Dude spent 75 large in three days at a whorehouse, that's just one reason to not really have any sympathy for his situation.

^^^ keep in mind he was getting the room suite for free because he's friends with Dennis Hof. So $75,000 for hookers and liquor in 3 fucking days. and that was his tab with the brothel, not factoring in what he paid for his own drugs.

As a lifelong Lakers fan. I'm very saddened by this news. Personally I think it all went downhill when Chris Paul trade was ridiculously vetoed. Lamar is a guy who basically had no family and up until that point he had bounced around the league with a few different teams mostly due to inconsistent play and multiple drug suspensions (marijuana). When Lamar arrived with the Lakers as part of the Shaq trade with the Heat right before the 2004-05 NBA season, the Lakers were in total rebuilding mode. In those first 4-5 years times were tough here in LA with a few first round exits and not even making the playoffs one year. Finally after the Gasol trade and a few strategic moves, the Lakers became championship contenders and then finally champions. The thing is that Lamar went through all of that and felt like the Lakers were his "family" and so when they decided to trade him for Chris Paul he felt unwanted and abandoned. With Lamar depressed and feeling betrayed by his "family" and lost his desire to play and the Lakers reluctantly gave him away to the Dallas Mavericks. Now we all know that professional athletes are supposed to be mercenaries and not care about who or what they play for as long as they get payed but in Lamar's case since he basically grew up with no family the Lakers were part of his family. Once he felt betrayed by his professional family and then the whole Kardashian thing I think it became too much for him to deal with. The thing most people don't know about Lamar is that he is genuinely a nice guy who wears his heart on his sleeve who was really loved by his teammates. He may not be the brightest crayon in the box but what makes me feel sad is that from the looks of it and the way former teammates talked about him is that he was a all around good guy.

Apparently Lamar was on up to 10 different kinds of that gas station viagra as well! Goddamn, anyone who's ever taken even a small dose of that shit knows not to fuck around with it. Chinese magic dick powder + cocaine is not going to give you a fun weekend with the hookers, no wonder his heart exploded.

I agree PrimeTime32, he wasn't the same after finding out that he was in that trade.

It's a sad story when you know the details, it really is.

However, that doesn't negate the fact that this is a grown ass man we are talking about. If he were not rich, a celebrity ballplayer, and married into a famous attention whoring family noone would care of course.

Plenty of people grow up in messed up family environments. I personally know of many people with sadder life stories and who have gone on to do well despite the world taking a shit on them.

This is why I don't have sympathy for guys like Odom. He still had a pretty solid deck dealt to him in life and he was just simply too weak to overcome mental angst. He just squandered all his good fortune at the end of the day. A person has to take responsibility for their actions.

Kind of off topic but a guy from my hometown posted a pic of a lighter burning bellow a spoon and it said "Candle light vigil for Lamar" on Facebook. It can certainly be seen as in poor taste but thats not the story here. About two years ago this guy lost his best friend to a heroine overdose.... and just 5 Days ago posted a big "I miss you brother blah blah blah" on Facebook about him... I came super close to calling him out but not in a hateful way. Then I decided to just let it go....

I feel that almost every last level of sympathy should be extended to guys like Lamar who had a bad childhood and did not receive enough (or any) love and warmth from their parents. There is nothing in life -- nothing -- that is tougher to come back from than being an unhappy and unloved child.

A man who has been given that love and warmth as a child will often feel invincible throughout his life, no matter how much adversity he might suffer later on. It is as if he has a warm halo enveloping him and following him wherever he walks; nothing can ever touch him. But a man who has been deprived of love and attention as a child can wear a thousand furs and still feel cold and naked; he is suspicious of any success he has earned, and he distrusts any affection shown him by others, no matter how genuine it might be. He will test and test that affection, and he is always ready to believe the worst because he did not receive love when he was in greatest need of it.

Money is a supreme good and it can bring happiness -- but only to those that know how to be happy. Men who have had these bad unloved childhoods don't know how, and for them money often just gives them more ways to ruin their life. Some of these types cannot burn through their money fast enough.

It is true that there are many men who overcame a bad and unloved childhood and went on to have good and successful lives -- and those guys deserve a great deal of admiration and respect, probably far more than they receive. Conversely, we should not judge too harshly men who are unable to overcome these odds. Whether they flame out like Lamar, or end up stunted and miserable in less spectacular ways, we should extend them all the sympathy we can muster; and for those of us who (like myself) have had the great good luck of having been raised by warm and loving parents, we should thank our lucky stars, and be grateful to our folks who, despite whatever shortcomings they may have, have done right by us in the way that matters most.

If you don't think the greatest thing Khloe would wish to happen, is he die from depression / drug OD under her manipulative scamming of his money, you're fooling yourself.

The feeling of greatness she'd narcissistically be overcome with, if he died, would literally be her greatest life's accomplishment. I was engaged to a bitch with all the $$ of the Kardasian's, and then some, but not all the fame.

My family lawyer, after our last battle in court said it best:"I've seen this scenario before, and I think she just wishes you were dead."

Lizard thats pretty much what I had written (maybe not quite so eloquently) but then deleted and posted sweaty Kardashian pics instead.

As kids we develop emotional traits that can pretty much shape who we are as people. Some can overcome the adverse effects of growing up unloved and in harsh conditions, some can't.

While I might not shed any tears for Lamar, I certainly will not mock or ridicule him either.

Thank you for this.

I think the reason it is so easy for us to lose sympathy for people is because of all the current movements and people who are only using trauma and bad childhoods as a strategy.

In addition, there are now million dollar industries of all kinds, mostly offshoots of feminism, designed to make people feel like nothing is ever their fault, and that specious trauma that they just conjured up is the only reason why things go wrong in their lives.

So by being constantly conned by people who didn't really have a bad childhood, or any other trauma, it desensitizes us to genuine sympathy for someone who deserves it, and I appreciate getting this reminder.

“The greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents.”

Apparently he woke up:

"Lamar Odom has regained consciousness, speaking and even offering a thumbs-up from his hospital bed, just days after being found in extremely critical condition at a Nevada brothel."

I bet the Kardashians are pissed they won't be getting a payday this weekend.

I don't think so. Any Florida resident could do that twice a day.

I'm happy he's ok and get on a path to learning.

I said that for him. My real opinion will stay in my head.
