be fine.

In one of Paul Carter's old articles (from Lift Run Bang), he broke it down like this.

Bodyweight (lbs) x 15 = maintenance calories

1 gram/lb protein (minimum)
20% calories from fat
The rest carbs

Do that for a week or two, then add a measly 200 calories in the form of carbs until you're getting a half a pound to a pound a week.

It's just a guideline, the higher protein content you're on will likely lead to more muscle gains and less fat gain in the long term. There are diminishing returns with everything, of course, but you should be set.

“I have a very simple rule when it comes to management: hire the best people from your competitors, pay them more than they were earning, and give them bonuses and incentives based on their performance. That’s how you build a first-class operation.”
― Donald J. Trump

Its finding that ultimate balance of diet, training, and rest. the theory being if I bust my ass training hard all week then the protein shouldn't go to waste.
