I doubt this will ever get off the ground but should it, the only way to protect yourself is by having multiple phones.

Edit, oh I see, if you don't register, only the positive reviews are shown that people make of you. That is a huge deterrent to making an account. I'll just never make an account, and then not have to worry about potential negative reviews.

Not necessarily. It would be easy to bypass this. Rate someone five stars or whatever a good rating is and then leave a negative comment (which will not be removed).

Their Twitter has been getting flamed all day: https://twitter.com/search?q=peepleforpe...wgr^search

The women running the thing are to no one's shock, huge hypocrites. They have tried to get a parody version of their Twitter taken down and have now set their account to private.

Even the SJWs are getting in on the beat down. No one wants it.

Interestingly though, they got government investment to help create the app, and hilariously said they are "under confidentiality agreements" not to disclose which branch gave it to them. [Image: tinfoilhat.gif]

Looks like this app is dying in the crib.

That app would never be allowed to operate in the UK under any form. The only people who can troll people are those with vast amounts of cash reserves for the regular lawsuits they come across; the newspapers.

If Tinder started the collapse of modern society, this will finish the job. While I felt Lulu was kind of a fringe app, this has much more mainstream appeal.

An SJW/NPR contributor friend of mine posted 'This app seems straight out of Black Mirror. It's a venue for hate, slut-shaming and bullying created by the "popular" people.'

With RVF and NPR equally hating on this app, is it dead in the water or the tip of the rocket? Could go either way.

Definitely look into Google Voice - same phone, multiple numbers. Each gmail account can have a free US phone number, rotate through them.

The company, which is valued at $7.6 million

This company hasn't even done anything yet and it's already valued at $7.6 mio? I need to start getting into the IP business. Easy money.

I don't see how this doesn't violate defamation laws through libel. This is essentially a database where you can document potentially negative opinions on people that anyone could look up that could damage one's reputation and easily cause social and professional damage.

2/10 WNB

It's not illegal to share true information about someone, even if could be harmful to their reputation.

The company can plead ignorance if anyone uses their application to tell lies about other people. They'll be able to argue that doing so was never the intended use of their product.

But is is illegal to claim/publish false defamatory information which I predict many would do, and in the eyes of the United States Supreme Court, it is also illegal to claim/publish defamatory opinions as they cannot be proven true - the US Supreme Court does not recognize Opinion Privilege in cases of Defamation of Character.

EDIT: But you are correct in that the company itself may not be held liable for content that it's user-base creates.

Although they would have to fight a legal battle, they ought to be protected under the following law: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_23...ecency_Act

Not surprised that a government branch has a hard on for something like this.

It's another way to track socially active people in every city including the daily dirt on them. They can then violate your privacy at any time under the guise of it being a public "fun" app without actually going to the trouble of wiretaps or whatever. It's a form of passive monitoring on an entire population.

There's another country that did stuff like this too..

These women have put themselves in the cross hairs the first time a hard working yet imperfect man gets frivorce raped and loses their job and family over a malicious review... we had a case in Boston where an attorney represented an Asian woman in a particularly harsh frivorce rape and the Asian man decided to get even with a laser sighted 44 Magnum he bought with what was left of his nest egg after the Lawyer and ex wife cleaned him out... he had the laser sighted in and spent a week learning to point and shoot accurately at the local indoor range. Kept his kool and the lawyer and ex never knew what hit them.

There are a lot of lethal people in the USA and creating a public site rating people negatively can have severe consequences...

Snopes is suspicious it may be a hoax for viral attention:

Peeple

Quote:Quote:

It seemed one thing about Peeple was clear: the premise of the purported app itself was so frightening that few who learned about it stopped to check McCullogh and Cordray’s receipts. The diversion created by dumping news of a new, privacy-invading social media function sufficiently diffused any checking into whether Peeple was likely to get off the ground anytime soon. As it stands, the concept of Peeple was virtually non-existent until August 2015, and its founders didn’t appear to take into account that another app of the same name existed previously.

Any and all “work” on the app was primarily documented via YouTube video before September 2015, and most attempts to discern whether or how the app worked were met with vague answers about “beta testing” in November 2015. No details were released about the app’s technical specs, and again, its invasive nature sparked so much debate that the story reached viral mass almost instantly with no corroborating information provided. Which is not to say Peeple isn’t going to hit the app store in November, but it hasn’t been in production very long (if it’s not a hoax), and its founders appear to have cobbled together a PR campaign in a matter of weeks with no detail backing it up.

The girl I'm banging threw this "I've already seen this episode" up on Facebook this morning, with this pic. Apparently, a similar app happens in an episode of Community.

Yes or lead to even more mass shootings.

HA! She's right! It was easily one of the best episodes that season.
