Aggressive popups on Return Of Kings

Sounds like ATT is hijacking ad content to serve up their own stuff.

Yeah I was automatically redirected to a page with a topless blonde girl when I was using my phone. Not that I'd normally mind, but I was worried something could infect my phone. And I was at work.

Could you infect my phone with that virus?

The photos never work and the formatting is all over the place when I try to read the articles via RVF.

Same here. A shame, as I'm sure there would be more discussion on the forum regarding ROK articles if it were fixed.

Everytime I loaded up an article to view on ROK, it was just a matter of time (but always <15 seconds) until my phone started buzzing and was put on a page with some kind of scam advertising for bullshit.

It has made ROK effectively unreadable for me on my phone until it's fixed.

We've had this problem before. It's usually the result of a poisoned upstream router, since ROK doesn't serve those types of ads (we have one pop-up that is closeable). When you visit ROK, the malware triggers to make it seem like it's coming from ROK. This almost always affects iPhones.

To narrow down the problem, access the site on a different router and then a different network. Does the popup still happen? Then it will be worth doing a malware scan, though usually the problem is network based. If you tried different networks and a scan comes clean, but the aggressive popups still happen, email [email protected] with details of your device and operating system.

The scammers who run this malware get shut down often and then they open up a new method, so the problems comes and goes in spurts.

This page states that it's an adware problem on the local device. But I have confirmed reports from other readers that it's usually a network issue (infected router). It flares up every now and then:

Quote:Quote:

The J4yip.redirectvoluum.com pop-up ads are caused by an adware program, which is distributed through various monetization platforms during installation. This adware program is typically added when you install another free software (video recording, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this adware program.
When this malicious program is installed, whenever you will browse the Internet, an ad from J4yip.redirectvoluum.com will randomly pop-up. These ads are aimed to promote the installation of additional questionable content including web browser toolbars, optimization utilities and other products, all so the J4yip.redirectvoluum.com publisher can generate pay-per-click revenue.

For those of you who had the problem earlier, can you try again on the same network to see if it's still happening? I think it may be resolved.

Yes, it appears to be resolved. What did you do?

Since I'm using iOS when I see this, I think it's highly unlikely I have some malware on an iOS device (not jailbroken). It seemed to be something in a router as you said.

Still seeing the problem on the "Ten Things Every Male Teenager Should Know" page on ROK via Rogers Wireless network here in Toronto Canada.

Here is a rundown of the popup problem(PopupGate ??? [Image: smile.gif] ) here on the Rogers Wireless network(Canada). TL;DR site works fine via wifi on Cogeco, Canadian terrestrial network, but when I connect to an article on ROK via Rogers Wireless, I get the popup.

Only on mobile. I hit back button and got 'Wait! are you SURE you want to leave this page?' which I couldn't get away from.

I haven't had any problems with popups, but I do have a slight grievance towards the "Paid Content".

How is this relevant to RoK's audience? Who would be interested in this cookie-cutter clickbait content?

I understand running a website costs money, but why not advertise something your audience will actually find interesting?

I'm not trying to "hate" or anything, I'm just trying to understand the rationale behind including this kind of stuff. I just don't see intelligent, red-pill heterosexual men finding this appealing.

Are you guys still experiencing the aggressive popups when you use iOS? It's clear this is somewhat pervasive so I want to nail down a solution.

I think switching over to https:// may solve it.

Were you experiencing the aggressive app redirect pop ups before that have now stopped? Or just ads in general have stopped?
